I just feel bad for Vince. He is having a helluva run since winning the Rose Bowl. Now EA Sports Madden 2008 has screwed this up for him. Vince may not even survive week one in Jacksonville. Del Rio is a pretty good coach and will have a stronger defense than he did last year. If Vince survives week one, week two against Indy is not something to look forward to and then to play on carpet in NO in week 3 does not look good. Injury most likely will be a torn ACL that will end his season prematurely.

Bears determined to complete unfinished business
chitownman replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Soldier Field
Glad to see that some of the leaders of this team are taking the approach that there is still unfinished business to take care of. With that being the case, there is a strong possibility that this team will over come the predecessor's short comings the following year. There are approximately 13 weeks until training camp opens up once again and we start preparing for a trip to Glendale Arizona at the end of the season. -
The good ole days of Pappa Bear with Mugs and the Jim Finks and Jerry Vainisi were pretty crafty in getting key pieces of the puzzle. Hopefully this will be what is express on this new NFL Network show.

I just wonder how Kiper has become such a so called expert. I am not sure that Smith will be around, TE is not that high of a priority with Clark's year last year, I agree with Bomber in regards to the fact that I am not sure that I want someone named Rufus on this team and Duckworth is another one I am not sure I want on my team. Who ever is the best available player at the time is who we should draft. I am not convinced that we will retain the 31st pick. I see Angelo trading it away and stock piling picks later in this year's draft or getting more for the future.

Denver must be desperate for something however, I am not sure what it is. Why in the world would anyone sign or resign this looser? Good luck Cutler and Shannahan.
-
I agree with you Bomber, this may only be as easy as ESPN says because of the NFC North. It does not look that easy when you really think about it. We may wind up 9-7 however, I do expect to be at least 10-6 if not 11-5. We'll see what happens comes the fall.

With the suspensions that have been already handed out, I would not be surprised if Tank was suspended for the 2007. Considering this is his second run in with the law on gun possession charges I see Goodell putting it the same way to Tank as he just did to Jones and Henry. I think that there will be things that Tank will have to do and may be able to apply for reinstatement sooner however, that is something still to be determined.

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I personally am glad that Ian is returning to the team. I think he adds great value and hopefully they will use him a bit more during the season. I wonder if JA has an idea of what Tank is going to wind up with from the NFL. I see that Pac-Mac is meeting with Goodall on April 3rd and I imagine that Tank will be summoned to New York once he is released.

I just hope that Angelo gets more than just one pick for Briggs if that is what happens. I agree, it is going to be a lot of fun watching this defense and see what improvements are made thanks to the addition of Archuleta. I just wish that he would not have wasted a year in Washington.

Definitely is a good place to see a game. There is ample public transportation available to and from the "Q". (Qualcomm Stadium). Word of caution for those who may decide to take the trip, if you go be on your best behavior. Thanks to Raider Fan, there is now a courtroom set up in the bowels of the stadium for all fans who get out of hand, whether or not they are drunk, get into a fight, etc. SDPD decided that it was better to process the fans before a judge and so it is. The good thing is that after the game, you are able to head into Old Town San Diego for so real good Mexican food and adult beverages.

The only thing I knew for sure was the Ruben Brown resigning and the signing of Anthony Adams. It seemed odd that there was a report of another safety signing since we had just gotten Archuleta. It appears that ESPN did not check their facts correctly and it seems that ESPN is getting good at that.

Having lived for almost ten years in San Diego and 18 1/2 years overall, there definitely will be a big contingent of fans there rooting for the Da' Bears. It definitely seems that no matter where in SoCal there is a game involving Chicago teams, that at minimum 40% of the fans in attendance are cheering for Chicago and it appeared at times that it was closer to 60-70% Chicago Fans. Wish that I would be back there once again for another Bears victory in San Diego, may just have to work it out.

I like the idea partially in that I think that they way everyone seems to be talking that Briggs is definitely worth more than just the 6th overall pick this draft. The trade as it is currently stated basically states that Washington gets 2 for 1. I have a problem with that process as Briggs is all ready a proven commodity in the NFL. Washington needs to add to the pot in order to make this deal work. I also have a hard time helping the egomaniac Daniel Snyder in anything that he does, so let's make sure that he pays more for getting Briggs.

I am not sure that I want Davis to back up Benson. I still like Adrian Peterson and feel that the Bears need to use him more now that TJ is in NY with the Jets. As for Carr, if he was willing to come in and there was to be an open competition for the starting QB position that would be a good thing. Balta, I think it is always a good thing to continue working until you find the right piece to the puzzle. I personally do not think Orton will ever become what Angelo is anticipating, Griese may only be a decent back up at this point and I am still not convinced on Sexy Rexy. Let them all compete and see who really comes to the top. I additionally would rather have Drew Stanton out of Michigan State however, I think he will be gone too early for the Bears to get this good QB.

I agree that we need to resign Scott as well as Idonije just in case Tank is lost to suspension which is still most likely coming and depending on how Tommie is recovering. It is always better to have quality players who know the system versus attempting to bring any one in whether via free agency or the draft. I like both Scott & Idonije and think that they are worthy to retain on this team.

