I remember McGarigle from that years' draft... Heck, it's sad when the big news is practice squad guys!
-
Great post dawhizz! While I kind of like the possibility of Bowman moving, on paper, I do see the trend you mention...and it is a bit disconcerning.

Chile, That question sums up a lot of our frustration in a nutshell! And I don't see an answer on the horizon...

They've been busy...

I was on Smith's side early on...then I started to see the emperor had no clothes during our run to the SB. The following year(s) pretty much cemented that. I, as well, pretty much gave JA the benefit of the doubt for a lot longer. But, now it just seems that he's not any better than many GM's out there. And while he might be better than what we'd had in the past, it's still not good enough. I think the ownership is poor at best. They really do not do very well at cementing themselves as a charter franchise in this league. Upstarts and former bums like NE are running their businesses far better than the McCaskey's are. I'm not sure if I have the "faith"...but I wll still root and cheer like a lunatic every Sunday. Given our handcuffs, like watching during the Wanny years, I will pick and choose elements to really get behind and feel good about regardless of the game's outcome. I just don't think that this club is poised to be championship calibur with our players, coaches, management and ownership right now. But I feel like there are some great players in place that could get us there in a few years after a regime change.

Me too...

Semantics! -
Good deal! I keep thinking about getting my MBA...but I get scared off losing too much of my already far too little free time! Hopelly this new position will springboard you into the mgmt slot you're hoping for!

Seems too logical for this club to pursue...

Really? Would that include a firearms class? All kidding aside... Holt is 32 and his last 2 years' stats are: 2007 1,189 yds 7 td's 2008 796 yds 3 td's (on one of the worst team in the NFL) 2 year span 1,985 yds 10 tds, 62 yds a game, 1 td every 3 games Harrison: 2007 247 yds 1td 2008 636 yds 5 tds (on one of the best teams in the NFL) 2 year span 883 yds 6 td's, 55 yds a game, 1 td every 5 games Granted Harrison was injured. But isn't that the point? he's a 36 year old man that is obviously declining in skill... Don't get me wrong, compared to the frauds we have, I'd take Harrison in a heartbeat! But, if given a choice, Holt is the way to go.

Yet, the only team w/o an "according to Hoyle" WR has no interest...

Would I be so bold to say the vast majority of us here are collectively holding our breath? I won't we don't turn blue!
-
Evil... That's my first thought about the McCaskeys! They are purposefully sabbotaging the city's best loved team!
-
I generally agree... However, I think some mgmts may see getting a "top" RB as a better marketing move (ie. Reggie Bush). It's a lot flashier than OL... And avoids the "Mandrich" fear syndrome.
-
Ha! No arguement there! (I still tracked "fair" as a "bust" in my informal stats....) I'd love to see that stats on that too! I think you're assumptions sound logical.

My condolences! Thankfully it's a secure job though! But no, I never worked the public sector. When I was in college (many moons ago...I graduated in '93), public was pushed on us so hard, that I rebelled against it. Not to mention, I wanted to work in the music business... So I went right into the private sector. Keeping contact w/ many collleagues through the years, we noticed that my salary was higher in the private sector initially and gradually rose pretty evenly. Wheareas the public guys started off lower, then had a big jump. 10-15 years later, we're all in the same boat barring the handful that went for MBA's... Some doing much better, some not so much. Although the CPA can open a few more doors, generally direct experience is what usually opens the most doors I've found. Are you in public or private?

Thank you for your years of service on the team Mr. Tait!

I'd probably agree with that assessment not knowing true stats. My gut feeling is that RB's probalby pan out at a higher %-age than other positions. Not Sanders/Brown/Payton kind of guys, but workman-like guys like Thomas Jones.... Since 2000: 2000: Jamal Lewis, T. Jones , Dayne (bust), S. Alexander, Candidate (bust) 60% 2001: LT, McAlister, Bennett (bust) 67% 2002: Wm. Green (bust). Ducket (fair), 0% 2003: mcGahee, LJ, 100% 2004: S Jackson, Chris Perry (bust), Kevin Jones (fair) 33% 2005: Brown, Benson (bust), Williams (fair), 33% 2006: Bush, Maroney (fair) , D. Williams, Aaadi 75% 2007: AP, Lynch, 100% 2008: McFadden (looks OK, bad team), Stewart (looks very good), Jones (good), Mendenhall (?), Chris Johnson (good) 80% Overall in the span, 18 good, 11 bust or fair 62%...that's pretty good.

Damn...that's kind of sad. -
You're 100% correct about the revenue stream...they basically have a pretty solid 5 year projection that most companies would dream of...
-
I'm an accountant... 1. Profit is profit regardless. It is that revenue which exceeds normal costs of business. It can get a little tricky in terms of depreciation and other things, but generally speaking, it's used as figure after everything. Otherwise you use terms like Gross Margin (Earnings after Cost of Sales), EBITDA (Earnings before Income Tax and Depreciation and Amortization), etc.... In general, profit is pure profit... Although, as your discussion have proven, it's sometimes used a little too loosely. 2. I'm not a stock analyst, but a tremendous profit point for many businesses is 5% (at least in the entertainment industry where I work...and I imagine sports is similar). That would mean in your example, anything above and beyond $12M in profit for a company pulling in revenues of $241M is quite good. 9% is quite phenominal... Again, if we are talking true profit. 3. A loss is also a possible loss only on paper. You could be cash rich and have a loss due to depreciation of assets. Without really seeing the Income Stmt and Balance Sheets, it's a little tough to really tell. But, my gut feeling, is that these teams are making boat-loads. The media revenue is silly regardless of what their operating costs are...
