  1. Isn't this the only year he's had injury problems? I could be wrong, but I thought he'd played every game in the last three years. Btw, a great youtube video "tribute" to Henne. I don't agree with the song, but man is it funny. Not safe for work (just language):
  2. Yeah, I wasn't implying that you thought he'd be a good 1st round pick when I added that caveat, and I didn't take that from your post. I just wanted to be clear about what I was saying, with the thread title and all.
  3. Henne wouldn't be a bad pick. He shouldn't go 14th, but he could be a good pro qb.
  4. Since you're making the hackneyed Romo comparison, I will admit that it would be fine if the Bears sign Brennan as an undrafted free agent. Even if it takes three years before he's ready to take the helm. If that's all people want, I'm totally on board.
  5. Okay. I remember plays where he had no idea where pressure was coming from and apparently couldn't be bothered to look. And, he didn't get any better as the game went on. And, his funky delivery is a problem. You're right, this game doesn't prove that he isn't a good qb. But he looked so incredibly lost, it does convince me that he's not even close to being ready now. He needs some MAJOR redemption during Senior Bowl week to deserve a 2nd round look.
  6. Iirc, Oher is staying. Has Boone or Loadholt made a decision yet? The more tackles, the better.
  7. HE -- Billick -- made that statement, not "they". And they did fire the whole staff, though Newsome says they'll consider Ryan for the HC gig.
  8. MORE. Meaning, I don't know, but I think the Cowboys got a bargain here. I don't expect the Bears to get a similar break, plus, Berrian is better than Crayton. So definitely MORE.
  9. Crayton signed an extension. So if you were thinking about going that route...
  10. Each new mock is the worst mock ever. It's not done by some guy, it's the result of a computer simulation, using some sort of average ranking of prospects. It's a neat project, anyway. For those wanting a tackle, you should know that the sim is set up with ot being the team's biggest need -- but those remaining in the first are considered too much of a reach.
  11. Bledsoe was traded for 1 #1 pick. I wouldn't be surprised if Baltimore makes a play for McNabb, if he becomes available. They may be losing some contracts. And Miami, SF, Buffalo, and Jacksonville seem VERY unlikely, for different reasons.
  12. If you really think the odds of getting Romo are comparable to the odds of getting McNabb, then yes, you are the crazy one. I'm not saying it'll happen -- I think it's unlikely -- but it's ridiculous to just write it off. You talk about explaining it to Philly fans...who are famous for hating McNabb. Go to an Eagles message board -- there are plenty of people who want him gone yesterday, and more who are expecting him to be gone, whether they like it or not. It's not pure fantasy. And I've always like McNabb, but shouldn't a perennial Pro Bowl qb, I dunno...consistently make the Pro Bowl? Or maybe just make the Pro Bowl? You'd think that would be one way of defining a perennial Pro Bowler, but maybe I'm wrong... Yeah, he'll probably stay. But comparing his situation to Romo's is ludicrous.
  13. We should not draft linemen just to draft linemen. The worst thing you can do in a draft is reach out of desperation. It the pick doesn't provide good value, move on.
  14. I don't think it's flamable, but it won't happen. First, sign-and-trades are difficult in the NFL because of cap considerations. Second, there's no reason for a player to do a sign-and-trade, since his current team can't offer him more money than another team. (Make no mistake, Briggs WILL be a fa if the Bears don't sign him. Angelo promised Briggs he would not franchise him again if he played this year. Angelo can't renege on that without losing a ton of credibility with the players, even those his own team, and he seems genuinely concerned about keeping a good relationship with his players -- consider his reluctance to franchise guys in the past.) Third, maybe this is just me, but Briggs doesn't seem to fit a 3-4 very well. He doesn't have ideal size, he's never been much of a blitzer. I'm not saying he'd be a bad player, but he doesn't fit a 3-4 well enough to deserve a first-round pick, much less second overall. So there's zero chance of this happening.
  15. I agree with your point, but I don't know if Bush is a great example. Deuce was coming off an injury and his production had dropped sharply. Beyond that, Bush was thought to be a once-every-five-years-or-so type of talent. Benson was very highly regarded, but he wasn't a can't-pass sort of player. (McFadden is closer.) Teams certainly have taken heat for choosing backs when they have a good starter -- when Cinci took Perry, when KC took Johnson. And those two are proof that the results can go either way. Edit: One other thing with Bush is that it's pretty easy to have both Bush and McAllister on the field together, with Bush split out. That doesn't work as well with Jones and Benson. Jones is a good receiver for a back, no doubt, but he's not a '/wr' type.
  16. I just can't see Arizona letting him go, considering how disappointing Leinart was this year. They started playing Warner even when Leinart was healthy. He'd have to raise absolute hell for them to get rid of him. Or get his wife to, whichever.
  17. A 2nd rounder would be a "top pick", I'm guessing? Just an aside. I think you're wrong about the "2 options". Even if we spend a high pick on a qb, there's a possibility we can compete next year and no guarantee that a rookie would be ready immediately.
  18. I don't think so. If Grossman performs and the rookie doesn't pan out, fine, resign Grossman long-term. If Grossman bombs and the rookie develops, it's a short term deal anyway. If they both work out, you have a Brees-Rivers situation, which is a nice problem to have. Of course, there's always possibility D... The Bears wouldn't be lying to Grossman. All they'll say is that he'll have the chance to compete for the starting job in 2008. He knows that if he wins it and performs well, he'll have a starting job somewhere in 2009. That's the best offer he'll get anywhere. Resigning Grossman makes sense from both sides. Unless we get McNabb, I can't imagine he's not back.
  19. Umm...you said top 10, not 4-10. I'm just saying.
  20. Braylon Edwards is definitely Pro Bowl worthy, and Brown was performing at that level before the injury.
  21. How the hell do you put Bazuin on that list? Guy's just been on ir. That's ridiculous.
  22. Yup, that's basically what I'm thinking.
  23. No, the idea is that one of that group will be available when we draft at the top of the second. If you want, you can trade up a bit from there to get better pickings. But still, I don't see the dropoff from Clady to Baker (say) being as great as the dropoff from Phillips to whoever (Steltz, I guess).
  24. Safety from the U (great record producing dbs). 210, good speed, covers the field well (at least when I've seen him).
