If they draft Banks, it will be to play LT. If he fails there, he might end up as a guard, but if they draft him it's hoping he will be the LT for the next 10 years.
-
The QBs in drafts always get drafted higher than their value. 3 out of the first 9 means someone drops. Or gives us a more valuable pick 10.
-
Does anyone listen to CHGO? They have a draft guy ( Fran Duffy) on every week and he appears very good with prospect evaluation.
-
Until he's signed, there's always the chance he doesn't. Greg Gabriel has the same agent as Thuney and when asked, Poles said we will get it done after the draft. I would say the same money as Jackson. He will draft a OT-OG anyways and if it doesn't get done, someone to fall in place at LG. Also a yr of Bill Murray being healthy may be next in line. He played well what little he played ( preseason also). It's hard to read minds of GMs. The draft will say alot as to what they expect to happen later. Let's say they take Banks Jr for competition at LT and Thuney doesn't sign, a lot of people projected Banks at OG, him or Kiran A moves over.

Wow that's a crazy turn of events...and in our favor too!

DE2 is a the 3rd good fit for me too, but IMO DE2 value falls way back to around 20-25. I'd feel better with Banks or Nolen at 10. There are rumors that Mason Graham is dropping. Who knows what is real. While I doubt he ever makes it to us at 10, DTs are not usually a high priority position in the draft. If he falls out of the top 5 then trading up for him starts getting tempting around 7. Which means giving up our 3rd Rd pick. Graham and Jarrett side by side becomes must-see football for me. Plus we have two big DEs squeezing the pocket off the edge waiting for the QB to try to escape, maybe 3 if we draft one more. Interior pressure changes games. Stunts become more effective. Blitzes become a serious concern for the opponent. I'm not advocating we make a trade up as I still prefer the trade back option. But the small move for Graham I'd accept. We'd definitely give up depth somewhere for this season but if we don't go OT in round 1 it means the team has more confidence in Braxton than this board does. Call that as you see it. We can still add a good RB and DE ... or Oline depth if desired. We lose out on decent depth at Safety, TE, and WR. Safety becomes less of an issue with a really good dline. We can also wait and see which vets get cut after camp starts. Cutting Bates can still free up $4mil so we have that as an option for a good late addition that might let us fill one of these gaps. If they see a good vet they really want to add they can also restructure DJ Moore's contract to free up more space.

Micah plays LB not DE although he steps into DE on some pass rush downs. Do we know if Green can play LB because there isn't a lot of film on that as far as I know? From the AI summary....Dallas keeps him off the LOS on run downs to avoid wearing him down and he's very effective off the ball. The most similar skillset to Parsons in this draft is Abdul Carter who also played LB at Penn St. Micah Parsons is a versatile player for the Dallas Cowboys who has played multiple positions. In the 2024 season, he played 694 snaps as a defensive end (ED), ranking 30th out of 211 defensive ends in terms of snap count.7 However, his role has been diverse throughout his career. In 2021, of his 961 defensive snaps, 390 were as a defensive lineman, 540 were as a box defender, and the rest were as a coverage player.84 Parsons' ability to play different positions has made him a valuable asset to the team, but his main position is linebacker, where he excels in tackling and pass rushing.

I thought it was a lack of film study and ability to read defenses.

Who can the Bears get next year or the year after that might be as good when drafting in the 20s? They should be a winning team the next 3-4 years, so they might not get the same shot at a talented O-linemen. Plus other positions of need are deep this year besides DE. I doubt they extend Thuney, the Bears gave money to Jonah Jackson and Drew Dahlman for 3 years. They have an opportunity to draft a guy this year to take his spot and save 15+ million. Either Kiran or the draftee will stay at LT the other at LG. If Thuney takes a discounted, 2 year 22-24 million, maybe but he might want 20 a year for 3 years. They will also have to pay Wright at that time.

The argument makes sense but taking the best true LT in this draft may be a later pick in other drafts. It's not a great draft for LT but many good OL as most project inside. Thuney is expected to be extended according to his agent but later in the off-season. So you need to draft a LT. Campbell is a good player but looked at more inside than LT. Could he play LT, of course, but most teams stick players where they would excel the most. A starting LT, or all pro guard? No LTs in the league have 32 5/8 arms and 78 wingspan.

