  1. Past hour
  2. from my observation over the decades it is usually the 2nd year that they struggle the most. the assignments by the offense are more complex because he has past the rookie stage. there is game film on them and it takes time for the player to adjust to new schemes against him. by year 3 the dust should be settling and if he is a good player it will show and grow from that point on. not that worried yet.
  3. Today
  4. didn't know that. in that case bring in a wide body lineman either side of the ball (like fridge) to smash into the line at the point of attack and get the push. that is just plain simple. if your OL with another lineman can't move the defense back one freaking yard we are pathetic.
  5. And to add to the X (Twitter) trending topic, how about Darnell Wright vs Jalen Carter. Wright has regressed and seems lost this year. He should be excelling and playing near probowl level. A high first round RT is a luxury when top 10 picks need to be difference makers.
  6. For comparison, it is good to see Williams hitting the whole field.
  7. He is comfortable throwing right, but he put it to the Bengals at their house.
  8. All this talk about firing Poles... Firing Flus... Get a new OC..., etc... We came into this season with a new OC, a new system, and a rookie QB. We all knew it would take time to gel. Do we want to learn from our past mistakes? A rookie QB forced to learn a new scheme in year 2? All of a sudden, we think Poles sucks? We sure felt differently before the season started. The only thing he has failed to do is solidify the OL, and we are 'possibly' in need of an edge rusher. Then again, how many holes can you fill in two years when you are given the garbage he was given to start with? He knows there is an issue. I have no doubt it will now be a top priority in his rebuild. Yes, many of us wanted it sooner. He did try to make moves in FA to patch things up. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. And as far as our OC, he is limited by our OL. As far as our OL coach, give him some quality players to work with. As far as Flus, our D is kick ass. Our locker room is tight. The players are 'all-in." And on a final note, Daniels sure looked good last night. New Rookie QB record, 21 for 23. No turnovers. Solid.
  9. Did anyone see Daniels passing chart? Does anyone see a trend?
  10. So on at least two of the runs, a good play fake and boot and half the end zone was wide open for any WR to just run to open space. There was zero threat to pass so the defense has the advantage, especially if you run laterally without any crack back blocks. Also, having Carter block anyone on a run play should be a fireable offense.
  11. Kingsbury has him playing smart, efficient football. I disagree that he looks like Stroud. If you watch Daniels play, he's still very much a 1 read/take off and run QB. The good news is that his 1st read is almost always open because most of his throws are not going beyond 15 yards of the LOS. They sprinkle in a few deep shots here and there, but WAS has done a good job of giving him a heavy dose of screens, quick hitches, and slants to get him into a rhythm. If the 1st option isn't there, he either dumps it off to a RB or he just takes off and runs for positive yardage nearly everytime. I'll be very curious to see how he adjusts when defenses begin to sit on the short stuff and do a better job of containing him in the pocket. Right now, it's working tremendously, but he's going to have to improve as a full field reader, like Stroud did, if he wants to sustain a long career in the NFL. I see a lot of RGIII in his game with a little weaker arm. He looks too skinny to withstand the punishment he's taking on some of those hits. I don't think his body holds up long term, but for right now, things appear to be clicking.
  12. I think we would be running the ball much better right now and have a strong defense. We are doing one of those.
  13. He deserves to take heat on several moves but no GM wins on every transaction. I look at the overall picture and it is in a plus. We had deep cap issues and one of the worst rosters in the league. In his third yr, he has us on the brink of a good team. This yr will be his good/bad GM season. If we have a winning season, right on schedule, if below that threasehold, he will deserve to be hammered. He siad 4-5 yrs to remake this team, year 3. I think we are in an early season over reaction. We are 1-2 and every game came down to the last series of every game. Be honest , who thought we were on schedule to blow out teams and be undefeated at this stage? No one but maybe me. With a rookie QB this will take more time to get up to speed. Basically groomming CW should be the biggest goal. Winning is the second goal, and thirdly develop the roster. At 1-2 none of those goals should be considered a failure just yet. I want to see what the record is at our bye week, not now.
  14. He did not practice last week, I think he has an injury issue.
  15. I think he was inactive for the game.
  16. riddle me this.... 1st and goal at the five or less, why are we NOT seeing our FB lead blocking for our best short yardage back? straight ahead hit the line and push forward. why in the H E double hockey sticks are we moving lateral runs in a condensed field? a few power runs and it opens up play action at the goal line. this is what fullbacks do and blasingame is a pretty good FB yet we never see him. that is BAD coaching and play calling.
