  1. Dolphins | G. Wilson agrees to terms

    Thu, 26 Feb 2009 04:16:20 -0800

Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with free-agent S Gibril Wilson (Raiders). Terms of the deal are not yet available.

One less Safety to choose from.

Panthers | Gross agrees to terms

    Thu, 19 Feb 2009 10:49:18 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with OT Jordan Gross on a six-year deal worth just under $60 million, according to a source. Gross will be paid $30.5 million in the first three years on the contract.

  3. I'm not disagreeing with his facts.

I'm disagreeing with the fact that he thinks that trading out of the first is a dumb idea. For this franchise, it is not. The facts are that Angelo doesn't exactly prove his worth in the first round. To pick up 2 more second rounders + a 3rd would be huge, IMO.

What your actually saying is that you want to take a statically lesser chance at getting an impact player, proven by statical facts, then having a mathimatically proven odds advantage at finding the next gem in the draft.

  4. I didn't say trade down in the 1st (McNown, Haynes, Grossman), I said trade down into the 2nd round.

You're contradicting yourself. You're saying that the further we pick down, the less talent there is. Not true. Does that mean if San Diego would have traded down instead of taking Ryan Leaf, that would have been a bad choice because there was talent there that wasn't going to be there further down? No. I could definitley make a case that this year's 2nd round will be better then the 1st, but we'll obviously disagree.

How am I contradicting myself? That statement makes ZERO sense. That percentages, I know it's difficult to understand, that you would be getting an impact are higher in the upper portion of the draft then in the later parts because there are more impact type players available. How can players in the 2nd round be better then the ones in the first? The players in the 2nd round werent graded high enough by scouts to be picked in the 1st round. So you would be correct that I would disagree that the 2nd round players wouldn't be better then the 1st round players. That is just goofy.

  5. Diluted pool? What guy who has a chance to be there at 18 do you look at and say "He will be a beast for us"?

Sanchez, Orakpo, Brown, A. Smith, J. Smith, Jenkins, Monroe, and Raji will all be long gone before 18.

Plus, this is a deep draft class so the talent in the 2nd round will be pretty good. To have 3 seconds and 3 thirds would be outstanding. In the 2nd, we could get a good RG (Urbik), a good RT (Tupou), and a possession WR who is the most ready WR IMO coming out this year (Robiskie).

Not to mention JA picks better in the 2nd-4th round then he does in the 1st.

Oh I'm sorry. Rex Grossman and Michael Haynes worked out well, as did Daniel Manning. Cade McClown anyone? When people are picked in the draft, they are no longer available to be picked by other teams, therefore the talent level with which to pick from has less talent to choose from. We had this discussion a few years back and the statistical percentages of busts to nonbusts later in the draft doesn't warrant trading down. Just cuz you have more picks, doesn't change the statistical chances each time you pick of gettting an impact player.

  6. Read the following comments from Turner in the Sun Times,

Turner told his boss in no uncertain terms that Orton is the man to run the Bears' offense.

''I feel great about Kyle,'' Turner said. ''Get him a good supporting cast, some people around him, and he can be a really great player. He played that way a lot this past year. If there is a veteran out there that can come in and provide some depth and possibly provide some competition, fine. But we feel good about Caleb [Hanie], too.''

Contrast that w/ comments Angelo made earlier. Angelo gave everyone the impression he was far from satisified w/ Orton, and was actually looking to replace him. Angelo said it is not about the OL or WRs, but all about the QB, leading most to believe Angelo felt our offensive issues were due to Orton, and not the other units. These are not just my interpretation of Angelo's comments, but what most came away w/, and in fact, Angelo has since had to try and backpeddle and clarify.

But you really have to wonder. Turner saying, "get him a good supporting cast" seems to highlight his believe that our "weapons" are frankly, lacking. Turner in another article stressed the teams need to get a playmaker. Turner seems to believe the Bears have a legit QB in Orton, but also feels we lack weapons at WR. That comes as little shock to any here, but how much are Turner and Angelo on the same page.

I don't know, but I do think it will be interesting to see how this offseason plays out. How much pull does Turner have? If our moves to upgrade the offense are minimal, or if we draft a QB relatively high, while not addressing WR, it would seem to me Turner has absolutely no sway w/ Angelo or Lovie. If however, we make a big spash on offense, whether that be in FA or the draft, maybe Turner does have some clout.

