I have to agree that I am not concerned with Forte or who is brought in to spell him. I am more concerned with our offensive line. I agree as much as I have loved Kreutz, he definitely is winding down a bit for as long as he has been in the league. The rest of the line expect for maybe Williams at this point is a bigger concern and the question is whether or not Tice will be able to get through to these guys to help them improve enough once the 2010 regular season gets started.

I understand what everyone is saying in regards to Kampman having a bit more upside that Peppers at this point however, as defiantgiant has stated I would imagine that Kampman may not be able to leave the hated ones up North due to the fact that they will probably provide him an offer that he just can not and will not pass up. Peppers while older I think would do very well for us and add some dimension that we seem to be lacking. I know there are others that are concerned that Peppers will disappear however, I think that a change will be good for him and he will do better than people are going to give him credit for and it would be fun to watch him playing here.

Exactly, our coaching staff is not prepared week in and week out and I still do not believe that this team is completely in support of Smith and his game plan/preparation. I still think about the 2008 season and the game at Minnesota and it still baffles my mind that Smith and Angelo have a job at this point and time. That is why major changes within the organization are needed and it starts with Virginia and flows down hill from there.

Here is a link to an article on the Trib's website tonight: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...,0,860559.story Question that I have for everyone is that with the way Tommie Harris breaks down, Gaines Adams passing and no idea on Wale at this point, would it be within our interest to see if we are able to make a run at Peppers. I have always like him and the effort that he brings and he is one of those dominant type of players that it maybe nice to add him to the defensive mix. Do we have enough money available and will the McCaskeys agree to giving Peppers a respectable contract to help shore up the defensive line a little bit?

It is just disappointing to know that it took that long to get D.A. onto the field and give him a legitimate shot at playing. Now that we have seen what he is able to do, will the new OC allow D.A. to become the apparent number one receive it looks like he is able to be or are we just going to waste everyone's time in regards to what should happen. Let Hester be a third down receiver and see if Hester still has anything left as a return man. Only time will tell for sure.

Smith, Angelo may be at odds over coordinator pick
chitownman replied to Wesson44's topic in Bearstalk
I am still not convinced that this is the right way to go. Martz and Smith are BFFs and that may not bode to well in the long run. Not completely sure why Martz has lost his last two coordinator positions with the Lay Downs and with working the Samurai. I am not convinced on the ViQueens QB coach as well. We need someone strong for sure however, the coach also needs to understand what Chicago wants and needs with some modifications to make it that much better. I just also want this whole damn nightmare to go away and it does not look like it will any time soon. -
If you did not see already, Cignetti has stated that he is not leaving Pitt for any other job at this point and time. He is very happy where he is at with Wanny and does not have any aspirations to go beyond his most coveted job of being at Pittsburgh. Apparently he made this statement sometime last night.
-
He has now stated that he is not leaving Pitt to head to any other job. He wants to help Wanny continue to rebuild Pitt into a National Power.
-
This surprises you why? This is the organization's standard M.O. and it does not appear to ever be changing.
-
If that is the case then they should not leave Lovie hanging so far out to dry. Make the damn change already and give Cowher what it is that he wants. Show the fans that you do get it and stop playing dumb ass games with everyone involved.

I suffer from this as well NFOLIGNO and I am glad that my twins still take a nap in the afternoon even at age 4 now.
-
Just remember that even though you lost a child to the Cardinals, remember that the Arizona Cardinals originally started out as the Chicago Cardinals so you still have four rooting for Chicago teams.
-
I am so with you NFOLIGNO on what you are saying and that is why I started this thread. It was a place I know that have people who truthfully get and understand what it is that I am saying. They may not agree with what I am saying completely which is fine however, they get the points that I am doing my best to make. I will also be anxious for next July to come around and the team reporting to training camp. I will renew my NFL Sunday Ticket so that I do not have to sit at a bar in order to watch my team and I will yell and scream at my TV during each and every game. I was born into this team and just because I disagree with the way the owners are running it, does not mean that I will ever jump ship. I bleed Burnt Orange & Navy Blue every day and just wish that the McCaskeys would get with it and realize that some of the fans do know what we are talking about and that things need to be different. I am still on the season ticket waiting list and will continue to remain so until I am able to purchase a pair a seats year in and year out.