I just read David Haugh's article today and well as Larry Mayer's section on the Bears website and it appears that signing of Archuleta is kind of like an insurance marker. Sort of the same way that Griese is signed to back up Grossman. I really do not believe the Bears would get rid of Mike Brown unless he is more injured that what they are telling the media and the public. Imagine a starting safety tandem of Brown and Archuleta, would make teams reconsider some of their play calling. I think that this is a good move on our part, especially with Archuleta restructuring his contract to finally come back and play for Lovie once again.

Part of the problem is that the public perception of athletes is that they are above the law. When athletes start being held accountable for their actions the better off society will be. Tank does and needs to spend time in jail and additionally needs to seek some sort of counselling in regards to how he comes across as a person. The results of the raid are scary and that there were children in the house who may have inadvertently gotten a hold of the guns and possibly had a tragic accident; is not something that should be seen as acceptable if Tank does not spend quality time in jail and counselling.

It definitely is a shame to see him go. Without TJ we may not have had the running game that we needed to be as successful as we were. Best of luck in the Apple TJ.

Bears working on a deal to send Briggs to NYG?
chitownman replied to BearSox's topic in Soldier Field
This is why there are so many prima donas in professional sports. Franchise tags infuriates Briggs, what is $7 million plus guaranteed not enough money for you. Get the hell out of town. Lance is whining like a baby versus wanting to see what the new offer of a contract may be. With being tagged, it guarantees him bigger money than if he did not get tagged. What is to say that the Giants, who are a mess or any other team would have been willing to sign Lance for more than the average salary. What are the Bears supposed to do kill themselves with the salary cap? I think not. The more money that is paid to these guys the more ridiculous it becomes. All contracts should be incentive based and players earn bonuses for their play. This is just a sad statement to how these players only care about money and nothing else. Get rid of this malcontent and find someone else who wants to play and be respectful for the talent they have and grateful for the chance to play professional football. -
It is official, the Bears and Ron Rivera are separating once again. It appears that Lovie Smith wants to go in a different direction with this team and Lovie and Ron did not agree on the direction. What is really being said here? It is a bit difficult to swallow that a member of our Super Bowl winning team is no longer coaching this team once again. The coordinator that I thought should be let go after the end of the season was Ron Turner, not Ron Rivera. I just hope that all involved know what to do and are able to get this team to the next level which is to win in Glendale AZ next February. Maybe Norv will decide to bring his brother to San Diego to help screw up that franchise offensively. We'll have to see what happens.

Any there any other members of this board that are going to attend the Bears Convention the weekend of March 30 thru April 1st? I am definitely going and it would be fun to meet up with some people to enhance the experience of the convention. If you are attending, please let me know. Thanks, Robb aka ChitownMan

And yet both of you Kyyle23 & Steve9347 have not supported what you are saying only criticizing me for my opinion. Show me where a journeyman player is a good position coach. What I am saying is that I do not trust Wilson and that he has not proven anything to me as the QB coach. Goes back to a previous argument that Kyyle23 and I were having in regards to Grossman being a Steve Spurrier disciple. If Wilson was a decent coach, he would continue to drill Grossman and playing an intelligent game versus what he played. There are too many people out there that are giving Grossman, Wilson and Turner too much credit for this team going 15-4 this season. Far too many games were won by the defense stepping up and bailing the Offense out. Fundamental mistakes should not be tolerated and from what the two of you are saying, Wilson is one helluva coach. Just because I disagree and my attempt to have you think about something that may not be as logical as you think, does not mean I am wrong. What I say is not BULLSHIT to me, it is my opinion. I will agree to disagree with you however, to tell me that I am off my rocker (my words) is not fair to me for my opinion. There are some good journeyman players that have done well as coaches, namely Jeff Fischer for one, however I do not feel that Wilson is true to who he is currently employed by.
-
I disagree with you as I do feel where a guy played does factor into his coaching in some fashion or another. Additionally in regards to coaching, I also feel what type of player a coach may have been also factors into their coaching style. Wilson as I said was a journeyman player and does not do well as a coach. I do not think he takes time to review fundamentals and makes sure that his pupil is completely ready to play the game week in and week out. So me how Wilson is a good coach, as I do not see it and I am able to lay blame for some of the mistakes that Grossman continues to make. Imagine if Wilson was up in Minneapolis that their quarterback may hear a different version of playing then the one that Grossman now receives.
-
Delhomme is a journeyman at best who has a couple of lucky breaks in Carolina. I still do not feel Orton is that great of a QB so IMO I would have no problem letting him go. I also do not think that Rex is too happy in Chicago at this point and again, wouldn't break my heart to get rid of him as well if there is someone out there that we are able to have come in and compete for the starting position. Griese vs. Carr vs. Grossman/??? would make for a very interesting training camp at the end of July.

The Official Off-Season and Draft Idea thread.
chitownman replied to BearSox's topic in Soldier Field
Their are so many holes that still need fixing for next season. I agree that we need a more competent QB, someone to challenge in the DB group, OL is getting a bit too old and Kruetz is still the only one for sure that still has some long life to play, I am not sure about the DL other than Tommie Harris and Mark Anderson. In regards to coaches, Rivera may be lost to Dallas however, Turner and Wilson need to go as well. We'll have to see what Da' Bears decide to do as the off season gets going. I also agree that BRIGGS is a must retain.
