  2. The more I think about it, the more I think we are all just overlooking the obvious pick for the Bears if they stick at #10 (and assuming Jeanty is gone) and it's because it's a guy most of us don't really want, and that's Shemar Stewart, the edge from Texas A&M who only manages 4.5 sacks in three years. But if you look at everything else, it looks like a Poles pick. 1. So far he has only drafted players he brought in for a visit. Stewart checks that box. 2. Poles has showed a propensity to draft high RAS guys. Stewart scores a perfect 10.0 RAS. 3. Poles and the coaching staff has preached building through the trenches so he checks that box. 4. There is a need for another pass rusher to go with Sweat, Dayo, and Booker. 5. Size seems to fit the Dennis Allen mold. 6. In a draft that's really not that great at the top, maybe you just draft the guy with the best traits and trust your new coaching staff.

  4. Just listen to the Score segment with Ourlads leading scout. ( They are a scouting report that 26 NFL teams purchase every year) and he was saying NEs going to draft Jeanty. I haven't heard one other pundit say that. It actually makes sense with Vrabel being their new coach . Derrick Henry was his offense in Tennessee. Also that the bears will have the choice of the first tackle off the board Campbell or Membou. He says he thinks they take Campbell. Haugh mentioned Banks and he said as a freshman banks was rated to be the best OT in this draft but has never gotten better in 3 years. He says he will be moved to guard in the NFL. He also said Campbell will be tried at LT but he used a term I have never before ( wingspan differential) and said it's the worst of any lineman this year. His wingspan is shorter than his height. He said his tape is good against elite competition but will eventually be moved to guard. None of that interview suggests we should draft him at 10. Also he thinks Mason Graham will be available at 10 .
  5. I mostly look at these things: Pad Level Footwork = keeping a base under you as the rusher moves Back Bend = sinking the butt and pushing up to absorb energy Fluidity in the hips = getting reestablished as the angles change Raw Strength = country strong Hand Fighting Punching vs catching = rhythm. when you engage Intelligence = reading stunts, finding the right guy to block Speed in pulling and getting to the 2nd level, if necessary for the position or scheme Desire = play to the whistle or give up And then in doing all this, is it fluid or clumsy. Does it look under control or like chaos is about to erupt at any moment. Also to the idea of how they will pan out, no one can know that of course! All we can do is evaluate where they are right now. How a kid will be in 2 years with NFL coaching is hard to say, but what traits they have, and what problems they have should be apparent in the tape.
  6. Im afraid youre right. I just think its funny that the machine has to go through so many iterations just to land on what the film said from the beginning. DDPhil likes Campbell too, has him as his #2 OT, I think he's got real problems. That's one I disagree on. If Banks is gone, we are free to look at any of the other options like DL or skill position after all. But i really think that Banks is the right choice for us if he falls to us.
  7. I gotta say, I tried watching Banks game son YouTube (the Georgia game specifically) and while I can get something out of a lot of positions, I just can’t delineate between Gail’s and great O-line play to determine if a guy is worth a top ten pick or not. I don’t know what he’s supposed to be doing, what his assignment is, what the QB/RB is supposed to be doing. It seems like throughout the offseason, the theme is “In Ben Johnson We Trust”. He obviously getting a lot of input on the moves being made. We seem to have hired a defensive coordinator and an O-line coach people think are very good. So at this point if we take Banks at #10, I have to believe that Ben and the rest of the coaching staff is as in on the pick as Poles is and so let’s give them the same benefit of the doubt we seem to be giving to the Jonah Jackson move and Grady Jarrett signing, and all the others. I have my preferences, but I’m not going to pretend I know how any of these guys are going to pan out or fit with what they are trying to build.
  8. If the Membo hype stays alive, since I don't think 3 OTs go before we pick. I think the Bears would take Campbell or Banks because they both have played the position and Roushar can get them polished to play. Banks I think has the better tools to succeed but I don't discount Campbell's drive.
  9. I am seeing a lot more love for Banks lately. That's probably not a good thing because that means he's not going to be there at 10.
  10. Pass rushers are constantly setting things up for the crucial downs. Defenders talk and guys in the box see. They didn't always bull rush Braxton, because the other guy is running his thing. That's why Braxton couldn't tell a thing. Pressure was really bad for us when things counted. Caleb also played his best during this, which gives me hope for him. It won't be the same disaster this year.
  11. youre right! I should have said a pressure. Caleb has great escapability, so a lot of times that Braxton got pushed back it wasnt a sack per se. I do know that on key downs Caleb didnt have as much time as I (or he!) would have liked. I should have said it like that.

