^ ^ ^ So...get a great WR, give a RB $8m this year, get a solid/good/great LT, a solid DB, and a solid DE or DT. That's it? Oh man, that'll be simple!

Licht was interviewed today, BTW.

PEOPLE- THERE IS A REASON I CAPITALIZED "RUMORS." CALM DOWN. I never said this WILL happen. In fact, I said I wasn't sure how credible he is. After doing some research, however, he has hit on a few of his predictions, so this is a bit more interesting than I originally thought. As for the Briggs talk...people need to choose a side. On this page only, one person who backs Briggs in this case said "we'd be crippled without Briggs" and then another, who also sides with Briggs, says "then let him hold out." How does that solve a damn thing? They'd be "crippled" with him on another team, and if he stays on the team, doesn't play and takes up a roster spot, then they're being "crippled" in that way as well. Guys, the Bears need a MIRACULOUS offseason to contend next year, and by miraculous, I mean 2 very good rookies, 2 solid looking ones, signing of 2 good pass catchers (unless one of the rookies is one), and a upgrade in the secondary and on the DL (unless those rookies help). If a team wants to take Briggs, give him a $2.5m/year raise for the next 3-4 years, let them. It's about time that the Bears begin to get younger and BETTER defensively. I'm not saying I want him gone, but if a team would take him for the Bears to move up in the draft or for a good, veteran player, I say do it. If he wants $3m more annually, he can leave. If he wants a minimal raise, work it out. I've heard he doesn't want that much of a raise, so the situation might work itself out. We won't know until next August, though.

1. Sproles has a lot more muscle in his body than Hester does. 2. Sproles is shorter than Hester yet he weighs more than Hester. 3. Sproles has been an RB his whole life, Hester has not. 4. Solution- keep Hester on ST permanently and nothing else but a few offensive plays weekly.

BTW, the more I think about it, the more I'd rather see the Bears trade up that high and take Matt Kalil.

If Miami wants two 3rd's and a 2nd for Marshall, I'll pass.

Does anyone know what our cap space is for next year?
Ed Hochuli 3:16 replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
Wow, that would be spectacular. I'm just going off what Sean Jensen tweeted a month or so ago. I think he said then it was going to be about $24.8m. -
If it's two 1st's and a 2nd, that'd be tough for me to swallow. The Bears might be sitting pretty for Riley Reiff at #19, who looks like he can play LT in the NFL, so he'd be a huge upgrade over Webb even if he ends up as just "solid." Trading away that many picks for a WR when the LB depth sucks, the DL is old and sucks, and their secondary is half young half old but they suck could be a drastic mistake. However, if they can try to salvage a 1st by including Briggs, that might work for me, but again then, the LB depth goes from bad to pathetic. But, this move would be very ballsy and show me that they want to win and help Cutler ASAP. As for Finley, I agree. If he's the only pass catcher they add all spring and summer, I'd be disappointed, but that will not happen.

per walterfootball.com Don't how credible Charlie Campbell is, but this makes for great talk regardless. If they traded way up for Blackmon and signed Finley, that would be a GREAT offseason. However, I'd rather see them hold onto the picks it'd take to get Blackmon and use those to get younger on D and better on O. Trading 2 first rounds + a 2nd is a bit much for an unknown commodity. Blackmon would be an offensive improvement obviously, but that's just 1 guy and leaves a lot to be desired on the OL.

About $25 million, I've heard. -
BUMP More Cutler-the-GM tweets from today. He also went on to say that we shouldn't believe everything we hear via the media, in response to someone telling him that the media has been saying his relationship with Bates is "overstated." He also mentioned wanting (his good friend, I may add) Tony Scheffler back. Lastly, he retweeted this: Im lovin this talk of a reunion between @JayCutler6 @BMarshall19 & @T_Scheff85. As Bart Scott said, CANT WAIT!!!

No, I'm not right all the time. Like for example, when I say I'd rather have Martz back, or who I think the Bears will sign in March and draft and April. But, when I say "according to sources.." I'm usually right. Look at my track record. Hub Arkush is an idiot. He doesn't have any sources and never has broken any news. Now, take a look at his track record.
-
That's 2 guys. If the Bears draft 2 TE's, everyone on this board will throw s***.
-
So, you want the Bears to draft a guy who will be like any of these who you mentioned? Please. If they're going WR, give me the safe route, which is free agency. The only guy on your list who I'd be satisfied with if Jeffery ended his career like his Gaffney, and even Gaffney wasn't/isn't great.
-
Guys, I'm not going to toot my own horn, but you all know I'm usually right on a lot of things in terms of "inside info." Here's my info that's not so inside because it's well known by most people: HUB ARKUSH IS A F***ING MORON. HE HAS ZERO INSIDE INFORMATION ON ANYTHING. He might end up being right here, but that doesn't mean he knew something we didn't.

