Hey DBDB, Would love to help out on the new front page in regards to the Cubs. I do my best to add to the board as I am able to on talkcubs.com and always having something or another to say about the other three teams I follow and support as well.

I have to totally agree with you rational here Nfolingo in your assessment from what everyone is saying. There are still things that may still be done that we all still have no clue on. I for one have not been happy with the way drafting has been going and even wrote a letter to Mickey McCaskey when they drafted Curtis Ennis way back when. I feel that the organization is struggling to still figure out itself and decide how to produce a yearly winner. Providing glimpses of success once in a while may be acceptable to the organization however, it is the fan base that you have to work to keep them wanting to come back and to spend the money on your product. I personally do not think that they will ever get this right and we are all stuck until we all collectively decide to boycott professional sports completely. We need to hurt them where is does most and unfortunately it will not happen.

I do not think that Tim Tebow is all that as of yet. He has a better coach IMO in Urban Meyer than he would have had in Spurrier. I think that he needs another impressive season or two (since he is a junior in the fall) and we'll see what happens. Still wonder if he has been all that, why in the World did Meyer split his time up last year as a freshman. Don't you want to put the best players out there to win the game? Tebow still has a lot to prove to me. Still not happy that he won the Heisman either. I do not think he was that deserving.

I personally do not think Booty has what is takes on the next level. I am not surprised at this information as well.

This is about the only thing that I would be able to find as acceptable however, it definitely would not happen. All I know is that with signing Briggs to the big contract that they did, no one thought about how that would affect Brian. It shows once again how screwed this franchise has become. All I am able to say is that if this is some how true, they better get a lot for Brian and hope that someone is able to fill his shoes (which I doubt) and that the defense better step back up and produce once again.

For the newer members of this board, I will throw out my opinion once again that I keep getting crap for in regards to the lame QBs that we have. In regards to Rex Grossman, I have stated emphatically for someone to name a successful NFL QB that has come out of Steve Spurrier's system? You are not able to because they have all failed at this level. (Danny Wuerful, Shane Matthews just to name two). People keep stating that Grossman has the so-called talent physically however, mentality in regards to playing the game and preparation for the game, Grossman plain out sucks period, end of discussion. In regards to Orton, if you remember his senior year at Purdue, he was being touted as a Heisman Candidate and as the season went on Orton got benched. People say that he was injured however, his injuries apparently were not that severe and he just plain out sucked. The only reason he was drafted was that Ron Turner was just brought back as the OC and had coached against Orton while screwing the Illini. As Peter King and some others have said, having a QB issue that does not get addressed what so ever in the draft nor free agency tells a lot as to why this team is such a mess. Do not tell me that we went to Super Bowl XLI because of Grossman being at QB. That is not the truth, we had played far better defense and had an unGodly turnover ratio. Orton did manage games well in 2005 however, he is just a so-so journeyman at best. Jerry Angelo needs to be fired for his inability to find true talent on a consistent basis and improve this team at a position that is most vital for success. Until the McCaskey family or Ted Phillips realizes that, we are bound to struggle and keep Papa Bear spinning in his grave. Don't expect too much for the 2008 season, I am not and anything better than 8-8 (which I don't even think we will be) is just icing on the cake.

Hey DaBearsDaBomb, I am willing to contribute something to this idea on a blod. I had started one a while ago and gave it up when I got here. I am one of the moderators for talkcubs and have thoughts and opinions on Da' Bears, Da' Hawks and Da' Bulls as well. Let me know what I need to attempt to participate.

I personally like the pick up of Kellen Davis this late in the Draft. I have watched Kellen Davis closely the last year because my wife is a grad of MSU and still has season football tickets. Davis is one of the more versatile players I have seen in a while. He is big for a TE and could easily replace Clark. He has an attitude that helps him out when he is on defense and since we lost B.A. to free agency, Davis on special teams I think has the potential of replacing someone of B.A. talent. Still not sure overall with this draft and the fact that we still have not addressed all issues as well as we still have not taken a QB which we need. If Dennis Dixon is still available at this point, spend a seventh round draft pick on the kid and let's see how well he has recovered from his injury!!!!!!!!!
-
Do not know that much about Chris Williams however, it is nice to see at least one problem on the line is addressed so far. We'll have to see how the rest of the next 30 some odd hours play out and hope for the best. Still lots of holes to fix.

As much as Detroit sucks, they still got two from us last year. Looking at the entire schedule there are a few games that I worry about and they are: At Indy; with Peyton still there they are still at the top of the league. At Carolina; Could go either way and if it comes down to kickers, in Robbie we must trust With Eagles: Donovan is still recovering however, playing in his home town should give him a slight edge With Jags, Saints & @ Houston; could be very interesting games and it is uncertain without a quality QB nor O Line Divisional Games: Lost two to Minnesota & Detroit last season and Green Bay goes with Aaron Brooks. This will be interesting to see how it plays out. I am hoping as always for an 8-8 season however, I would not be surprised if we wind up 6-10. Either way we'll see how it all develops and we only have roughly fourteen weeks until training camp when the shit will hit the fan on what this team will become.

