Qualcomm is an all right place to see a game now that it has been converted to a Football only stadium. Problem is that the Chargers screwed the city of San Diego on the addition and now are not taking resposibility for it. The Chargers refused to work with groups that have purchased tickets previously, as they really want to move to Orange County. I went with a group of native Chicagoans that are a part of the Western Association of Crazy Chicagoans & Others. We had a total of 30 seats however, had to go through a ticket broker. For nose bleed seats near the top of the stadium, we paid $165 per for $54 seats. The cool thing was that I would guesstimate that there had to be at least 35-45% Bears fans in attendance and we were disappointed in the end.

I was actually at the game yesterday and with 29 of my closest SoCal friends watching that game. First and foremost as it appears that is has been stated, The offense and offensive play calling sucked big time. Too many mistakes by everyone and not one person is able to absord the blame for the failures alone. Second, the punt that hit McGowan is really what turned the tide in a game that was close for most of the first three quarters. Finally the "D" was spectacular as expected however, were left on the field too long and with Mike Brown going down lost part of the heart and soul of this "D" unit. I do not know what the columnists are talking about in regards to the cable. Yes there was a camera that floated above plays however, I believe is was well out of the way for punts and kicks so that is just stupid by some San Diego Union Tribune writer. At this point I am not too worried as we still have fifteen games to go before we hit the playoffs and there will be some contests that will be a bit tougher than others however, it is still to early to get nervous. With the way KC got slaughtered yesterday as well, we should be able to bounce back nicely and then get ready to see what happens against Dallas.

Gamethread: Preseason game 4: Cleveland @ Chicago
chitownman replied to balta1701-A's topic in Soldier Field
I agree with this assessment on pounding Quinn. I have never thought he was much while playing for the Irish and really do not think he is an NFL QB. Give Urlacher a clear and free shot and Quinn will miss the rest of the game. I also hope like hell that Flexy is able to hold onto the ball and does not throw an INT and agree as well that no one gets hurt nor arrested. -
Tommie Harris might play in the last exhibition game
chitownman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Soldier Field
Not sure that I want Tommie to see any action at this point. Let him continue to rehab the hamstring and go through the non contact drills until the end of next week when they get ready to head to San Diego to start the season. I am hoping that along with me, the other Bears fans in Qualcomm Stadium on the 9th will see Tommie and the rest of the DLine harrassing Philip Rivers and stopping LT to a degree in order for us to win. I look to see Tommie get at least one sack to start the season on the 9th. -
Someone did report that they saw him at a night club however, when the questioned the club manager he could not confirm or deny that Lance was there. The police say that they have no record of the police report being filed as well. Something is fishy in Suburbia Chicago with this and hopefully one day real soon we'll learn the truth to what happened on the Edens at Devon AVE on Monday August 27th.

Goodall is the Commissioner of the league and the actions that Lance took detract from the league and thus creates an ability of Goodall suspending Lance as he sees fit. There is a clause in all of the contracts that the athletes sign that basically state that they will be law abinding citizens and will not do something to jepordize the league or their own team and Lance's actions definitely show that he did not do that by leaving the scene and then supposedly filing a false police report. I am able to envision a one to two game suspension being handed down.
-
I look at it this way and I am able to see Roger Goodall looking at it in a similar fashion as he is attempting to clean up the tarnished image of the NFL. Lance was out exceptionally late, driving fast, got into a single car accident and fled the scene. Not being responsible for his actions initially by fleeing the scene of an accident, then reporting the car stolen, then saying he admits to being in an accident is not an acceptable practice by a mature adult. It puts a slight tarnish on Lance and the Bears and the NFL. IMO as well Lance appears to be hiding something and until the police complete their investigation or Lance decides to be a mature adult about what happened, this is all we are able to go on. As a deterant Lance should be suspended for one game and face some sort of fine. Until we stop allowing elite professional athletes from getting away with things, they will continue to feel that they are above the law. If it was any of us, we would have possibly received more punishment at this point than what Lance is receiving.

I agree as well, until Da' Bears win something dynasty should be the last thing coming from anyone about this team. The closest thing we have seen to a dynasty lately is New England winning three Bowls in four years. We have a long way to go at this point.

Very interesting article that SN came up with. It gives some hope to all those Flexy Rexy backers that there may be improvement this year from last year. I still personally do not believe in Flexy however, do hope that he may improve in order to prove me wrong.

Because Jarrett lost his best friend and father on November 1, 1999 and has struggled to show the talent that he has. Watch what happens in the CFL with Montreal this year. From what I am hearing Jarrett is tearing up the CFL. Some one in the NFL is probably going to notice this and bring Jarrett back to the NFL where he belongs.

