  1. Either he'll be a Bear or we'll trade him for a high pick. Noone is going to sign him and lose two first-rounders. These non-exclusive franchise players never get signed, and even though Briggs is a great player, he's not so great that he's gonna break that trend.
  2. We will not get two first-round picks for Lance Briggs. By that I mean: We will not get two first-round picks for Lance Briggs.
  3. I'd do it. If necessary, I'd take a second team. (No more than 2, though.)
  4. He's a de/lb tweeners, though. In the Bears system, he'd probably fit better as a de, and we've already got three good players there, for two spots. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE him as a player. But I don't think he's a good fit for the Bears.
  5. Exactly. If Rex's 2nd full season resembles Brees's 2nd full season, it'll be the end of Rex, cuz the Bears won't risk a SB run for qb development -- something the Chargers didn't have to worry about.
  6. I remember hearing that Brees worked his ass off in the off-season between 2003 and 2004. I hope Rex is doing that now, and doesn't need the shock of a disastrous 2nd full season to motivate him. That's what worries me in the comparison. On this team, Rex will get a much shorter leash than Brees had.
  7. I don't know about Spaeth, in particular, but a "superb" blocking te who's a redzone threat and a good checkdown receiver would be VERY useful. Obviously it's better to get Todd Heap, but it's difficult to get that type of player without using a first-round pick.
  8. No... Imo, the odds of injury are already too large. That's what ticks me off. Noone cares about this game, so f going half-ass -- go 1/4-ass, or 1/64-ass. Make it two-hand touch, whatever. Just don't get hurt, period.
  9. Yeah, he's graded as a day one pick, but ranked below a few mid-round picks, so he must have bumped him down not too long ago. Still a very positive description.
  10. I'm sure they'll get to Briggs. But first things first -- let's get Grossman that long-term deal, hey! Who's with me?!! Redskins are so very f'd. They have next to no picks, too.
  11. From nfldraftcountdown: Link. Has him listed as the #6 te in the draft.
  12. nfldraftcountdown.com also has the Bears nabbing Sears. So basically we can be certain that the Bears won't pick Sears or Olsen.
  13. As for the first part, I just don't agree with that. Different systems, not playing in the games, most of the time not even practicing because of injury -- you can't learn that way. Like the one guy below him in those qb ratings, he's always going to throw more than his fair share of picks, b/c he is a gunslinger type. But that guy's had a pretty decent run, all the same. And I think that line would win us a lot of games. I'm a big Rex supporter, but I want to add an unfixable one, height, to the weaknesses. He's GOT to be more careful about having passing lanes open when he makes his throws. Because when his passes get tipped, it's straight up into the air with that thing, and that scares the hell out of me. The biggest thing, though, is to handle the rush better. When he has hours to look, he makes some beautiful throws. But when he's backpedalling you get that garbage throw to Moose. I just hope Rex realizes that it has to happen this off-season. Drew Brees got two do-overs because he was on an awful team. Then he decided to get serious, and, voila. If Rex starts next season badly on this SB team, he'll never get another shot in the NFL.
  14. Off-topic, but I still don't understand why AP didn't get a single carry with Benson out.
  15. The long passes haven't been as much of a problem lately. The pick to Berrian was a good read, he just left it hanging. I'm not happy about it, but it doesn't piss me off the way the stupid throw to Moose does. And I definitely want to see the long throws mixed in next year. It's one of his best weapons, especially when we have Berrian on the other end. (Not that Bradley's a slouch, either.) Obviously Rex isn't the only problem. He made the most mistakes in the SB, no doubt, but there were some doosies all around. Many good qbs are abysmal in the first full season. Rex was unlucky enough to do it on a good team that was getting tons of attention. Also in a town that is apparently has Mariotti as a public face. Why do so many out of towners take that smug pos so seriously?
  16. Fair enough. But what do you expect a wr to say? I think he's wrong, it's just that I only have so much bile to spend in the next two weeks on football. I don't think I can afford any for this.
  17. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, mfin HATE Buck and Aikman. What assholes.
  18. That was for the full-size team, my friend. If da Bears were all 14 inches tall, I'd say mini-Bears 57, Saints 23. Dat's with evryone mini. It would be a good game.
  19. I dunno about the 4th rounder. John Abraham garnered a 1st rounder (#29) in a similar situation. Even if Briggs doesn't draw the same offer, I don't believe the gap is worth three rounds. It would be more of a trade-and-sign; but that sort of thing isn't so unusual in the NFL (Abraham & Branch just last year). Also, on the original topic, and cuz someone will bring it up, one thought would be holding onto Peanut as a safety and drafting a cb. (Dredging up an old debate, I know.) It would give the Bears some more versatility in the secondary, and they would retain a proven player. Otoh, I doubt Tillman would be content with the move, and, despite the injuries, I don't like the thought of cutting ties with Mike Brown. Not likely, but it's there.
  20. I don't think it's a top priority, but if there's value, sure. Not much would surprise me much on the first day. A first day de would, somewhat. A qb or rb in the first or second round. Other than that, anything goes, imo.
