I don't blame Davis's situation becasue of injury... Muster at least tried. We had so many worse 1st round picks...just not 2 in the same round as often.
-
Agreed. I honestly think is the the best LB crew we've had since Urlacher joined us... I'm looking forward to see the gamage they'll create! Now, we just need to make sure we get that pass rush/run stopping form the D Line!
-
You and me both! I'm just kind of so surprised and happy, than I feel like nothing would surprise me now!
-
Hopefully, they call learn from their errors and continue to build this team rather than resting on laurels...

JA sure does deserve a ton of credit this off-season! Why would getting Boldin now not even come as a shock!?
-
That is very cool! This looks to be our fastest LB crew of recent! Maybe even rivaling some of our best ever! (OK, I'll put the kool-aid down...) from PFT: Bears Haul In Tinoisamoa Posted by Aaron Wilson on May 29, 2009, 5:34 p.m. The Chicago Bears reached an agreement on a one-year contract today with veteran free agent linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times. The transaction reunites the former St. Louis Rams starter with Bears coach Lovie Smith and linebackers coach Bob Babich, who previously coached Tinoisamoa in St. Louis. Tinoisamoa reportedly chose the Bears over the Buffalo Bills. He also visited the New England Patriots, but they signed Paris Lenon this week. Per the report, Tinoisamoa is projected to play on first and second downs for the Bears. A former second-round draft pick from the University of Hawaii, Tinoisamoa led the Rams in tackles during four of his six NFL seasons.

Looks like it! http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/05/ma...ink_anothe.html Make it seven: Bears ink another draft pick By Brad Biggson May 29, 2009 3:35 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Add defensive end Henry Melton to the list of draft picks the Bears have come to terms with today. The fourth-round draft pick has agreed to a four-year deal and becomes the seventh draft pick to reach terms with the Bears and contract negotiator Cliff Stein today. The Bears easily led the league in draft picks signed. The only remaining picks are defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert and wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias. Earlier, the team announced it had reached agreements with D.J. Moore, Johnny Knox, Marcus Freeman, Al Afalava, Lance Louis and Derek Kinder. Sources have said the Bears want to have all draft picks under contract by mid-June. At this rate, they might have all draft picks under contract by June.

Did Melton just sign I ssume?

I think poor Izzy's had more weight fluctuation than Kirstie Alley! I'm just happy to have a good solid player like that on board for depth.
-
The top 3 to go... I read where the expectation is mid-June. Good job JA!
-
Good solid player. Glad he'll be with us for a while.

Neither are Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth...but together it's like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! There's something to the difference of opinion that makes the whole better... Keeps people in check and honest.

I can't resist now sticking my nose in! It boils down again to an arguement from a while back...probable vs possible. While what BigDaddy is saying is pure "prediction" the likes of which a soothsayer or psychic would say, he is in no short form saying it will be probable. Everyone else is basically saying it'll be possible. When debating the potential for certain occurrances to happen (attempting to use some semblance of acctuarial statistics, etc.), it would seem logic says that Smith won't be canned the middle of this season. 1. No Bears coach has ever been let go mid-season 2. Smith's track record overall is still good, and would still be even if 0-16. 3. The Bears management historically have seen their coaches thtrough the length of the contract. 4. last season had a winning record, but just the playoffs were missed. Given all that, it would appear easy to conclude Smith will probably not be fired during the season barring some henious criminal action on his part. Is it possible? Yes! We all know management can fire at will. But nothing tells us that that action will be probable. End of season, next season...? I'd say there's a greater chance given our off-season moves than in year's/regime's past. But oddsare still no. The team will probably do well enough. It's a Vegas bet. You can choose to bet differently than the way the spread is set. Odds are you'll lose. But sometimes the roulette wheel comes up 00.

I agree with you. Manyt fans' expectations to get to that 1985 level is silly. Sounds like you have a good ten years on me! I think that first year, I was only truly aware of Walter! My dad sat me down and told me to watch this guy run!

One other giuy never mentioned is Wendell Davis. He played only briefly due to injury, but when he played, he looked darn good. Any Gentry love?

Good calls!

Hey, I'm just sticking up for Coach! Granted, I more than respect the history you've personally witnessed. I've only been privvy from 1978...when as an 8 year old I started caring. So Ditka really defines the Bears for me personally. But I went back and read my history with the many great books that are out there. All coaches have their warts. From Walsh to Knoll to Shula to Hallas to Johnson. I don't remotely consider Ditka one of the all time greats (as a coach, he is as a TE). But he is a great for Chicago. Hallas was a cheap bastard that hindered the team's success with his penny pinching. But, I love him! If not for him, there'd be no NFL...etc. Sometimes the planets don't align. That Super Team from 85 should have won more. Remove one of the best D coordinators of all time, remove an injury prone winning QB, remove an intergral linebacker, and any team will struggle to repeat. He made his share of mistakes, like all of them. But, overall, for the 10 years he coached...oppoenents were scared of us! They played us, they'd get hurt, and more often than not, they'd lose. Even teams that the great Butkus and Sayers played in couldn't say that. He restored Bear pride. Some are offfended by the quasi-mockery on SNL...however, no other team, no other coach, no other team got to be "made fun" of like that. It's an honor. It's in the psyche... Let's also not forget what transpired during his time... Bill Walsh's super 49'ers were around. Parcell's Giants Gibbs' Redskins...all those teams won it when we couldn't. All great teams. The league won owned by the NFC and we only could punch through once... Sad, but it is what it is. But, one team, one year, one time...NO ONE CAN TOP THOSE 85 BEARS!!! And for that alone, Ditka deserves his props. ...just sayin'. I'll get off my soapbox now...

I'm partial to Robinson... I also think Engram and Conway were pretty darn good.
-
I can't say I'd disagree...

I guess my memory recalls differently. I have fond memories of Ditka. Yep, I know there were some struggles the last few seasons, but he had a 112/68 record. That's a 62.2% winning percentage. That's really outstanding for a 10 year period. Maybe your term "undured" is what I take issue with. It comes with a predisposition of negativity. I didn't really "endure" Brian urlacher as LB after Mike Singletary. I've rather enjoyed him as a player. He's not Samurai Mike, but he's been darn awesome. I've endured many a inside LB in the meantime, but 've never felt that I had to "endure" Urlacher. ******************* Endurance (also called sufferance) is the ability for an animal to exert itself for a long period of time. In humans, it is usually used in aerobic or anaerobic exercise. The definition of 'long' varies according to the type of exertion - minutes for high intensity anaerobic exercise, hours or days for low intensity. Training for endurance can have a negative impact on the ability to exert strength unless an individual also undertakes resistance training to counteract this effect.[1]

No worries! I'd love Mike Brown as a DB coach! ...and I know there appears to be some upside w/ Jones. My point was just related to Lloyd. If you're gonna bring back an injury prone guy, bring back one that I think could even have a bigger impact! And a true "Bear"!
-
Ditka? Really? Please don't lump Ditka in that group.... He and Hallas have been the only coaches that instilled any real success into the team. I fear Smith may be the benefactor of extreme defensive and special teams luck. But, I hope my fear is laid to rest these next few seasons! I'd be more than thrilled to include him w/ Hallas and Ditka as the greatest of Bears' coaches.
-
Yeah, when he's good he's a delight. But, he can't stay on the field. If we're taking guys back that are injury prone, then Mike Brown needs to be first on that list!

Not Virginia! Michael! (there goes my lunch...)