  17. If the last game did anything for us, it showed that Johnson needs to be in the goalline offense.
  18. So here is the thing, how long does Poles or Eberflus got? Is Poles going to get another coaching hire? Look at it this way: I think 3rd Round picks are the best representation of a GMs skill to evaluate talent, because it is after the top 50 "no brainers" but before the drop off in talent at around 100. 3rd Round picks are #64-100 or so with comp picks. The Bears 3rd Round picks under Poles: Jones Jr, Pickens, Amegadjie That is absolutely gross and should be a fireable offense. Poles fleeced himself. Literally negative contributions to the team. It would've been better for him to just skip these picks than to use them and force these guys onto the 53-man. Amegadjie was injured and has been injured, so he may be good, but you don't use a 3rd Round pick on an injured player with a 4th-5th round grade. Honestly, the NFL grouping of owners, GMs, and for a big group of coaches feels like corporate America. It is one big self licking ice cream cone. VPs just jump between companies because companies require VP experience to become a VP with them. So the same group just changes hands year after year. They cut staff to make margins look good before they leave, then the bottom falls out and the new guy has nowhere to go but up. It feels like the cap in the NFL. One GM mortgages the future, it doesn't work, so he is fired and moves to a new org, then the new GM gets a fresh slate to have bad earnings for a few years while he cleans up the mess to eventually do the same thing. Rinse repeat. I was really excited about Poles, but when you take an honest look at the situation, he continually mismanages everything but one or two no-brainer moves that have made him look like the shrewd GM, when in reality, he just got lucky being in the right place at the right time thanks to Lovie. Please prove me wrong.
  19. Amazing what it looks like when you are only pressured 4 times. Funny enough that 2 of those plays ended up in sacks, yet Cincy decided that they would just rush 4 the rest of the game. Honestly, that makes Caleb's 363 yard game look even better. He was pressured at a ridiculous rate and still threw for more than 65 yards more than Daniels, which if you watched the game, it sounded like he threw for 1000 yards and 22 TDs. Watching the game he has 2 amazing throws to McLaurin. One difference was McLaurin caught the balls. I never doubted Daniels experience or skill, it was his frame and willingness to run. He will get hurt. He is like Johnny Knox at QB. It is just a matter of time in the NFL with that type of build.
  20. I dont think Flus would know hwat to do if he was OC. I really dont. And that is not Ok for a HC.
  21. I said something pretty close too. I have to admit Ive liked a lot of what our front office has done. But theyve made some big mistakes too. I think I give Poles next years offseason to sort out the OL, and I wouldny mind if it was a whole new offensive set of coaches and head coach. I would keep the defensive coaches, with the blessing of the new HC of course. If he has something else in mind, he IS the HC, and we dont need to Bear him with an arranged marriage
  22. Jayden Daniel's looked like Stroud tonight. Night and day difference how a QB can look without seeing pressure nonstop. Flus might need to hand the d coordinator job to Washington so he can get a handle on the offense.
  23. I said at the time that I thought he should have been fired the moment he decided to keep Matt Eberflus. Every sane person knew the most logical decision in the moment to make was to reset this coaching staff under a new rookie QB and keep everybody on the same timeline, and yet, here we are repeating history. If that wasn't bad enough, they also missed out on Jim Harbaugh, who was the homerun, can't miss coaching candidate of the last decade, and other bright offensive minds in Bobby Slowik or Ben Johnson. It was the absolute worst possible decision the Bears could have made in that situation, and one they may end up regretting forever depending on what ends up happening with Caleb.
  24. Yeah, Im overreacting, thats why I called it a hot take. It seemed funny to me. But if we could trade Swift for a good OL Id do it in a heartbeat. Call me a Roschon Johnson fan. Ive liked him since training camp last year. I thought he'd be the starter for sure. But yes, if our OL opened holes for Swift, Im sure id like him better. Once he gets to the second level Swift is pretty dangerous, but until we open holes, Johnson is the better pounder at the first level, and if you can bull/fall forward for 4 yards a carry, thats all we really need.
  25. Lets see how he does after the offense gets rolling, everything is out of sync now. I guess Bates coming back might be the answer at OC, it cant be worse.
  26. Swift's running style is based on speed. He needs holes to get through, but he has quick change of direction. So here's a hot take: Velus Jones Jr gives you (only) that at RB too. They are both possible home run hitters, and neither is a grinder or a guy to in tough yards up the middle. Does anyone want to trade a Center for Swift?
  27. I think he can progress as a QB and we can still win but along way to go.
