Unfortunately as far as we know Benson is the best RB we have on our roster and it hurts the team to lose him. I hate saying it believe me, but its the truth. Even cutting him wouldnt effect extending Harris or Hester at this point either. Theres no point to cutting depth just because he is a bust. Forte could be a bust or AP could get injured. Cutting him and not getting any compensation is a terrible move from our front office which is why they wouldnt do it.

Benson has nothing to do with Hass though. Cutting him in no way shape or form means Hass will be the guy to take his spot. Its actually very unlikely they would use the spot on another WR.

Ya youre right. I dont know why but I thought he was the one who came in against Washington because I just remembered Orton playing and it being a close game in the 4th and me actually wanting Griese to come in because I thought he could finish better than Orton. That must have been the end of the Minnesota game then.
-
He definitely is one of the last people in the NFL I would expect to see anything like this about.
-
They are supposed to have an open competition but I would assume Rex already has a leg up. Its pretty obvious that the coaches think hes better considering they have made him the starter when hes healthy for his whole career even when Orton was here and winning in 05. Both QBs had ups and downs last year. Grossmans second stint he did exactly what everyone has wanted him to since hes been a Bear. He played safely, and didnt lose us any games with mistakes and put us in a position to win. Orton played well the last two games but lets not forget that he looked terrible every second he was on the field before those last two games.

Im not saying we benefit much from keeping him, its more that we dont benefit from cutting him. We dont need his roster spot as of yet and we wont be over the cap.
-
It amazes me that Bears fans that bitch about Grossman would want Culpepper. His decline when he lost Moss was enormous. Its easy to look good when you have a guy that you can simply launch the ball up to and he comes down with it. He wouldnt have that here.
-
Bennett and Olsen wont be starting and when Olsen is in I highly doubt teams will put a linebacker on him in coverage.
-
Lloyd as the number 2?
-
They also have Michael Bush. However, back to the point of the thread. I can safely say that I hate Benson more than anyone but we dont really benefit from cutting him at all. Were not gonna be over the cap so it wont help us financially. Were not exactly overflowing with RB talent so its not like we have other guys lined up for the carries. We might as well see what he can do with the revamped o line since we have nothing to lose. As far as Rhodes goes, pass.

Brady Quinn would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to expensive

It can go either way. There isnt really any science to it. For every Romo/Warner/Brady theres a Manning/Manning/Rothlesburger. Theres also lots of guys like Alex Smith, Leinart, VY who are young and still have a lot to prove after being highly regarded out of college.

Booker Hester/Bradley Davis Bennett

Lots of things went wrong. I just dont think that Grossman shoulders any more blame than anyone else. Bensons fumble was bad. The fumble on the kick off, Reid I think was bad. Missing Tommie and Mike Brown destroyed our run defense. Either way, I think it was simply Mannings year to win.
-
So QB is why we lost the Super Bowl, shows how much I know, I thought it was the run defense...
-
Ya I saw all those. I just severely disagree with it. His skill set transfers terribly to the NFL.

I think I just got Rick Rolled.

First of all, the Bears didnt neglect to draft a qb because they didnt like the class. If anything this would have been a good year for them to draft one because they could have traded down in the second round to get one of the second tier guys. Secondly, we have no idea which qbs will be projected high in next years draft right now. If anyone says they knew after last years draft that Ryan would be the 3rd overall pick and Brohm would go late in the second is lying.
-
JA was on ESPN1000 yesterday and he said that Urlachers representatives had contacted them about reworking his contract and he said they want him here and he wants to be here but nothing has been worked out yet.
-
Is this guy being serious? Theres not a chance Tebow even goes in the first round and I would be surprised if he went on day one.
-
I know the Brohm comment wasnt geared only at me, I dont think we should have gotten him at 14 but in round 2 would have been good. I have stood pretty pat on saying I think he is the best QB in the draft though.
-
I have an idea. Anyone who thinks they can pick better players then JA list what you would have done differently, realistically though, now instead of after you already know who panned out and who didnt.
-
I think by far the biggest factor is the health of some of our defensive players. We NEED Mike Brown, Dusty Dvoracek, , Urlacher, Vasher and Tommie to stay healthy. If they do our defense should be able to maul our division. We should have Green bay and Detroits number and if we can stop AP we should be competitive with Minny. We also need the offensive line to play at a higher level and need our younger guys on offense start to develop. We may not have a ton of offensive stars but we certainly seem to have depth to try and fit a cohesive unit together. I wouldnt be shocked to see us go anything from 5-11 to 11-5 based on health, my prediction is 10-6 or 9-7 and the only way we have a shot at the playoffs is to win the division because I think both wild cards will come from the east again.
-
I agree about the o line. It is going to be very hard to develop any offensive skill positions if the line doesnt play much better this year. With all those late picks we had I honestly would have liked us to grab 3 or 4 offensive lineman and simply let them duke it out in training camp instead of drafting positions we absolutely dont need.
-
Easy to say since Favre has been the guy forever. Now is the true test. I do think Brohm is the best qb in this draft, better than Ryan even and I hate him being in our division. However, lets see how the Packers drafting QBs all the time works out for them without having Favre as an insurance policy. For all we know Rodgers can be a total bust. He hasnt proven anything yet.
