The more and more I think of it, the more I wouldn't mind if we took Rashard Mendenhall, RB out of Illinois. He is an absolute monster- a muscular, faster, better attituded Cedric Benson. However, I'd only do this if we could trade Benson to a team for a 2nd rounder, so that way, we could go Flacco in the 2nd, then somebody like Carl Nicks, then Roy Schuening. What are your thoughts on taking Mendy if we could get a 2nd, or 3rd, for Benson?
-
I seriously wouldn't doubt we take Mendenhall, as much as I hate to say it. If we do and don't make any trades, I doubt we get Flacco, b/c then with our 2nd rounder, we probably take Cherilus or Nicks.

Offense: Tom Brady (QB, New England), Adrian Peterson (RB, Minnesota) Defense: Bob Sanders (S, Indianapolis), Jared Allen (DE, Kansas City) Special Teams: Devin Hester (KR/PR, Chicago), Mat McBriar (P, Dallas) Now, if this team was an expansion team, they'd have the first overall pick. With that pick, I'd take Jake Long. Your turn.

Many solid signings or 1/2 big signings?

I'd ask for their 2009 2nd or 3rd. -

Also, what are the chances Dallas gives up their 2 firsts for our 1st? Giving up 2 firsts just to move up 8 spots is kind of wacky. But hey, Jones is an egotistical freak, so if he wants DMC, he can have my 14th pick, and I'll take those 2 first rounders. Not to mention I guess it does work out b/c the chart has those #'s almost equal. -
I don't get why you put those there. Our 5th pick in the draft is our 4th round, so therefore, putting "Round 3-4" there makes no sense. The same with Simpson- the 6th pick for us is our 5th rounder, so putting "round 4-5" again makes little sense.

Well I don't want Turner. I still want to give Benson another shot. If worse comes to worse, we could take a RB with our 1st rounder next year (Knowshon Moreno anyone??). Also, there's no way Flacco is still there when we pick for the 2nd time in the 3rd round.

I like the idea, only if Otah is still on the board. At 22, we'll be right in front of Pittsburgh who will probably go Otah, so there we need to take Otah, then at 28, probably Flacco (he might be gone to TB at 20. I still don't see why many think their biggest need is QB...). If Flacco's stock drops a bit in the combine, then maybe we can take James Hardy or Early Doucet at 28, then wait to take Flacco with our 2nd rounder. -
Exactly. And probably the same with Lilja. Colts guys don't succeed if they are drafted by another team. The system of Indy really makes players look great.

My last one until FA a week before the draft, please leave some comments. 1. Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt 2. Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware 3. Branden Albert, OG, Virginia 4. Jonathan Hefney, S, Tennessee 5. Kevin Smith, RB, Central Florida 6. Jerome Simpson, WR, Coastal Carolina 7. King Dunlap, OT, Auburn 8. Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin Predicted FA signings/moves, please leave comments: 1. Berrian- 5 years, $33 million 2. Faneca- 5 years, $40 million 3. Bryant Johnson- 4 years, $20 million 4. Cut Moose and Arch
-
I was thinking that maybe we should go after solid and just above average OL men then just 1 or 2 big name guys, like Faneca. We could get a guy like Stacy Andrews from Cincy who would only demand around $5-$6 million a year, and Jason Brown from Baltimore for the equal price of Andrews. With saving money there, we could then sign Berrian, DJ Hackett/Bryant Johnson, and maybe Ayanbedejo. Or, would you rather us address the WR position in the draft and just spend all the cap room on Faneca?

Like my boy Jacob Bell, who's 27

Last year the first round took like 7 hours

Let's say we traded somebody for another 2nd rounder. How unhappy would you be if we took Kentwan Balmer with our 2nd 2nd rounder, DT from North Carolina? He's arguably in the top 3 DT's this year, and we all know JA loves DT's.
-
That's what I said in the "Which one is more exciting, the draft or FA" thread.
-
I think if we can get Harris back, and sign Ken Hamlin or Eugene Wilson out of FA, then we cut let Brown go and cut Arch.
-
All that is very true, nice post. However, while FA might be more important, the draft is so much more exciting. Also, I like the idea of picking up Hamlin. A lot of people think Eugene Wilson would be a better signing, but Hamlin had 5 INT's last year to Wilson's 1, and Hamlin had almost 3x as many tackles as Wilson did. Now, obviously, Wilson missed 5-6 games, but that comes in affect, too. I want a S who will stay healthy, and obviously out of these 2, Hamlin is our guy. Also, if money comes into affect, I wouldn't mind signing Chris Crocker from Atlanta. He isn't awesome, or even great, but he's a solid starter who can get the job done.

I love the new format also, just like Prophet said. I love the 2 p.m. start instead of the noon or whatever it used to be start. Also, I like the new time limit between picks- what is it now, like 10 for the 1st round and 5 for the 2nd for somethin'? How do the rounds go, though? I forget. Is it the 1st 2 rounds are the first day, and the rest are the 2nd.
-
Ohh, now reading the question, I thought it was "which one do you feel is more important?". I change my mind to the draft, just like BearSox. It is very exciting, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
-
FA. I'd love, on March 1, if I woke up and I heard we signed a bigtime OL man, like Jacob Bell or Faneca. Hell, maybe JA is making 1 final push for a championship, and he's going to go over the cap and sign them both. If we do that, we can do my predicted trade of our 1st and 5th for a team's 2nd and 3rd, and then draft Flacco, Doucet, Hills, Schuening, and so on.
-
If you use that chart that says what each pick is worth, if we only traded a 1st rounder for a 2nd and a 3rd, we are still something like 250 short of what is close to equal, or exactly equal, so that's why I included a 5th. You can just use our 6th, too.
-
Apparently, he isn't a patient GM; rather a GM who "shops like your wife does". Signing a guy 15 minutes into the elgible time and picking up a guy 2-3 days after he's cut isn't too patient.
-
And then you thought to yourself, "Of course not, JA is probably planning on signing another punter before an OL. That, or he's picking his @$$". Well maybe you didn't think that, but that's what I would have thought.
