Deadline to enter contests is:

2008.
To enter the contests please follow these
instructions:
Do not enter the contest until you read ALL the rules on this page
and understand them. If you have questions, email me, I will
respond. This is a FREE contest for all REGISTERED posters of the TalkBears Forums
and is suppose to be fun. I do not want anyone upset because they did
not understand the rules beforehand.
The Username you registered with on the
TalkBears Forum
The email address you want the contest to use to contact
you
Any password you want to use when you submit your
picksheet
Everyone entered plays the main Pick'ems
Pool
Do you want to be entered into the Survivor
Pool?
Do you want to be entered into the Margin
Pool?
If
you do not inform me of which pools you want to play, I will assume all
3.
PLEASE - Do Not
try and enter by submitting a picksheet. I will not see or accept
such an entry.
The picksheet currently on the site is there so that you can
see how it will look when the season begins and for you to experiment with if
you want to make sure your email settings are correct. None of the
picksheets submitted prior to the announced 1st picksheet has been set up will
be saved, all will be deleted. The lines (spreads) on the current sheet
are for example only and will be changed when I issue week one's
picksheet.
Pick'ems - General
Rules
Each
week a new picksheet will be posted for you to enter your selections.
This picksheet will be posted as soon as the bookies have set the
spreads for the games. Usually I can have this up on Tuesday nights. Sometimes, the bookies
drag their feet setting the lines do to injuries. I will create the
new picksheet as soon as possible.
All players will get an email alerting them to a new picksheet
ready to be used. Once I set the picksheet, it will not be
changed. If the bookies change their lines, so be it, the spreads used
to create the picksheet will be a consensus of the spreads available to me at
the time the picksheet is created. The actual lines at kickoff may be
different. Use this to your advantage!
The main Pick'ems contest is held AGAINST THE
SPREAD!
If Chicago is 3.5 point favorites to beat the Packers, and you
pick Chicago to win against the spread, they must beat the Packers by 4 points
or more for your selection to be correct.
If Chicago is 3.5 point favorites to beat the Packers, and you
pick the Packers to win against the spread, they must lose
to Chicago by 3 points or less or win the game as
underdogs for your selection to be correct.
Ties, which will be rare, would be a tie for everyone who made a
selection for that game. I usually set all spreads with a .5 to make it
impossible for a tie, makes it a lot simpler.
After selecting all games for the week be sure to fill in the
number of points you think will be scored by both teams in the MNF game.
If you think the score will be 36 to 21 then enter 57 as your MNF Total
Points. This is used as one of the tiebreakers for the
contests.
When you submit a picksheet you should receive a confirmation
email sent back to you. If you did not receive one then one
of three things happened:
Your picksheet did not submit
properly.
Your email address registered for the contest is not up to
date.
Your email program's spam folder intercepted your confirmation
email.
You can email me at j.w.sheridan@comcast.net(Pixote) and let me
know you did not get a confirmation. Do not use the contest email
address you see on your confirmation emails. That one is for picksheet
submissions only! Regular emails sent to that address causes some
serious problems for me when I am importing your selections. I will
respond to your inquiry as soon as possible (I work long hours) if sent to
the correct email address!
I
will import your selections into the pool as I receive them during the
week. However, you will not see your picks show up on the Pool website
until after the games begin. This is so that others playing will not see
your selections and use it to their advantage. After the deadline for
picks has passed, I will post everyone's selections as soon as I get a chance,
usually before the kickoff of the first game to be
played.
Pick'ems - Picksheet Deadlines
When you
submit your selections you must submit a COMPLETE PICKSHEET!
You can change your selections for games that have not
started up until 1 hour before the kickoff of the first
game played on Sunday of that week. However, every time you submit changes, again, you
must submit a COMPLETE PICKSHEET (including Survivor & Margin picks if you
are entered in those pools)!
When there is a Thursday Game
you need to submit a complete picksheet
before 1 hour of the 1st Thursday game kickoff . (Same rules for a
Saturday Game played). Later in the week, if you choose to do
so, you can submit a 2nd picksheet with changes for the remainder of the games
to be played. They will need to be submitted prior to 1 hour
before kickoff of the first game on Sunday.
After this deadline no more picksheet changes will be allowed.
If you miss
an early deadline for a Thursday game, you will still be able to submit
a COMPLETE picksheet in order to select the remaining games, obviously the game
already played will not register in the program I use for the contest once the
score for that game and results have been entered. Please do not wait
until the last minute and miss the deadline!
Season winners will be determined by the player with the highest
winning percentage. In order to qualify you will need to enter a minimum
of 14 of 17 weeks. This will help keep you in the contest in case
an emergency comes up, your PC goes up in smoke, etc...
On the
weekly picksheet, select one team that you think will win outright (NO
SPREAD) that week. There will be a dropdown box to select your team
for Survivor. You will find this directly below the regular pick'ems
section of the page.
You can
only select a team once throughout the entire regular season (each week select
a different team). There will be a button to click on to see what teams
you have already chosen in the previous weeks. This will
be directly below the dropdown box you used to select your Survivor team
for the week.
If you
select a team twice it will count as a loss for that week.
If you
don't make a selection for the survivor pool it will count as a
loss.
After
your FOURTH LOSS, you are out of the pool. Until you are
eliminated, don't give up! You will be surprised how fortunes change
quickly in this game. Hang in there!!
This
pool continues until there is only one player left, all remaining Survivors go
out in the same week, or until the end of the regular season.
If all
remaining Survivors go out of the pool in the same week, the "group" of
remaining Survivors that lost will be subject to a tiebreaker, the winner
being the player who had the most wins consecutively during the contest.
The 2nd tiebreaker would be the player selecting the most away teams during
the contest.
If
at the end of the regular season there is more than one player left, the
tie breaker will be the number of games lost within the survivor pool, (between 0
- 3). The player with the least number of losses wins. If a tie still exists
the contest winner will be determined with the tiebreakers mentioned in the
above paragraph.
The
true spirit of the Survivor pool is to "SURVIVE!"
On the weekly
picksheet, select one team that you think will win by the biggest "margin" of
points outright (NO SPREAD) that week. There will be a dropdown
box to select your team for the Margin
Pool. You will find this directly below the regular Survivor selection section of the
page.
There will be a button to click on to see what teams you have
already chosen in the previous weeks. This will be directly below
the dropdown box you used to select your Margin team for the
week.
If the team you select for the week wins, the winning
margin, or margin of victory is added to your season point total. If your
selected team for the week loses, then the winning margin is subtracted from
your season point total.
The pool member that has the most points at the end
of the season is the winner.
You can only select a team once throughout the entire
regular season (each week select a different team).
If you select a team twice, you will receive the
biggest LOSING margin for the week.
If you don't make a selection, you will receive the
biggest LOSING margin for the week.
If two or
more players have the same total points after week 17, then total wins will be
used as a tiebreaker. If they have the same total wins, the second tiebreaker will be the
player with the most consecutive weeks picking the winner (green squares).

losing margin)
