Georgia risks NCAA penalties over Cutler-Stafford gift
madlithuanian replied to defiantgiant's topic in Bearstalk
If this were the govt going after him, I'd be livid w/ the waste of my tax dollars. But since it's private, it's just bad business. -
Agreed. Like so many, he just appeared to have a wandering eye...

McNair helped Cutler prepare for the NFL Posted by Mike Florio on July 9, 2009 9:30 AM If quarterback Jay Cutler becomes the first true franchise quarterback the Bears have had since Sid Luckman, Chicago fans will owe a partial debt of gratitude to the late Steve McNair. Cutler says that McNair went out of his way to help the former Vanderbilt standout prepare for his official debut for NFL scouts. Specifically, McNair helped Cutler get ready for his time at the Senior Bowl, and it was during the week of practice sessions that Cutler accelerated a draft-board climb that stopped at No. 11 overall. McNair's assistance was particularly useful because Cutler's Senior Bowl team was coached by the Titans' staff. "Mac met with me on two occasions, and he would have stayed there with me all day, as long as it took for me to learn the offense. I'll never forget that, and that just shows you the type of guy he was,'' Cutler told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. "That was going to be a big step for me to go there and play well. Ever since then I have thought of him as a friend.'' Of course, the gesture might have been fueled by the fact that the two men had the same agent -- Bus Cook. Still, McNair easily could have told Cook to find someone else to help Cutler. "Mac was a great guy; he took time out for everybody,'' Cutler said. "I always remember being out with him, and I've never seen him say no to a picture or an autograph. He was a guy that was always there for somebody, always there to lend a hand." The hand he lent to Cutler has helped him become the best of the first-round quarterbacks picked three years ago, with performances to date far superior to those of Matt Leinart (tenth overall) and McNair's protege and successor, Vince Young (third overall).

I'd agree... Rideau looks like a good possibility and the coaching staff seem to love them some Davis...

Larry Mayer's been busy! Thanks for the updates!

I suppose not... The great weather doesn't come for free...

Not to sounds harsh, but as I've read, the Los Angeles and California taxpayers are footing a serious bill for the Jackson funeral. From my understanding, it sounds like it should be a cost that both the Jackson family and the promotion company, AEG, should be paying. The Staples Center and surround Theater hold about 25,000 people at best, and my understanding is the Jackson family had about half that held for them. it kind of almost sounds like a private ceremony and promotion. I just don't feel it's right in this economy for the taxpayers to be footing the bill when both the Jackson family and AEG have the means to foot this bill and are making money off it. The tickets are free, but the parking and consessions aren't. I have no problem with a nice send-off, but I just don't see how public money should be used to do it. Just curious if anyone feels similar or just the opposite... This is a pretty big issue hee in LA.

Interesting... I really would have thought Garza would have more. But I think I'm recalling false starts more!

Looks like they're brothers! http://www.profootballweekly.com/staff/dan-arkush/ Apples don't fall too far from the tree!

Are Hub and Dan the same guy? I'm thinking brothers... But both do appear to be guilty of the same regardless...

Yeah, I could use a vouch too!

Good qeustions... I do honestly think that if we fail to make the playoffs, we just may see a new HC. It would somewhat say that JA did his job and Smith did not. I'm simply hoping that the light goes off for Smith and he learns and improves.

Yeah, I thought as much after I posted my "move it" post...

Sorry, but how is this and some of your other posts in this section "Sports" related? These should go in the "Water Cooler" section, no?

Dang! Not sure if a few beers would help or hurt!

I think you're on to something there... It was complete anihilation... I was hoping for Miami! Revenge is a dish best served in New Orleans by a hungover defense!

Too true!

I think you're right...they're getting the slot due to 4 SB appearances w/ that D. And yes, we did play more games and kicked more ass... Especially that year.

That's the video I saw. Top 10 of All Time. There definitley appears to be some ommissions, and one of the announcers mentioned it...the Dallas D. Overall, I don't have much issue with the list. Lists are just reasons to argue at a bar. There's not one fan I think here that would not put the 85 Bears on top. And I know, my Baltimore friends would say the same about the Ravens. And my Pittsburgh friends would think it's just right. I think Pitt gets the nod for one obvious reason. They're good right now and just won it all. It's more on people's minds... And historicaly it's been a much stronger franchise at least in the modern era. I still will argue Bears at number 1 until I turn (navy) blue (and burnt orange). Really, I think any in the top 3 could be argued as #1...and it almost boils down to personal preference.

I completely get your frustration. So much of this, or many other issues for that matter, seems to get dragged on. However, I think that's just the way it is. I'm sure it's no different than me waiting our my home re-financing right now. It should be cut and dry, but I've got to wait it out. For Burress, I think Goodell will lay the punishment sometime in July before camps start. I have no justification other than common sense. But we all know that common sense is rarely prevalent when dealing w/ legal issues...

I really could not agree more... Athletes, or "stars" in general can say whatever they'd like. We all have the right to turn the channel or no longer buy their products if we disagree. In many cases, having the high profile spokesperson can be a huge plus. (For instance, Cutler and diabetes...) And sometimes it gets to a point of silliness and far too political... "Stars" simply speak up at their own risk. (Leaving the second part of the original post question well enough alone...)

I just don't see it happening.