Maybe this is simply the norm in the NFL, but since the end of our season, it just doesn't really feel like Angelo, Lovie and/or Turner are on the same page. Turner is screaming for playmakers and to surround Orton w/ a good supporting cast. Angelo says its all about the QB, and implies our offensive problems begin and end there. Lovie turns around and seems to backup Orton. Maybe this is just me reading too much into "offseason BS talk, which is quite possible, but it just doesn't feel like our coaches and GM are on the same page. Felt the same way some years ago w/ Angelo and Jauron, but that was supposed to be fixed w/ Lovie. Now I wonder if we are not yet again in a situation where the GM and coaches vision fails to matchup.

Which brings up the question is the GM listening to the coaches needs to put together a team or is he so arrogant he thinks his sh*& dont stink and what he feels must be right period. Which opens a whole nother can of worms...

  7. John Jurkovic, former DT for Green Bay/Jacksonville/Cleveland, had the injury and he does radio in Chicago and he says he had the same injury and it's practically impossible to come back from and be your old self again.

If that is true the braintrust running the show here gave Tommie a contract making him one of the highest paid DL in the NFL and that speaks volumes...

  8. OMFG! The chicken little brigade, led by NFO, King Chicken, is at it again...

PS. I do/did think the Babich dual role was ridiculous until I found out that Lovie was going to step into a more active role there. I agree with those that say Lovie should've gotten off his ass faster during the season. But that's an opinion based on nothing but a guess that he didn't. Nobody here knows if he was a lot more involved in the late season game plans for the D. NOBODY. And we had a pretty good run at the end of the year until the last game... After Brown was hurt.

Actually per Lovie's own words in the Sun Times we have pretty good idea how involved he was

"I have been involved a little bit,'' Smith said this afternoon on a teleconference. "My involvement will be a lot more now.

  9. BEARS HIRE HOKE TO COACH SECONDARY

Posted by Aaron Wilson on January 13, 2009, 12:01 p.m.

The Chicago Bears announced today that they have hired former Houston Texans assistant Jon Hoke as their new secondary coach, replacing Steve Wilks.

Hoke coached the Texans’ defensive backs for the past seven seasons after a three-year stint as the University of Florida’s defensive coordinator/secondary coach.

Hoke held the title of assistant head coach during his final two years in Gainesville, Fla. He also has coached at Missouri, Kent State, Bowling Green and San Diego State

The new job brings Hoke back to the Windy City where the former Ball State player played 11 games for the Bears in 1980 and posted seven tackles.

  10. Bears | Babich to have added responsibility this season

    Tue, 13 Jan 2009 11:12:37 -0800

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Bob Babich will also serve as the linebackers coach this coming season.

Ya because he did such a good job as the DC that they figured he had way to much time on his hands so he can teach the LB's as well.

  11. Oh yes, I forgot. If we back up the truck to anyone and drop money, it works. Silly me.

Apparently the bears front office is able to reschedule free agent visits for any player at any time.

face it, the guy saw a situation where he was going to thrive and jumped on it. No other team in the NFL had a chance, Brees wanted to be a saint. This fantasy situation that you are somehow hanging on the bears is ridiculous

Actually there were only 2 teams that showed any serious interest in Brees and those teams were the Saints AND Dolphins. BOTH teams had contacted him but Miami decided to go with Culpepper and Brees went, interviewed, then signed with the Saints. If the Bears had put any serious interest in him I am sure he may have listened before making his decision.

  12. Per KFFL they haven't even offered him a contract

Bears | Team has not offered contract to Marinelli

    Wed, 07 Jan 2009 15:25:08 -0800

Contrary to a previous report, Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears have not offered a contract to former Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli to become their new defensive line coach.

  13. Even though I said I wouldn't want Marinelli as the DC, I'd rather have him their then that clown Babich. I don't know how you can sell him to the team after this season. How is it possible to keep him when our defense was hideous this year? They made no name QB's like Orlovsky look like an All Pro and Kerry Collins look like a hall of famer..

Because this organization is arrogant to a fault, believes we as fans are stupid and thinks it can sell us Pyrite as Gold.

  14. Bears | Smith to meet with Marinelli

    Fri, 02 Jan 2009 13:05:46 -0800

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith is scheduled to meet with former Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli Friday, Jan. 2, about the possibility of Marinelli joining the Bears coaching staff. Marinelli is expected to take the Bears coaching job, but his agent says there are other opportunities. "Rod has a number of opportunities and he is seeing Lovie and they're sitting down and talking. It's a visit," agent Frank Bauer said.