    Team notes

Braxton struggles with bull rushers but on 719 snaps he gave up a total of 5 sacks in 2024, and that's with Caleb holding onto the ball too long on many plays. If it were dial up a bull rush and get a sack, especially as you said every critical down in the 2nd half of the season where our offense was really stuck in the mud, I'd expect a lot more sacks than 5 total. Fortunately not every DE is Jared Verse or Myles Garrett or there'd be more than 5.
  14. The book is out on Braxton now - if you need a sack, you bull rush him. Teams were able to choose which down they wanted a sack on last year. Obviously you cant bull rush someone on every down, it gets predictable and you can scheme in help, but by the second half of the season, on critical downs, it was all bull rush.
  15. exactly and hes only 20. Banks is going to be a plus player in the NFL, especially with a guy like Roushar to guide him - I just worry hell be gone before pick 10.
  16. Coach Dan talked about how he believes Kiran has really good lower power and length. Braxton's weakness.
  17. Draft Buzz has changed their rankings and now Banks is their #6 ranked player overall, OT1. In mock drafts on that site it is almost impossible to get Banks at 10 anymore. I think Banks is light years ahead of Braxton Jones right now, and has room to grow. I think Amagadje has a better chance to be our starter in 2 years than Jones does. And Banks is significantly better than each.
  18. When is the last time you disagreed with Phil on a player? When I look to find people that agree with my opinion that is what I post. Lets say 50% agree and disagree with. I'm going to show you the people that align with my opinion. I would say the fact they (scouts) are divided makes a statement in itself to me. If we draft him at 10 then the bears see him as a plus player, if they don't that means they have or just find another more valuable to them. I trust the Bears scouting gives them much more perspective than me. If we take him, I hope he becomes a pro bowl type. If he is just a little better than Braxton, I would say that's a fail.( Didn't live up to expectations).
  19. I generally agree, I just find the tape analysis so much better than anywhere else that I put up with it. I agree with him a lot, so when he rants it's less offensive i guess because i agree with the point even if the show is over the top.
  20. I have probably watched 5 shows, not enough to agree or disagree with you. If someone annoys me I tend to not watch regularly. I tend to watch people that give out positive vibes, not that they aren't negative on some comments but just don't lecture you on a point to nausea.
  21. I think they will probably draft a blue player if available those are projected to be the stars. There will be some draftees that become great players, it's never a large number but those are unknown now. So a team may have a different list of blue players and find one. 50% of first round players never live up to expectations. It's all a crap shoot, if Poles finds us 5 or 6 players that contribute and a couple could become stars, I would be happy. Since becoming a GM, he has the highest % of first 2 rounds picks that are starting. It was a 91% rate. Caleb, Brisker, Gordon, Wright, Odunze, Dexter, Stevenson. Who am I missing? One has to not be a starter to be 91%.
  22. Lots of good names there - they would give us better depth and make us more solid in lots of ways. I also think there is something to be said for those core 6 guys on your team who are superheroes. We wont be back here again any time soon (we hope) so we should probably grab an impact player here to be a superhero. And dammit thats a good argument for getting a dominant DT at 10.
  23. he REALLY is. but I also think he's got about as good an eye for analysis as I see on the web. His reads on JF and Caleb were much better from my point of view, than Kurt Warner, and the others included. I do think JT OSullivan does a good job too. But Phil's are just as good, and often more insightful or educational that the youtube ones. Probably because Phil is a giant nerd, and the youtube pros are calibrating the level of detail to what people have the patience to watch. He is particularly good on OL, HB and QB breakdowns. But like with anyone, I dont always agree with him, he claims something, and the film is running, and you can see if you agree with him, or think he's calling it wrong. So I don't hear it like preaching, it's more like a guide to your own analysis. I also like how for draft evaluations, he will show you a complete half of a game, not cherry picked, and he will show you like 4 different opponents, especially the ones where they go up against other good players. And they will leave in and call out the bad reps too. No one is perfect. So it gives a fuller view of the players?
  24. I think if any blue players drop, it gives us an opportunity to trade back. Any of our needs would be better filled with a couple extra top 100 picks. There's no position that is a weakness that we HAVE to fill . We can get by with a second round RB, LT, DE,DT as our most realistic needs. S, WR, LB, TE are all depth picks this year. Seattle has extra picks in 2nd and 3rd round. They could draft WR, TE,LT . If competition for the 10 pick, get pick 52 and 92 . That's 6 picks in top 92. Kenneth Grant /DT Aire Ersery/LT Landon Jackson /DE Kaleb Johnson / RB Kevin Winston Jr /S Terrance Ferguson /TE That's 6 potential starters by year 2.
  25. With all this talk about Banks, Adam Mason brought up a great point that he is going to be very good trade bait for a trade down. There are several teams behind us that really need a LT. He is the best LT prospect in this draft especially if you need someone in Week 1. Jeanty could be the other trade bait...with my dream trade back to Dallas at 12 and yes that would come at a heavy price for Dallas. Maybe if we do that deal to 12 and then SF doesn't take Banks we could trade back again to SEA at 18. Those two trade backs could see us end up with three 3rd Rd picks. Six picks in the top 82 out of this draft could fill in some very good depth on our roster.
  26. I will mention Phil is annoying.
