  1. I forgot whi mentioned it...but JA tends to strike fast. Given that we've not done anything yet...it probalby means we aren't going to do much in FA. I could be wrong...but it would appear that's how it's chaking out to be. Maybe he's waiting on the spending spree, and then will cherry pick. But, it is frustrating nonetheless.
  2. We should definitley look at Neal, even though he's up there in years. I say bring in Olivea and keep Tait at left... We just would need to draft a guard then.
  3. I'm sold. No reason to blast logic. I'd also consider Bruce now that the Rams dumped him.
  4. Good points CHile! I always like your optimism! Even from my somewhat pessimistic view, it's not lost. We may be quasi-rebuilding. But it's not lost. If we can get a legit RB, shore up the O line, get some kind of vet WR, and have our secondary healthy and Arthuletta free, we can compete. Qb is a question mark. I personally do not like or trust Rex, but I think Orton can be a good manager given the chance. I think the overall goal will be to get back to prime form ina season...but we can do much better than last year and at least resonably vie for a playoff berth. NY did it.
  5. I don't think we have that much wrapped up in Benson at the moment. I think his deal was more front loaded. Can anyone confirm?
  6. I'm not Berrian is worth that kind of loot. I'd love to keep him, but if he wants that kind of money, I wish him well in Washington...
  7. Good list... Here are some others: Good: Vermeil, Coughlin, Gruden, Shula, Shanahan Bad: Ditka (NO), Erickson (SF), Jimmy Johnson (MIA), Dave Wandstedt (MIA), Jauron (BUF), Knox (SEA), Vermeil (KC), Shell (OAK, 2nd time), Seifert (CAR), Schottenheimer (WAS, SD), Turner (OAK, SD), Holmgren (SEA), Seems to be more bad than good...
  8. I've heard some folks bring up Volek...I think that would have been interesting. But with Rex signed, I don't think it makes sense.
  9. gordon, congrats on your first post! Glad to have you in the mix! I love that mock! I've been high on Mendenhall for a while now...
  10. nfo, I hear ya. I also have the same scary feeling with the future. I don't think I've been shy stating I don not like our coaching staff top to bottom barring Toub. I follow your take on Angelo as well. I'll give him defensive credit, but his offensive mind leaves a bit to be desired. I have some small faith that Angelo can make some breakthroughs, he's tried. I just don't have any of that faith in the coaches.
  11. I agree, except about getitng McNabb. I'd nab him if we could. I just like him. But, I fully understand wanting not to. I think you're spot on with the "plan". Just curious, why don't you like the plan? What would you prefer they do?
  12. I hear ya. My gut feeling is same as yours and that Briggs'll be gone. I also agree on Berrian. I think it's more of a chance he'll stay than Briggs. I still think we'll probably get out-bid, and he'll go fot the money...but it wouldn't surprise me if he stuck around. Maybe not tagging him may give him warm fuzzies, and give us a hometown discount.
  13. Agreed. Had the option come before last season, I would have said yes. But we know more now...and knowing is half the battle.
  14. I really don't want Carr. He's not shown me anything, especially recently. When they're asking Vinny to come back from the old folks home to play QB, it speaks volumes. I'd much rather continue on with Griese. But I think Griese will be gone, and we'll draft a QB. Rex and Orton will fight for the starter spot (which will be given to Rex after so-called "competition"), Orton will back-up and the youngster will be 3rd learning the ropes.
  15. I agree. I'm all for cutting the bum. However, maybe we could trade him for a 6th or 7th... At least we get something. Send him to Denver, the land of misfit RB's...
  16. So is the translation...? "Dumb luck and non-offensive minded GM's"
  17. True... I just think the move is too little too late at this point in theory or in practice. That's what I was thinking...SF is just laying low due to their indescretion.
  18. I think you're right. If you remove Ditka, who was a TE's coach with Landry in Dallas before getting the Bears gig, it's been all D to my knowledge. But, yeah, all your points seem to lead to some diysfunction on offense. Maybe Angelo's pick for Grossman and the earlier McNown could be stated as a positives in that direction. But, there didn't seem to be any coaching set in place to help those picks (bad or not). It could just be dumb luck,etc... But, in the grand scheme, what can we do? Other than boycott...but I know personally I just can't stop watching. I might stop buying product, but I'll always watch.
  19. Interesting, PFT is claiming SF is backing off. Not that they've ever been wrong....
  20. There's mention that SF isn't interested in Briggs. I figure it to be a smokescreen since they will get their hands slapped by the NFL soon I imagine. If true, I suppose it increases the chances of our singing him. They also mention the possibility of the Bears trading for Warner in their note on Orton. Sounds like an interesting possibility...that probably should have happened years ago, and not now. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm
  21. Great analysis on Benson, Chile. I think you're spot on. This guy lives in a non-reality (probably a similar Shangri-La as Ricky Williams...). But he seems to have the Bears by the short and curlies. Until I see it, I think he'll be given the #1 spot yet again... This coaching staff like talking big about competition, yet rarely does it.
  22. How about Woodyard? I know he's listed as a LB, but it seems with his lack of size, and good speed. He could be a good fit. Granted his hands aren't superb...but I think he can tackle. Something Archeletta and Manning know very little about...