The first of this year's Grossman threads
chitownman replied to balta1701-A's topic in Soldier Field
I disagree with you on this as head coach John l. Smith had lost the team in 2005 and again in 2006 to make Drew as inconsistant as you unfortunately believe. That is why John L. Smith got fired, from back to back heartbreaking losses to Notre Dame and Ohio State. Drew was still pretty spectacular in his efforts in attempting to hold that team together and unfortunately there were too many obstacles to overcome. Watch out for Detroit in a couple of years when the team becomes Stanton's team. -
The first of this year's Grossman threads
chitownman replied to balta1701-A's topic in Soldier Field
We actually had one available however, Detroit snatched him up in the second round. Drew Stanton showed me more in three years at Michigan State than Flexy has shown me in his years as our QB or better, then his time at Florida. -
Well Eli should be as good as Peyton is with the ability to have a better career in the long run than Peyton however, it is hard to be successful in New York especially if you struggle to start.
-
Brian should actually be better than Tom because of having bloodlines from Bob however, Brian started out in a no win situation in Denver and has never really recovered from that disaster that he was drafted into. I personally do not think that Grossman is all that and we'll have to wait and see how this season develops. As someone else posted today as well, we will know a lot about our season after the first three games being against San Diego in San Diego and returning home for Kansas City and Dallas. Good chance to be either 3-0 or 0-3 and of course many other first three game combinations. I just do not see what people see in Rex and until he proves something, I will never be a fan of his. Let's get to September 9th already and get this season under way and we'll talk as it progresses.

The first of this year's Grossman threads
chitownman replied to balta1701-A's topic in Soldier Field
One of these days I just hope that Angelo and Lovie realize how piss poor Flexy Rexy is as a QB and that they will find a true diamond in the rough who has better skills than Flexy does at this point and time. -
Yes I am. Still no one has been able to name a QB that came out of Spurrier's system and had a successful NFL career. Hell Spurrier did not even last in the NFL as well. Granted working for Daniel Snyder has to be just as bad as working for Steinbrenner.

Hell I think of PLANK & FENCIK before Duerson & Fencik. Until Brown stays healthy for a whole season again and Archuleta proves that he is better with the Cover - 2 once again, there will be doubts for a while.
-
There is one problem that still is a sore spot IMO and that is the QB. Grossman last night in a pre-season game has 3 fumbles and throws a pick and struggles once again. I understand that it is a pre-season game however, Grossman continues to prove time and time again that he is just an average QB with mediocre skills. Griese may be all right however is not that much better and Orton is now buried at third string. Until Grossman proves me wrong, I am concerned about our "O". Fortunately we still have one of the best, if not the best "D" in the league and we have improved there as well. Imagine if we had Farve, Lienart or even a Brady caliber QB, then I would agree that we may go 16-0 however, I am worried that we will wind up 9-7.

Jets RB Jones injures right leg during practice
chitownman replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Soldier Field
That is the truth. I hope that one season that Thomas is able to get through the entire year without any injury issues. In the mean time I do hope that it is nothing serious and that he is ready for the Jets by time the season starts. -
Chris Harris was a good character player and someone I was glad that we have. The only thing I am concerned with at this point is everyone staying healthy. If we stay healthy and they determined Chris was the expendable one, I am glad that they appear to be getting something for him. What that is will yet to be determined. Good luck Chris in Carolina.

In a small way I am glad to see that something is getting completed however, I am not sure that I want Briggs on the team long term any more. The way he has become a malcontent in this whole process is really disappointing and he should be grateful for he god given talent and the fact that the Bears thought enough of him to Franchise him. We'll see what the details are once they are announced and glad that for another year, the Bears have all players in camp on time.

The Tribune is reporting that the Bears signed Charles "Peanut" Tillman to a six year contract extention. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. All I know for sure is that is a good thing to have done. We need Peanut and Nathan back there covering things and glad that the Bears were able to get this accomplished. We'll see how the season plays out from here and things look good with Peanut taken care of.

SIngle game Bears tickets go on sale today at noon
chitownman replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Soldier Field
I was shut out in tickets and then noticed that on eBay someone in Virginia had tickets available to purchase from. Ticketmaster is so Fd Up that it is ridiculous. Hope that I may somehow find some not too expensive Bears Dallas tickets. Unfortunatley it seems that everyone who is selling them wants to make a mass fortune by selling. It sucks that people want $400+ for $65 seats. -
For all his promising that he was turning his life around, this is definitely not proving that he really wants to do that. Being out at 3:30 am and then getting pulled over does not show responsibility for one's actions. I am starting to get the feeling that Tank's days are extremely numbered and we'll have to see what Roger Goodell feels once they know what the true facts are in this case. So much for possibility of having his suspension shorted to six games. Thanks Tank for the memories however, DO NOT LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE ASS ON YOUR WAY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

I read part of Peter King's rankings of the 32 projected starters of the 2007 campaign and I am not surprised to see Rex Grossman in the bottom of the rankings. Peter has Rex ranked 27th stating, "I hadn't seen such a low-performance passer in the Super Bowl since Trent Dilfer with the Ravens seven years ago." King is also surprised that Da' Bears did not get some insurance at the position by drafting a youngster. I personally would have loved to see Drew Stanton out of Michigan State with us versus the Lay Downs. I can just see, Millen gets axed finally and the new regime in Detroit turns the team around and Stanton leads the offenses in the right direction. Too much upside to Stanton that IMO is far better than Grossman will ever be. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...tml?eref=si_nfl
