OK, let me play some scenarios out for you... Laurinaitis becomes a potential pick if (and keep in mind, there are a lot of "if's" involved) 1. The Bers tank the season, becasue he is going high on the board. 2. Urlacher shows signs of breaking down...or Briggs similarly. 3. And/or, there are no other clear cut beter players at the OL or QB or WR. Also, you make mention of LB depth...I personally do not see that depth, can you expound? We have only 2 real studs in Url and Briggs. Hunter is servicable, but not great. Who exactly is backing them up that you are so confident in?

I also read Tyler Reed is gone too...

I tend not to like Hub, but that doesn't mean he isn't right! I really have a bad feeling this will haunt us...
-
Yeah, but that could quickly turn into... "We shouldn't have cut Hass! He'd have made the catch!"

Bears to let go WR Hass By Brad Biggson August 29, 2008 12:55 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Wide receiver Mike Hass, the Biletnikoff Award winner, has been informed he will be released. Hass was with the team all last season and dressed for just one game. He spent the 2006 season on the practice squad.

James Laurinaitis, the next great Lithuanian American linbacker since Dick Butkus... I may have some slight bias. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Laurinaitis

Yeah, his poise is commendable.

Sign him up! His sister is kind of a tramp though...

I do follow the logic on cheap though. The team basically had a gun to its head re-signing Lovie after the SUper Bowl. And we did take yet another coordinator over some HC's that would have cost far more for his first few years. Given the nature of the cap, the team spends on players. But given the opportunity, I'm not quite convinced the McCaskey's aren't cheap on infrastructue. I don't really know enough to be certain...but history tends to repeat itself. This is the same ownership...until that changes, I will assume nothing changes...and that included cheapness. I think a team can still be cheap in admin, and competitive in team salary (mostly due to how th NFL is now set up).

Agreed... We have too many questions stemming from last year without a single answer up to this point. Can a switch just be flipped? Maybe. Possibly. If we were talking about the Pats, I'd say most definitely. Us, I'm not so sure. I'm willing to give some benefit of the doubt. But, next we will have the excuse that we played a tought Colts team, then a tough Carolina team, etc... This D was elite. I just don't understand the enormous drop off even with injuries... When I can't find a distinct reason, the buck stops at the coaches.

Even watching the grass grow beats working on a Sunday! OT or not!

I still want Laurinaitis! But all (quasi) kidding aside, it just depends so much... I'm holding for Laurinaitis becuase I fear Urlacher won't be reliable too much longer.

I hear ya! I have the same...

I just hope if Obama does get in that he doesn't become part of the machine. He's already sold personal rights down the river allowing wire-tapping without warrants and is talking up using force against Russia. That rhetoric sounds too much like the right... I hope we don't get more of the same with a different book cover...

Bold statement...I can't say I disagree.

You're right. I don't see any specific languange. I think I just read into it too much.

But I just read that DM is the nickel back... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-08...0,7025308.story chicagotribune.com Lovie Smith banks on Danieal Manning at nickel back By Vaughn McClure Tribune reporter August 28, 2008 If the Bears intend to end their experiment with Danieal Manning at nickel back, coach Lovie Smith didn't get the memo. He seems adamant Manning will remain in that role, contrary to reports. "Danieal has received reps at only one position this entire year, and that's nickel," Smith said earlier this week. "Once we get in a game, could he be an emergency safety? Yes, he could. But he's playing nickel and that's where he's going to be." In other words, expect Manning to be the first extra defensive back on the field in Thursday night's exhibition finale at Cleveland. The Bears plan to rest their starters, but getting Manning as many reps at possible in game situations will help him when the regular season opens. The Bears released Ricky Manning Jr., who had the position last season. Brandon McGowan and undrafted rookie free agent Trey Brown have been the only other players getting looks there. Manning Jr. expects his cousin Manning to find a comfort zone at the position. "Danieal is coming along," Manning Jr. said. "The nickel spot takes a long time. I played it ever since I was rookie. It just takes awhile."

So true. I think he was bashed about quite a bit a few years back, but I am hearing him on the Dan Patrick show and many other national ones as well. I think I actually first heard him on the Tom Leykis show in LA. I started going to his site immediately afterwards. Plus, I think he has a slight bias agasint Brett Favre! I just love that!

I do think Fox breaks a lot, but dang if Florio's PFT doesn't break a ton. Granted, the shoot and miss...but their track record isn't nearly as bad as soom would think.

That's classic!

I do follow your logic. But overall, it not just the losing season...it's "how". Sure Cowher had 2 losing seasons. But only after having 6 straight winning ones (11-5, 9-7, 12-4, 11-5, 10-6, and 11-5). I think that gets him a little more wiggle room than most others. Getting back to the "how"...even in those bad years, his teams were playing hard and strong. And from the best of my recolection, he made halftime adjustments. I did not see that happen last year. And, even in our good year with Lovie, I did not see any half time adjustments. He appears to go into a game with a plan ...and damn the torpedoes...that's the plan doggonit! Fisher has only has his team in the playoff 5 or 13 years. About 40% Lovie has had the Bears in 2 of 4 years. If he has another, he'll be right at about 40% as well. People bring up Fisher for the obvious reason, he was a former Bear. But also, because he has a fire and respect of his players. Given that we just got over Jauronamatron...and now Lovie...it's almost as though the city has been lulled to sleep and are yearning for some energy. The grass is always greener... I just think many of the moves he's made on the roster and staff, his lack of adaptability, his steadfastness to cover-2, the abundance of penalties, and poor mechanics (QB, tackiling, etc) put him in question. If we see more of the same, many will be calmmoring for an ousting. Could the success of the past few years, especially given the dominance of the D really be a good hangover from Jauron? No one talks about how great Siefert is. He inherited a SF team that cake-walked into trophies. I don't really think so...but it is an intriguing question. Injuries or not, our fall from grace was about as hard and as painful as I've ever seen for any team.

Just trust Lovie. NOT!

I do follow... But I think Harris was light years better than RMJ. I think they are sticking with Daniel because he was drafted high and still hope he can turn into something good. I'm still willing to give him some more time... But I've not been pleased ads many here feel the same if not more so.

It certainly increases our chances!
