If Forte and K Jones goes down, we won't be able to rely on Wolfe and we'll have to get someone. However, Even is it were AP other than Wolfe, we'd still have to get someone. AP could just spell if better possibly short-term. But I don't think as a franchise, we need to look that short. I don't htink anyone's proposing he is an every-down back. The idea is that he will spell ANY of the guys starting. So if Forte and Jones both go down...we'd have to get a new guy no matter what. I think that's literally the case with any franchise who's top 3 RB go down.

John Lynch weighs in on Marshall, Cutler, Bears
madlithuanian replied to defiantgiant's topic in Bearstalk
Don't know why, but I'm finding myself liking Lynch more and more! -
In a nutshell, why is he even saying anything? Does that do him or his team any good? Even if he is right...
-
I follow your point. However, I think we are trusting that Jones can get it done. If Forte goes down seriously, then we call Shaun Alexander... I'd rather invest in the youth and upside of Wolfe over AP...
-
Also, in Wolfe's defense, he did better than AP in Special Teams. I think more tackles at least... And he's younger.
-
I think we know more about where Jimmy Hoffa is burried than what the heck Smith does...

I do agree. This is really nothing in the grand scheme. However, ANYTHING can can be used as a positive for our up-and-coming WR crew can only be a good thing. Even a slight chip could prove to be an advantage.

Point well made! However, I did sense a ton of arrogance from Weiss...kind of similar w/ McDaniels.
-
Bottom line, while Driver may be correct, he certainly has put up some lovely material for the bulletin board!
-
I hear ya... He looks to be like Crennell, Weiss, and probably Mangini...good coordinators w/ Big Bad Bill, but lousy on their own.
-
My gut feeling is Hanie stays and we pick up a vet. Bas gets either cut or put on the practice squad... There just is too much upside w/ Hanie. And if his family's cool, well then...

Yeah, it really seems odd this fixation the staff has on this guy. It seems like there's always one or two guys the staff is so high on that they literally are high...

Donald Driver issues thumbs down on Bears' wideouts Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 16, 2009 9:45 PM ET Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver knows what an effective receiving corps is supposed to look like: dangerous, consistent and productive. In a blunt comment that's certain to become bulletin-board material in the Chicago Bears' locker room, Driver gave a candid assessment of the Bears' receivers during an interview with NFL Sirius Radio, per Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I think Chicago did a great job, and Lovie Smith went out there and got Jay Cutler to lead this team, but one thing they don't have is they don't have the receiver group," Driver said. "They have the running back, they have the offensive line and they have a great defense. "But you're going to have to need receivers to make plays down the field, and they don't have that right now." It's hard to argue with Driver's scouting report. With the exception of speedy Devin Hester, there's no potential impact presence outside in Chicago Meanwhile, Driver weighed in on former Packers quarterback Brett Favre. "Minnesota has a great running game, but they just don't have the top-of-the-line quarterback that they need," Driver said. "So, I'm hoping my guy doesn't go over there, but if he does then I wish the best for him." Driver said he has remained in contact with Favre. Unlike several other NFL players that have grown weary of the drama surrounding Favre, Driver was supportive of his former quarterback and said that Favre's reputation in Green Bay is undamaged as far as he's concerned. "When we talk we just talk about how his arm is feeling and how's the family," Driver said. "My own opinion is that his legacy is not going to be tarnished by anything. He's still going to be able to retire as a Green Bay Packer. "I don't think anyone else will ever wear the No. 4 jersey in Green Bay ever again. It would not hurt him."

Jamie Dukes: McDaniels can't be trusted Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 16, 2009 10:15 PM ET Former NFL offensive lineman Jamie Dukes came out swinging in his blog today, and he delivered a few uppercuts to Denver Broncos rookie coach Josh McDaniels. The NFL Network analyst hammered McDaniels for having a "problem with honesty," adding that other players besides former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler have "privately expressed concern." Considering a lot of players, including disgruntled Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, pass through the NFL Network studio in Los Angeles, that's an intriguing comment. Dukes referenced how Cutler said that the reason he asked to be traded stemmed from McDaniels repeatedly refusing to admit that he had tried to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel via a prospective trade. Dukes also pointed out that McDaniels told Denver reporters earlier this year that he had met with Marshall following the wide receiver's meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. Days later, though, McDaniels acknowledged to KDVR-TV that he hadn't actually met with Marshall. In conclusion, Dukes delivered a verbal forearm shiver to McDaniels. "As a former NFL player, I can tell you that trust is the foundation between the player and the coach," Dukes wrote. "When players trust their coach, they play at another level. Unfortunately, truthfulness seems to be a character trait that Bill Belichick didn't pass down to young McDaniels." Ouch. Of course, it's worth nothing that a lot of NFL people don't always tell the truth for strategic reasons and other purposes. It's also fair to say that Dukes might not be getting a Christmas card from McDaniels

The Giants didn't just have a run...they won it. It makes a big difference. I didn't see NE in the playoffs last year after losing to them. Just saying...there's something to the SB loser curse. They are certainly a team to be reckoned with now...but something tells me it won't fall into place like it did last year.

I hear ya! Not every rook can be Forte!

Devin Hester willing to give up return duties
madlithuanian replied to defiantgiant's topic in Bearstalk
I want my cake and eat it too! Hester needs to return 3 for TD's and then we can plop him on the WR slot alone from then on out! -
I'm calling curse! Something bad always seems to happen to Super Bowl losing teams in recent history (...um, 2006 bears anyone?). AZ is locked and loaded for such... 1. Aging Warner 2. Over-acheiving last year 3. Boldin not happy...and hurt maybe? I'm just having touble seeing lightning strike again for them...

I would SO love to see Hester break the return record! I do love, how with the SB and missed FG, returns, he's basically right there... -
Cutler will make Bears fans remember Rex Grossman?

HAAAAA!!!!!!! Spot on! -
Cutler will make Bears fans remember Rex Grossman?

Very true. If Rex walked in here as a pro bowl QB...fans would have expected EVEN MORE OUT OF HIM! -
Cutler will make Bears fans remember Rex Grossman?
madlithuanian replied to Wesson44's topic in Bearstalk
He's too sure of himself for that... Cutler's got serious confidence. -
And on that note, I wonder what marino and Elway's near int's are? I recall a lot of passes bouncing off defenders by sheer velocity alone...

Thanks for the breakdown, it was a good read!
