  1. Interesting! As Mark Twain once said, "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics."
  2. I am glad you're consistent! Otherwise arguing with you would be frustrating! But, I believe I, and many others, are also being consistent. I don't like when teams run up scores in certain fashion...much like the Pats did. But, I also have no issue with them doing it. I agree, if you don't like it, stop them. I just think that typoe of activity (running up the score) makes it far easier for the other team to cheap shot someone. It creates a very hostile envirnment in an already violent game. I was honeswtly surprised no one tried to take out Brady this year because of that. If I were a coach, I'd basically do what Ditka would do. Run the ball and put in the second team to give them reps. Your'e prepping your team for future games and getting reps in your rushing attack. If you keep scoring, so be it. But, that's me.
  3. You're talking semantics. The goal is to win every game and blow your opponents out 90-0. And sweep the playoffs and Super Bowl. Obviously, that doesn't happen all that often as the Patriots proved. There are tiny goals that lead to the big, eventual goal. You must have a plan. But the bottom line is that it's SUper Bowl or bust. Whether you have a 3 year plan or 1 year plan. I never said there are no smaller goals...I just said that compared to the goal of winning a super bowl, it's irrelevant. You cannot win the Super Bowl unless you win games. I honestly can't see how you'd think someone saying I'm disappointed in not getting the Super Bowl is a mental weakness? If you don't shoot for the stars you won't reach the stars. Brady can hug his AFC trophy all he wants, I'd be pissed off. I sure hope the Bears aren't thrilled happy campers that they have the NFC trophy. Yeah, it's nice. But the goal wasn't achieved. It's like getting the box of Rice a Roni on the game show instead of winning the million dollars. Saying you're thrilled with a dinner side dish over potential retirement is just silly! Mentionined the statements players give is completely irrelevant. They are coached to say the politically correct thing. Few speak their minds, and those few usually get bashed for it in the media. As a fan, it'd be great to hear what they thought, but it just won't happen unless you personally know a player. Again, if a team doesn't care about every game, they won't have even a remote chance for the Super Bowl. That's simply step one of the larger goal of winning the Super Bowl.
  4. Isn't the objective to win the Super Bowl? Yeah, if you win your division, it good, because you are going to the playoffs which could get you in the SUper Bowl. Winning the conference is great because it gives you the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. etc. Some teams can have small goals. And that can help them during the season, and bad teams can take solace in achieving certain goals. But great teams want to win the Super Bowl and nothing else is important. I don't want the Bears to be mediocre, I want them to be great. I'm not happy with anything but a Super Bowl win. I can look back at this past season and say it was fun to watch Hester and great to sweep Green Bay...but this year SUCKED! The team and coaching was awful and disgraceful! In football, every game is important...otherwise you won't have a record good enough to make it to the Super Bowl. Yes, they are important...but it pales by comparison to winning the Super Bowl.
  5. I read that today as well. I just disagree with Haugh. I think he's grasping at straws. Let's be honest, that O -line, running game etc was pretty dang good when we were in the SB. Granted, the D was hurting, but we were in position to win. Rex had time, and threw a miserable pass to the defense. Eli didn't. Yeah, it's only one play. But, it's one hell of an important one.
  6. I hear ya. I still disagree on Rex. Eli looks to have gotten smarter on the field, whereas Rex appears to be getting dumber. I can question his height, small hands, and lack of pocket presence...but that's it for his physical skills. But Rex's biggest weaknees is his noggin. I just don't see him getting smarter overnight. You have to admit, Eli came in far more ready (he was the #1 overall pick, no?). I just don't see it happening with Rex...but I can see something happening with Kyle. He plays far smarter. I think he can grow into his physical skills...kind of like what Brady did.
  7. Exactly. Everything before this game is just a warm up...
  8. Count me in with you Hester... I like him now. He showed moxie. And he beat a team I hated!
  9. That's just about what I did... I dropped SF, PIT and MIA low... Looks good though!
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnatio...1&listId=91 This one, looks like it's falling right into place!
  11. No worries! That sounds much more reasonable!
  12. I was wrong...and am very glad I was!
  13. Good points, but the D didn't go 85 yards with 2 1/2 minutes to go...Eli and the offense did. The D got them in position to win, but it required great O to do it. THinking Rex is better than Eli just doesn't sound right. I think you are wrong. Rex crumbled under pressure, Eli didn't. Your comparison is unfair to Manning, and I think is just plain wrong. Bottom line, you still need a top notch QB to win...I don't think we have one on staff at the moment. But I could be wrong about Orton if he's given the chance.
  14. Exactly! The last thing we need to to transfer perfection from one group of poor sports to another. We've dealt with the Fins for 35 years...a few more while we wait for the Bears to do it isn't that big a deal!
  15. I also worry about durability. I think Wes can take a shot better than Devin...
  16. Thanks for the post! Quite interesting! Can't say I agree...but I don't think I'd be dis-satisfied.
  17. The concept of "cheating" floated around the room where I saw the game. Many mentioned that is was odd that when they won (assuming with tapes), were by 3 points, and when they lost (assuming without tapes), was a 3 point loss. I know the numbers aen't exact, but the overall concept is there. Did they indeed get help with tapes in the past? It's sure to be a hop item once the hoopla dies down and Goodell, and the guy from Hawaii meet with Sen. Arlen...

    Dent

I see it as more east coast bias. But I am glad to finally see Monk get in. It's ridiculous how long it's taken for that guy.
  19. Hester! Lay down the pipe! There's no guarantee of him retiring at all. Where did you get that info? The Bears can easily win with Urlacher. It's other positions and personnell that are hurting this club...like QB and WR.
  20. Unfortunately, we don't appear very good at either running or passing at the moment. My bet is with running. We've certainly had more success over time running than passing. But, maybe that's the case that's needed to say go with a passing OL... I tend to like monsters though... Otah looks like as good a bet as any.
  21. ...and the Giants did a decent job as well.