Many have said this. James Pierce is 6.5 and the same weight and is considered a good edge setter and run defender. His frame could probably handle 15 more lbs, at 260 would be doable. Micah Parsons isn't large but I never really people say he's bad against the run. Averaged around 65 Ts a a season.
-
At 248lbs with 32" arms Green is nothing but a pass rusher in this scheme. I think he fits better as an edge in a 3-4 front. I think there are better options at 41 that can give us quality snaps on both run downs and pass downs. We saw Austin Booker get swallowed up and pushed around play after play last year. I think Booker's frame can handle more muscle and we'll see a better player this year. I wouldn't bet on him as the 3rd man in the DE rotation. If we were to lose one of our two DE starters our run defense would be in trouble (again).

Since I do not see the Bears extending Thuney, Braxton being limited come TC and on his last year, and Kiran going to need a real TC to get coached, they need a top prospect that can be LT/G. Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Ersery and Donovan Jackson are names the Bears need to consider. Poles said the Bears will bring in competition at LT, they are thinking short and long term, meaning they are serious about bringing in a player who could challenge Kiran at the start of camp. Braxton will be in the mix but he is expected to start late and they cannot bet on him having no set backs. Long term, they will need someone to replace Thuney at G and Braxton at LT, which would be Kiran or the draftee. If Jeanty is gone, my prediction is the top LT is our pick.

me too - and he doesn't need an elite long ball to be great. if he makes his reads, and gets the ball out fast, he will win a lot of games with this roster. I do think we still need a real WR3.
-
Yeah, well we are all just guessing. Im just saying I get that you're doing something a little different - trying to predict - instead of saying who you would take if it was your choice. Theyre related, but not the same thing, and so Im reading what you write through that lens. Which is cool.
-
Of course I have my own opinions but it comes down to what the bears decide so I try to pick their brains. I will probably totally be off base. In general the fans look differently at roster construction than Poles does. We're a couple weeks away from being surprised. Poles does that.

Good article. I don't think the bad year in LA affects him going forward. There will be aot of rushing to the right this year with Jackson and Wright.
-
I liked DT 2 but could easily be DE2 or OT2 . I don't think any other positions make sense.
-
With all we talk about with new coaches and new players, it still comes down to how well Caleb plays. I'm excited to watch him grow.

I do note the fundamental difference between what most of us are saying, and what you are saying. We are mostly saying who we want, what the bears should do, while you are more predicting what you think they WILL do. And what's interesting about that is that we could disagree and both be right. I could want banks, and be "sure" that's the right move, and you might predict they take Jeanty (or whoever) and they do that. One difference is that unless they take the guy I want, I can never "prove" I was right, at least not for a few season and see how the players turn out int he NFL, and that's still not proof, because a guy could do well on one team, and bust out on another. Whereas we will all know if you were "right" or not, because we will all see who the Bears actually do pick. That's a blessing and a curse for sure, but you could be able to say "see I was right" whereas me arguing that Im right Banks is the right pick is much harder to prove, even if we take him. But anyway, I do note the difference, and respect it.

As much as we all have different ideas on who and when, they have 4 picks that will make our team better. Who ever they deem the best players, I will rout for whether I think they are good or not. With the new coaching staff being involved in player evaluations, I trust whoever they take. As for the 4 players, I could give 50 combos as what I would like but I've leave that for brass to make the best decisions.

Bad news for Carr for sure, good news for us though!

I'm not sure it will fall that way but you do have good names. I get the impression this is what you would do. Is that what you think the bears will do? I'm not sure it's considered being a dinosaur to watch film ( 80% of the grade) and view other people's opinions. I think you did get the first 3 positions right but not necessarily in that order. If the bears think Banks is the best LT in the draft they may very well draft him. I personally think they will not draft a OL in the first round but if they bring him in for a 30 visit that would be more likely. So far they have met with 3 OTs Josh Conerly, Anthony Belton and John Williams and 2 IOL. Conerly is top 50 but not considered a first round pick. Obviously teams make grade that differently than football pundits. By their actions ( not bringing in the top 4 Ts) I don't think they will do that. Of course that doesn't mean they wouldn't, just trying to read the tea leafs.

Green in the 2nd and Arroyo in the 3rd would be crazy.

Looks like the Saints are going to need a QB, and a good chance they take one at 9:
