  1. Im the Drunkbomber and I approve this message.
  2. This isnt really assuming the Bears are gonna win. Its more evaluating the other game, and comparing how both teams match up against us. Its not saying were gonna win.
  3. Shoop combined with a rookie qb(assuming they draft Russel) with poor decision making skills and the worst offensive line in the league should make for an interesting season.
  4. It depends on if we want to rely on our offense or defense. If we play Philly you can rest assure Joe Johnson is gonna have guys in Grossmans face and have hidden blitzes and disguised coverages to confuse him all game. If its New Orleans, were gonna need our defense to get pressure on Brees, Peanut to keep the ball out of Colstens hands and maybe even have Urlacher shadow Bush. Im fairly confident in our defenses ability against philly and our offesnes ability against New Orleans, so I guess it would depend which unit comes to play more against Seattle.
  5. I agree with the point that we'll only have a slim lead at the half and may pull away in the second half. I also think that if good Rex shows up and can match what he did in week 4 that would be enormous for momentum and we could ride it to Miami.
  6. I completely agree with this except Im pretty sure Jackson is gonna play.
  7. Injury report- Seahawks- Darrell Jackson: Jackson missed Wednesday's practice due to turf toe and may be limited in practice this week, but he is likely to play, reports the Seattle Times. D.J. Hackett: Hackett did not practice Wednesday and remains questionable for Sunday's game against Chicago due to a sprained right ankle, according to the Seattle Times. Marcus Trufant: Doubtful Bears- Charles Tillman: back, Questionable Jason Mckie: ankle, Questionable John St. Claire: Illness, Probable Alex Brown: Illness, Probable Chicago Bears 13-3 PF: 26.7 PA: 16 Seattle Seahawks 9-7 PF: 20.9 PA: 21 Key Matchup: Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera vs. Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren: Ron Rivera has changed up his defensive philosophy after losing defensive tackle Tommie Harris for the season by playing more eight-man fronts and zone blitz packages. This stops the opposing team's running game and gets more pressure on the quarterback. Rivera relies heavily on zone blitz principles that attack from his multiple four-man fronts, along with playing a lot of single safety man coverages and two-deep safety looks on the backend in coverage with Brian Urlacher protecting the deep middle of the field. By doing an excellent job of disguising these coverages, it will make it hard for Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck to get a good pre-snap read as the Bears back end moves around so much. Rivera will need to play some Cover 2 to take away the quick passing game that Holmgren loves to use instead of running the football. The Bears should be back to full strength in the back end while the Seahawks have issues with their banged up receiver corps. Look for Holmgren to stay aggressive on offense with his up-tempo offense. He'll change personnel on every snap unit he finds a softness in the Bears defense that he can exploit. He will attack the Bears zone blitz with his quick rhythm three-step passing attack that will get the ball out of Hasselbeck's hand before the rush gets to him. Holmgren will look to exploit the Bears Cover 2 scheme by lining up in a no-back formation and attacking the deep middle area of the field with a receiver checking down short as an outlet throw. Fans take: In this highly touted rematch two of the preseason NFC favorites replay the week four match-up in Chicago in low 30's wet weather. The last time these teams met Shaun Alexander was sidelined with a foot injury and hasnt really got it going since averaging about three yards per carry. On the other side of the field the Bears are without perenial pro-bowlers Mike Brown and Tommie Harris, their best run stoppers. All eyes are on Rex Grossman in his first full season as a starter which was one of the most inconsistant for any quarterback in recent history. In their last matchup Grossman went 17-31 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The rest of his season didn't go as smoothly and there have been calls for veteran back-up Brian Griese in the latter weeks. After poor performances by both quarterbacks in week 17 against Green Bay, Lovie Smith reiterated what he has all season, that Rex is his starter. The Seahawks still have a bitter taste in their mouth after a controversial Super Bowl last February against the Steelers. Last years league MVP Alexander has had an injury plagued season and seems to be missing LG Steve Hutchinson who was lost in free agency to the Vikings. Despite being banged up on both sides of the ball the Seahawks won a thriller at home against the Dallas Cowboys last week but will be missing their beloved 12th man when they return to the lake front. The opponent of the winner will already be known from Saturdays game between the Eagles and the Saints played in New Orleans. Seattle has had aspirations of returning to the Super Bowl all year and the Bears are still looking to get over the hump of winning a playoff game, a feat that hasn't been done in over a decade. This will be a much different game then the one played in week four but experts still have the Bears listed as the biggest favorites this weekend at -8.5.
  8. A team wouldnt give up a first rounder for him unless it was a sign and trade. To trade a franchised player would hit our cap and also only net us at best a fourth rounder. If we were to franchise him Id say we keep him for the year. We will be contenders again next year. Why not make another run at it with Briggs on our team.