I wouldn't mind Emery. I'm not sure how long he's been around, but the Chiefs have had some good drafts (Moeaki, Charles, McCluster, Bowe, Johnson, etc). As for Licht, I'll pass. I know it sounds weird since he's a Patriots guy, but the Patriots are a very overrated organization in my eyes, over the past few years especially; they've drafted horribly. Solder has been OK for them this year, and Gronkowski and Hernandez were nice picks, but that's about it.
-
Spurrier never had a player who was as big as Jeffery? Oh come on. Maybe you're right on the potential, but he has coached for a long time to say he's never had a WR with measurables like Jeffery's. Yes, he had Rice, but that's about it. I'm not going to say I'm wrong because you can point out one guy in Spurrier's career that dates back to 1987.
-
The chances of drafting a player in round 6 and him turning out to be a quality starter are slim to none. You can find me some guys like Jiquan Williams, Tom Brady, TJ Houshmandzadeh, etc who were drafting very late, but the odds are not with the player. If the Bears can draft a player who can play ST at a high level from a successful collegiate program, I say go for it. To your first line, I don't think ANY fan wants to see Briggs gone. But quite frankly, he wants more money and I don't see the Bears giving him that as he's making a fair amount already. To your 3rd line, I really am against drafting Alshon Jeffery. If you look at WR's who have played under Steve Spurrier, barely any of them have worked out in the NFL. If he holds out for a new extension, they will have no choice. And, I fully expect him to do so.

Trade Briggs for a 2nd round pick. Trade Knox for a 5th. Extend Idonije, Urlacher, Graham, Jennings, and Okoye. Cut Omiyale, Wootton, and Spaeth. Sign Robert Meachem, Eddie Royal, and Brady Quinn. Franchise Forte. 1) David DeCastro, OG, Stanford ---All of you know me as the guy who never wants OL this high. However, in this scenario, Williams would move back to LT and DeCastro would fill in at OG. Even if Webb stays or the Bears sign a LT through FA, DeCastro would start at RG or LG. 2) Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina ---In the past, I've said that I love McNutt. He's a very good player. However, in his final game, he was shut down by Alfonzo Dennard, another NFL prospect. So, I've switched to Jones, who was one of UNC's bright spots in their bowl game. He's a very big WR and can make the tough catch. Don't believe me? Watch his TD in the 1st quarter of their bowl game. Wow. 2) Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall ---Like it or not, the Bears need help at DE. Peppers is getting older, and he's their only playmaker anyway. At 6'4" 268, Curry has to put more bulk on, but he has the potential to be a good NFL DE. 3) Sean Spence, OLB, Miami ---With Briggs gone (in my scenario), the Bears will need a replacement for him. In 3rd round, Spence is great value. 3) Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut ---In a year where nobody gives a s*** about Big East football, Reyes has been a bright spot for the Huskies. He's very physical and can even play some DE. 4) Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana ---Johnson has dealt with a bit of legal trouble, but aside from that, he's been really good this year for the Griz. He's a bigger guy and he might even play some S in the NFL. 5) Mike Martin, DT, Michigan ---The Bears need all the help they can get at DT. 5) Tony Bergstrom, OT, Utah ---More OT depth, which they'll need if they get rid of Webb and/or Omiyale. 6) Chris Galippo, LB, Southern California ---He could play ST, but he'll never start as a LB. As a USC fan, I've seen him play and he's way too slow for that. 7) Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame ---What's a Bears draft without a safety? QB: Cutler, Quinn, Enderle RB: Forte, Barber, Bell FB: Clutts TE: Davis, Adams WR: Bennett, Meachem, Jones, Royal, Sanzenbacher, Hester OL: Williams, DeCastro, Garza, Louis, Carimi (subs: Webb, Bergstrom, Spencer) DE: Peppers, Idonije, Curry DT: Toeaina, Paea, Melton, Okoye, Martin LB: Urlacher, Spence, Roach, DeCicco, Galippo CB: Moore, Tillman, Johnson, Jennings S: Conte, Steltz, Wright, Smith, Venable last one until February (I'm sure I'm forgetting some guys, but you get the idea)

DeCastro is not a drop off in talent.

That's why he has the Bears taking him in the 2nd round... -
Possible Briggs replacement in the 3rd round? (look at their NFL comparison)

I remember last year Yahoo came out with a list of the 20 worst players in football. If they did that right now, Webb would be in that top 20. I know Jared Allen is a beast, but he absolutely KILLED Webb in the season finale. If Reily Reiff is there at 19, he has to be the pick. Webb is atrocious, and in 2 years, there's a very good chance he'll be playing in the CFL.

Tank Carder isn't really any good and Nick Toon is way too inconsistent. CB is a need but not at 19. -
Briggs is a great OLB but he'll be out of his prime soon, and the Bears need to get younger at OLB anyways. If they could trade Briggs and a 3rd or 4th for Marshall, they have to do it. Remember, Briggs wants a pretty significant extension and is unhappy about not receiving it yet. Then again, the new GM might want to give him that extra money. However, the chemistry between Marshall and Cutler is undeniable. If you can get Marshall for Briggs and keep that #1 pick to draft a OLB or OT, you do it.