I actually went to high school with one of the last Honey Bears and think that Mickey McCaskey was an idiot back then for removing them from the team because he felt that they distracted from the team. Any way to get the ladies to return to reaffirm that we are the best franchise, I am all for it. Let me know.

Personally Benson has been a huge disappointment to me. There was so much hype when we drafted him as high as we did and all he has done is gotten hurt and really not shown any heart nor desire to play this game. You would think that if these perspective players have any knowledge about the NFL, that they would be excited as all get out to be part of the original franchise of the league and want to do anything and everything possible within their abilities to perform at a top level all the time. Unfortunately the players of today are overly catered to and they do not understand what hard work means or how to be a true teammate. I hope that JA finds someone worth a damn either via FA or in the draft that makes it a competition going into training camp and may the best back win. Besides McFadden in the draft, I do not know what is out there however, Benson is continuing to be a disappointment and at this point it may just be better to move him on and find someone who hopefully wants to be here and part of a team.

I understand those who still want a top tier O-Lineman which we definitely need. I still feel very strongly that if Matt Ryan some how dropped down to us at 14, that it is a no brainer and he is definitely a huge upgrade at the #1 position on the team. I really do not think he will make it that far. Additionally I just read my current SI and they have an interesting article on Dixon that is telling me that we may be able to get him later in the draft which may turn out to be a huge blessing in disguise at this point and time. Speculation is that Dixon to a degree is better that Vince Young, just not as explosive in the run and may be another option if Ryan is gone.
-
I have to agree with the sentiment that if the best O-Linemen are gone before we have our pick and Mendenhall is available, that we have no choice to take the best player available. I agree with the answer to the questions and the performance that Mendy had in the Rose Bowl game. The entire Illini team took one helluva a beating against arguably an NFL style college team. With drafting Mendy I would imagine that Wolfe or even possibly Benson would be cut or traded. I think CB is proving to be fragile and not a decent third down option like AP already is. I would take Mendy in a heart beat because he definitely appears to be more of what we need than CB will ever amount to.

Urlacher Replica Payton Authentic Throw Back Sewn in Navy Payton Special Commemorative Authentic White Butkus Authentic Navy Throw Back with Signature Embroidered Sayers Authentic White Throw Back, Since signed by The Kansas City Comet and now framed Usually wear the white when they are on the road and navy when they are at home. Still have issues with the Orange jersey myself. Just does not look right to me.

Considering that they retired this number for the Kansas City Comet a long time ago, I would be opposed to bringing it down from its rightful position of retirement for a wannabe prospect.

I am not sure that Shaun would really resolve anything for us at RB at this point in his career. If he still had something left in the tank, I do not think Seattle would have made the moves that they are making this off season. I agree with Ocho Cinco needing to have the ball thrown his way far too many times in order to be happy. As much as I like him, he would wind up being a headache for our team. Not sure Arizona would be willing to part with either Fitzgerald nor Boldin and if Boldin is expendable due to finances and we are able to get him, that would improve the WRs instantly however, the O Line as we all have been saying still is a mess and until JA does something there, that should be the main focus at this point.
-
At one point I thought Arch was worthy of being here. Do not fully understand what the hell happened to him in DC however, it appears that what he had in St. Louis is now long gone. Personally if we are able to let him go without to much of a hit against the cap, it may be time to let him go. I kind of wish that we would have made a play at Asante Samuel as that would have improved our DBs a lot. Oh well, we'll just have to keep praying to the Football Gods that JA does something right along the way.
-
It definitely seems that this may be the case that JA and company are planning for 2009 versus 2008. I am still not convinced that we will be any better in 2008 then we were in 2007. Personally I am always hoping that my team goes at minimum .500 for each season, anything above that is just icing on the cake. Making the playoffs is nice, winning a playoff game is even better, winning the championship is definitely the best. Still have too much time prior to the Draft and Training Camp that there may still be things that will be worked out by JA. What they are specifically I am not sure and really am not expecting a lot. I just hope that the Bears do improve to 8-8 and anything more is that much better.
-
Personally I think that this is a decent signing for next to nothing. Not sure what happened to Brandon in DC however, knowing the turmoil that has plagued that team for a while would partially explain the downfall. I agree with the others that have said that at least it is another person who has potential to be a good addition. If Lloyd gets back to what he did at Illinois and while in San Francisco, we may have gotten a steal in the FA market. I am not to disappointed with this and once training camp starts in July, we'll be able to access this signing a bit easier.

With all the expectations that Benson had coming in, it does not surprise me that he has failed so miserably. I do blame the O-Line to a degree however, if I remember correctly when "Sweetness" started out, our O-Line was not that great and he still produced pretty well when they finally gave him the rock. Benson seemed like a good pick initially however, reality has set in and it is time to cut bait with this injury prone, really do not care individual and find someone who does have heart, gives a damn about playing in Chicago and will be productive.
-
I have always liked having home grown products wind up with the home town team. I think Zbikowski is the right type of player that may not have great speed however, seems to make up for the lack of speed by being a student of the game. I think Zbikowski would be a good addition to our defensive backs.
-
Wish we would have been able to secure a higher pick however, knowing Griese is at the end of his journeyman career we at least get something for nothing.