  9. LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Rex Grossman turned over ticket distribution duties to his wife this week, is spending extra time at Halas Hall studying, and going to bed earlier than usual. He's shutting out everything else, including his critics, and zeroing in on what will be the most important game of his career. What everyone else thinks or wants or says is of little importance right now for the Chicago Bears' talented but erratic young quarterback. It's all about how he prepares and then how he plays. "Everything you do is geared toward winning this playoff game and you think about absolutely nothing else," Grossman said of Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Grossman raised some eyebrows when he revealed after a regular season-ending loss to Green Bay -- when his quarterback rating was a low-as-you-can-go 0.0 -- that he had not prepared properly for a variety of reasons, one that it was a meaningless game. He said Wednesday his comments were taken a bit out of context, that the Bears did practice well for that game and that he could have explained his feelings better in a one-on-one situation rather than in front of the TV cameras. "It was just a frame of mind. But yeah I definitely regret (it) and I won't talk to you as openly anymore," Grossman said. Grossman's performances in his fourth year and his first full season have been all over the place, much like his passes sometimes are. Against the Seahawks on Oct. 1, Grossman was on his game with 17 completions in 31 attempts for 232 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in a 37-6 Bears victory. Grossman threw only three interceptions in the first five games this season. In the final 11, he was picked off 17 times. "He's got a great arm, and he had a wonderful game against us. We didn't get any pressure on him in the first game. You get the rawest rookie -- which he is not -- to the veteran ... they're all capable of passing the ball," said Seattle coach Mike Holmgren, who knows a few things about quarterbacks, having worked with Joe Montana and Brett Favre. "I've always felt if a guy gets a chance to play, by his third year, he should get a little more of a comfort zone. He should understand the offense if he's fortunate enough to be with the same coach, the same system," Holmgren said. "Step 2 is the judgment of playing the position. That's what separates the quarterbacks in the league. You look at something and have to make a snap decision in a second and a half with all sorts of guys trying to get after you." Sometimes Grossman has been able to do that. Grossman is in his second season under offensive coordinator Ron Turner, but has played in three different NFL systems in his four years. He also missed most of his second and third seasons with injuries and spent the majority of his rookie season on the bench. A year ago in his first playoff assignment, he got off to a slow start and finished 17-of-41 for 192 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 29-21 loss to the Panthers. Now for the Bears to win in the playoffs for the first time since Jan. 1, 1995, Grossman will have to manage Turner's offense and not bog it down with turnovers and ill-advised passes. Chicago Bears backup quarterback Brian Griese stretches before football practice at the Bears' training facility in Lake Forest, Ill., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007. The Bears take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 in a NFC divisional playoff football in Chicago. AP - Jan 10, 3:18 pm EST "The big thing Rex has to do is just be efficient with the ball. Be very decisive, make good decisions and just trust his reads," Turner said. "Take the ball where it's supposed to go." And if he doesn't, he'll hear the boos and there will be cries again for backup Brian Griese. Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl last season, understands what Grossman is going through with the critics. "You're being evaluated not only on how you play and how you lead in the locker room, but also how thick your skin is and if you're able to basically ignore those things," Hasselbeck said. Holmgren said he couldn't compare the paths of Hasselbeck and Grossman because he didn't know enough about Grossman at this juncture. "But I know this: As a young quarterback in the league it takes time to get real comfortable playing the position. It's very, very difficult," Holmgren said. As he has all season, when he threw 23 TD passes and 20 interceptions and passed for more than 3,000 yards, Grossman insists he's never stopped believing in his own ability. "I've just had bad games. There is a rhythm, a momentum to certain games. Sometimes you get into it, (sometimes) you hit a couple bumps in the road, but never do I think you lose your confidence," he said.
  10. I dont know if were gonna be able to resign both of them. With the contract RMJ already has and with how much those two would get on the open market thats a lot of money to spend on cornerbacks.
  11. When the time comes where we're gonna have to make a decision on which of these guys to keep who do you want to see remain in a Bears uniform. Theyre actually very complimentary with Peanut being bigger and more physical but Vashers coverage is better.
  12. I was just gonna say before I read it that the Giants game was the one exception where both Turners calling and Grossmans play started out bad andmanaged to turn around.
  13. Thats what we should of been doing all season. Well probably know early if Turner is gonna attack the depleeted secondary.
  14. I think if we can get past this game it will do a lot for us this year and down the road in terms of getting the one and done monkey off our back.
  15. Im still not confident we are gonna lose Rivera. I dont see him as a head coach and he still isnt that big of a house hold name around the league. Its not hard to find a team that can run the cover two when you have talent on the field like the Bears do.
  16. Turner is hot and cold. One series he looks like a genious with some of his play calling and the next hes throwing bombs on 3 and 1.
  17. Weve already been laughing about this one in the axed coaches thread
  18. I was at the game last year during the season against Carolina and pretty much the game was won by our defensive line. The game against the Seahawks this year was a complete overall team domination. I have the same stance I did when we played the Seahawks the first time and thats that we should control this game.
  19. Im just worried about us beating ourselves. I know were a better team then Seattle.
  20. Im happy with this matchup. The Seahawks are hurting right now and Rex torched them last time he played them so Im confident in our chances of advancing.
  21. Looks like the rematch with the Seahawks is set. At least we know we match up with them and theyre really banged up right now. As far as Tiki goes, he gawn!
  22. Theres a chance I might be or my brother whos in town visiting thinks hes funny, which I believe might be the case after looking at my myspace, apparently I had a busy night of asking out chicks I went to high school with. Two can play this game.
