Would this possibly nix the trade? Maybe the Dolphins knew about this. I hope it's nothing..

EDIT: Yeah it sounds like it's nothing

Statement from Brandon Marshalls Attorney Harvey Steinberg regarding Club incident:

"On March 12,2012 Brandon Marshall was the key note speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club.

While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.

While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter."

The “Beast” has lived up to his nickname, a woman alleges.

NFL star wide receiver Brandon Marshall — whose list of run-ins with the law is as long as a football field — allegedly slugged the woman at a Chelsea nightclub, The Post has learned.

Marshall was at Marquee early Sunday when he got into an argument with a group of friends celebrating a birthday, law-enforcement sources said.

Around 4 a.m., birthday girl Christin Myles, 24. left an upper floor to greet a friend downstairs.

When Myles tried to get back upstairs, a bouncer told her she had to wait because there was a fight between two football players — Marshall, 27, and an unknown athlete — who were being thrown out of the club, the sources said.

She later met up with her friends, who were arguing with the NFL bad boy and the other football player outside.

Marshall — who earned his nickname with his aggressive style of play — then allegedly cold-cocked Myles in the left eye. She suffered a black eye. It wasn’t clear if he allegedly intended to strike her or one of her pals.

Myles filed a police report.

A lawyer for Marshall — who was traded by the Miami Dolphins yesterday to the Chicago Bears — told The Post that the fight did not involve Marshall or his friends.

“While attempting to leave to avoid the melee [Marshall’s wife] was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.

While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter."

Police said the only report filed about that night names Marshall as a perpetrator.

Marshall’s rep declined to deny whether he threw a punch or say whether he attempted to file a police report about his wife’s injuries.

Sources said the Bears weren’t aware of the incident.

The melee came less than a year after Marshall was rushed to a Florida hospital after his wife allegedly stabbed him.

Marshall, who’s been busted at least six times, was involved in a New Year’s Eve 2006 fight in Denver that led to a teammate being fatally shot in a drive-by.

This is exactly why the Dolphins let him go for 2 third round picks, but it should be noted that the NYT likes to exaggerate alot of things when it comes to sports. I'm reading two conflicting stories. I'm not sure how the Bears can rescind the trade when they likely won't get to the bottom of this for atleast a couple of weeks, until the NFL does their investigation.

Sounds like the team had to know about it (happened "four days ago") and the character issues concern me. Not sure how Lovie will like this coming to the team. Not sure what I think as a fan, other than being really disappointed.

This is not the only Bears player who has had "Character issues" that the team has had to figure out a way to deal with.

Disappointing, but doesn't really chance my feelings about the trade. Worst case scenario, we lose him for a couple games and have to push through with the same team that started 7-3 last year.

I hope this is a case of some dumb ass seeing Marshal out at a club and thinks she can make some money.....If he gets suspeneded this could really suck. Im not saying i dont love the trade as I do not think they could have gotten a better WR for 2 3rds or even through FA.

I just hope this isn't an indication of the new regime's stand on character. I know Jerry drafted some guys with questionable pasts but have to think if he'd have known about an issue this recent he'd have pulled out of the deal. I'm not saying that would be the right thing to do as I agree with most that this trade, based on talent alone, was a no-brainer. But I sure don't want to see this team degenerate into the Tice era Vikings (Love Boat, etc) or worse yet, the Bengals.

The one thing that makes me feel a little better about this is Lovie Smith. I feel like if anyone can get into this kid's head, it would be him. And since everyone involved realizes this is Lovie's last year at the helm unless they turn it all around, there's definitely motivation for them to git er' done.

With all of that said, the only thing I'd hate worse than a losing team is one I couldn't be proud of.

Here's about as clear of a statement as you can get:

General manager Phil Emery issued a statement Wednesday morning saying in part: "Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend. We decided to move forward with the trade."

Briggs has never had an off the field incident with exception to what probably was a DUI. Again, not something I condone but not even in the same arena as the type of crap most athletes get in trouble with.

DUI/totaling a car and leaving the scene of an accident. Might not be what some athletes get away with, but comparable to this incident with Marshall...

Marshall might have punched a girl in the face (depending on which report you believe) and he's been stabbed by his wife and had multiple other incidents. Now I'm not aware of Marshall's past incidents involving him as being violent.

Briggs had 1 incident in his entire career. I've never heard him involved in anything else ever.
