I'd tend to agree. It's not like Gruden (at least as a head coach) was developing talent in Oakland and TB...both his QB's were serious vets in Gannon and Johnson...
-
He has to sport a lot more rings if he were pullin' a Joe Montana... One and a loss don't cut it...
-
Agreed! Kudos to Butkus!

I'd tend to agree. They sounds pissed off from what I've read. Let him languish on the bench after flip flopping more than a politician about his playing days...
-
Sned him to Arizona!

I think you may have your terminology mixed up... The guy you're thining about is more commonly called a "short yardage" back. Let's say a Zack Crockett. Whereas a "3rd down back" is more of a guy dealing with a 3rd and long. Like a Dave Megget type of guy. That's why people are constantly referring to Wolfe as a 3rd down back...

I didn't think of letting Ogun go...good point.

No real agrument agasint your points. For Clark, maybe I can dream of our inept staff actually using 2 TE sets! I actually think Clark is one of our better receivers... Or maybe he'll start playing the back-up role... Or maybe he'll take time away from Olsen. I think there's overall benefit in having him though. Agred on Brown with the 2 years already on his contract. But, I think we need the depth deperately at end. Brown may not be Dent, but he's pretty consistently decent. It keep sus from over-paying for a FA veteran, and adds more credence to the "we take care of our own" philosophy. I won't disagree with your argument...but nor do I have a real issue with him being extended. I like your post SB assessment...but bottom line, the money wasn't spent on guys I deem are hinderences (um...Grossman, Miller, etc..).
-
You make a good arguement for those 2, but I also see no overall harm. We're still somewhat waiting for Olsen to breakout...and we are still also waiting for Anderson or Bazuin or someone young to breakout. Overall, I really like the philosophy. Keep your own. Once in a while you may keep a guy or 2 that maybe aren't the best, but it sends a very good message to the overall club, that the organization will take care of you. We're already seen some fruits of that, I expect to see more and more...

Agreed...read anything coming from the Bears camp as staright up PR. It's no different than governmental press conferences. They tell you what they want you to hear, not necesarrily the reality of the situation.

Side note, what's the cap space at the moment?

Looking at big picture, Grossman starting small

Be honest, the small hands don't help...and how do you account for the all the botched snaps? And don't say Kruetz...Jim Miller never had that problem. I stand corrected on my Jason Taylor comment. But I still think Rex's poor visibility, poor pocket pressence, and gunslinger mentality are big liabilities. I think Rex had had enough time to "learn" it...I think he just doesn't have it by now. Orton, since we don't know a whole about, there is hope for. I'm not saying bet the house, I'm just saying it's at least worth a $1 on a lottery ticket. -

I hate to flog a dead horse...but saying that Rex has the best out pattern in the NFL is just off-putting. His out pattern to Jason Taylor a few years back wasn't exactly Johnny Unitas-like. His deep ball can be nice, but it can also flutter. There isn't a consistency in his game. To be considered good, you have to be consistent. Rex is just all over the map. And maybe the bigger picture is that even if I give you the accuracy thing, it really matters not. He has shown he cannot get it done under pressure. And he is VERY turnover prone...from picks, to fumbles to bobbled snaps. I already feel my blood pressure rising just thinking of all his big time blunders. I like the kid as a person, but not as an NFL QB. -

DABEARSDABOMB, I've watched every single game Rex has played and I'm not overly impressed with his accuracy. Far more other QB's in the league impress me more. I just think you keep putting yourself out on a limb...you say that VERY FEW passers in the lague can make throws Rex can (in a good way)? I'd say there are quite a few... I guess we'll just agree to disagree... You seem to see an accuracy that I just do not. -

I still do not buy that he is a very accurate pure passer. I suppose virtually any QB without pressure, and make some impressive throws. But, that doesn't count for much other than a silly competition in Hawaii one a year. I just see no basis where you can' thnk he's VERY accurate. -
Jason, For the most part I agree with you. Although he'd probably be the best QB since Luckman if he were with us, something about having Favre on the team just makes me ill. Granted, once he wore the uni, etc...my nausea would probably clear up, but I agree that I've spent too many years truly dispising the player. While I gave Rodman ad an example of a player loathed, then cherished by Chicagoans...it's not the same. I catully hated Laimbeer and THomas far more than Rodman. I could see myself really railing agasint those 2 far more than I did with Rodman. As I mentioned, I root for the uni and even if it's our biggest enemy of all time in it, I'd root it on. But I sure as heck agree that I wouldn't dream of buying the jersey. I only buy ones that I think are or will be Bears legends. At best Favre would just be a mercenary for a year or 2.

I am perplexed. Rex may be more accurate than Orton, even though I don't feel we've seen enough of Orton to appropriately make that call. But, I cannot call Rex a VERY VERY accurate passer. Marino was a VERY VERY accurate passer. Joe Montana was a VERY VERY accurate passer. You can ask Jason Taylor how accurate he is as he hit him right on the numbers against Miami a few years ago. Sorry, but there's no way I can remotely buy an arguement that Rex is a VERY VERY accurate passer. Just last year alone his accuracy was rated 32 out of 33. Even Tavaris Jackson is rated higher! http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?arc...amp;Submit=Find -
That's the millions dallor questions for sure... I'd honestly say it's Tommie at this point iin the game. He appears to be poised to make a run at being the "team vocal leader". However, on the field is another thing... I just hope Steltz is a VERY good student. If he's likened to the great Plank, then I'm holding out some hope. As you pretty much state, no one else on the roster seems capable of it at the moment.

Agreed... Deeds not words in the least. He whined a bit, and viola! He was in camp doing everything he should. Until he actually "holds out", getting upset at the man seems just odd, if not downright silly.
-
I think it'll still be Urlacher. The average run of the mill fan dictates these kinds of things, and until he's truly supplanted or retires, Urlacher will be the face of the team. We can argue whether he's the leader,etc...but regardless, the average joe public thinks Urlacher is the Bears.
-
Amen to that!
-
Very true I think. He's been the key for every year. All I keep thinking of is when he called out the team after the Browns game all those years ago... He is the tue leader of the D I think. We need to hop, as you've mentioned, that one of the new keys can really learn from him.
-
It wouldn't be a comeback... He has to be away for a season for it to be so. If he comes back, he'll be a good tackling dummy.
-
I fully agree! But, if the helmet changes, so does my attitude about a player! I hated Rodman, then I loved him. I will always hate the Pistons regardless. But the point is moot as you mention....
-
I do agree with you about development. But even if blame needs to get placed on the coaches, I think the damage is done. I personally just don't think Rex has the intangibles. He doesn't have "pocket presence". And I don't think that's something that's learnable. You either have it or you don't. I think JA is all over tha map. He's had his fair share of hits and misses all over the map. However, I just think when you whiff on the 1st and 2nd round picks, it really hurt an organization far more. And yes, we need more offense help in some form or another!
