I completely follow your train of thinking... I just think that there are certain things we can assess about Benson when he had a better line and when he had a poor line... I've personally seen enough and I want a change to something potentially better.

Being a fan for 37 + years... I've sen enough from enough guys to get a vibe on them. Feel free to bash me, but certain players exude a heart and ethic, some don't. From my experience, Benson appears to be one of those that doesn't. Haven't you seen it? Payton was one and Enis was not, just as one example. I'll be a pig in slop if he proves me wrong. But, right now...he has to prove me wrong. So far he's done nothing but prove me right. There is virtually nothing in his body of prefssional work that makes me think he can be relied upon right now.

I know you are obsessed with the O-line, and it does need some obsessing over. I hear you there... But again, I think you're thinking Benson is something he isn't. He is Ricky Williams without the talent and health. I can rattle off dozens of players that had crazy records in college only to amount to jack in the NFL. Benson is one of them. Apparently you are, but I cannot feel good relying on this guy. If Mendenhall or McFadden (yeah, right) are avialable in the 1st, I would take them. You probably would take an OL. Odds are Jerry will do neither...

I'm in comploete agreement. While I wouldn't balk at getting an OL if he were the bpa and a virtual lock at being good...but I'd rather go about it in FA. There are decent guys still to be had. nfo and I went around on this a while back.

I'm all for helping the O-line...but don't think we have something we don't in Benson. The guy has no work ethic and is injury prone. He cannot be relied upon. If you don't want Medenhall, that's all good. But we best draft a RB.

Good points... I just can't see any surprises on offfense at the moment. Dusty and Payne would be my surprises as well. And I agree that I'm not sure Dusty qualifies...but Payne did see more time on the filed than he did in the regular I think.

I'm glas the era is over! He's been a great competitor and a sure fire hall of famer...but, I for one, am glad he's hanging it up! Kudos Mr, Favre...see you in Canton.

Just because we've had a bad run of luck drafting RB's high in recent history, doesn't mean you just stop doing it. If a quality guys comes our way, we need him. I like Mendenhall a lot. He's no more a risk than any OL...or any player for that matter. The O line will improve I'm sure. I don't think we're done in FA yet...

Feel free to rain... It's justified. I'm very concerned myself. Your "ideal" is just about the same as mine...

I hear ya. I think the reason some are so harsh here is because we care too much! It's like how you're harder on your own kid, than someone else's! I also think last season really left a bad taste in a lot of folks' mouth. After consecutive good and playoff seasons, the team really regressed. You can only blame injury so much...and maybe it was the SB loser curse. But, I think overall, that's why so many here are disillusioned at the moment. Thankfully, winning changes everything!

I'm not blaming the media, like a desperate politician. However, is it me, or no matter what, the Bears (and I'm just talking ownership, management, and coaches)look like morons in the press. Much of it I believe is deserved, however there's some of it that just seems like it's prepetuating a non-existant myth. The only good thing you hear about the organization is Hester. Much of it obviously deserved. I think it does make a good story, especially when the team's record is what it was last season. As much as the media loves the Pat's, it seems like they bash teams like the Raiders, Lion, Caridnals, Bengals and Bears regardless. I'm necessarily "tired of hearing it", etc... I mean, if you can't win big games, and haven't won a championship in 25+ years, you deserve to get thrashed a bit. I guess my question is...is the organization that bad over the past 25 years? Seems to me they are either by bad luck or bad decisions.... And until we show consistently that we aren't a "flash in the pan" once in a while, we will continue to have that perception.

I'd say it's probably true... And I'm sure that was the quasi-assumption he'd be gone. I think JA went through the motions to try to keep him...but knew it wasn't going to happen.