As we sit here three weeks plus after the firing of five offensive coaches and announcing that we are going to bring in a new defensive coordinator, does it seem that this team is getting more and more chaotic and being a total laughing stock within the NFL? There has been a lot of speculation on why the Bears have not hired any coordinators and hired only Mike Tice at this point. Is there now a stigma on this team with the fact that most everyone is seeing the writing on the wall that the current head coach is a total lame duck and no one truthfully wants to come in and coach knowing that the probability next season that they will all be looking for a new job. People talk about the fact that Angelo is looking to save his job however, Philips has put the pressure on both Angelo and Smith to win or else. Truthfully who in their right mind would want to take that risk. Angelo could give an assistant a multi-year deal to assure that they still have a job after 2010 however, if Angelo loses his job (which he should) the new GM or head of football operations will probably want to clean house completely and allow the head coach that he brings in to hire the assistants that he wants. There is nothing to guarantee for these guys when the writing is so well written on the wall. Look at the coaches that were to be interviewed or interviewed and how they are all treating this as the plague to a degree. Bates who could have reunited with Cutler gave up the opportunity to coach on the most storied franchise in the NFL and said no. Chudzinski interviews then decides that it is the wrong job for him for some reason, Zampese is only given one week by Marvin Lewis which has come and gone and now even Mike Martz is saying that he will no longer consider the OC position with this team. These are just a few of the so called key names that I am mentioning that have gotten most of the on going discussion about being part of this team. When was it that this team ownership decided that the way to do business this way was is totally acceptable? Virginia does not get it nor will she ever. Michael McCasky is back in charge since his daddy passed on and screwing things up even worse then when he fired Ditka. Philips is trusted far to much to be in charge of this team as he does not have truthfully any back ground for this game or team other than he has been the family CPA for quite some time. It is sad to see how pathetic that this team has become in such a short time since appearing in the Super Bowl only three seasons ago. I just wish that Virginia would realize that she is allowing her daddy's team to become totally crippled and an embarrassment to her family, the City and the NFL and should sell the team to someone who gets it and knows how to make the team a legitimate contender. Unfortunately it looks like we are going to be stuck with the status quo for a long, long time. What do you all think?

My five favorite quarterbacks of all time on the Bears: 1. Mad Mac 2. Vince Evans 3. Jim Miller 4. Bob Avellini 5. Jay Cutler I have only truthfully been watching the Bears since the early to mid 70s and these guys are my most favorite QBs that I have actually seen play.
-
The only problem I see with bringing in Plank is that it brings back an important part of the team's past and with the way Smith dismissed Rivera, not sure this is the answer. I believe that Plank would definitely add a spark to the defense that is lacking and would instill what it means to be a Chicago Bear. I just do not trust Smith would be that smart.

He also got us Flexy Rexy, Club Ced just to name a couple of bad decisions that he has made. I like the acquisition of Cutler however, there are far to many mistakes in player evaluation on and off the field that Jack Ass needs to be shown the door and be told to not let it hit him on the ass on his way out. http://www.talkbears.com/forums/style_imag...pr/stat_sql.gif

I am not really a Mike Martz fan and would have to agree that Jack Ass is doing his best to keep his job if he is keeping Losing Streak from hiring someone that Losing Streak is most comfortable with. I still feel that Jack Ass and Losing Streak need to go.
-
I would not trade Cutler at this point and time. We have bigger issues than the fact that the Bears were not able to sign anyone coaching wise that Cutler would prefer to work with. We are going to be stuck with another piss poor season in 2010 and hopefully at the end of the 2010 season there will be many people that will be looking for new jobs. Ideally it will start with Ted Phillips and continue through the entire coaching staff. Cutler is someone to rebuild around and we have a couple of positive pieces already in place player wise, we just need better coaches to help direct the players.

It has become pathetic at how professional sports is run. The owners go nuts with some of these contracts that they have with the athletes and cry foul because in the long run they claim to be losing money. On the other hand the athlete as well makes ungodly money for a short professional career however, is not truly held accountable for their performance on the field. Both sides need to give and share what ever in order to make this all work out better for everyone involved. I have mentioned that all professional athletes should sign performance enhanced contracts or incentive laced contracts as the saying goes. I also agree that the owners need to open the books to everyone, not just the players so that we are all able to see what it is that they are doing. Most companies out there do have annual reports that the public is able to review to understand what is happening for the company. Professional sports for some reason remains on the QT and alienates everyone from the players, various other staff members to the fan base. I have also mentioned before that the owners need to understand that they are not in a typical business and that they are not able to follow the standard model for a business which means increase the bottom line. Put a quality product on the field and spend to invest in your future and be forthcoming to what is happening. All this secrecy is appalling and the fact that the owners and the players take the attitude of, "I Don't Care About The Rest Of The Word, I Only Care About Me," is not a way to be. There are far to many issues that effect all of us and those who make the most money need to do a better job at helping everyone out and not being elite snobs. There must be a way to work together to get things going in the right direction for everyone involved and not pissing off their respective fan bases. It is I am sure another thing that is making Papa Bear spin in his grave as I am sure he did not see the NFL turn into the financial spectacle that it has. If there is a lock out next season or a player strike, so be it. It will just continue to alienate the fans and it shows that they do not give a rat's ass about the fans.

It was brought up that apparently the last time Tennessee was looking for a head coach that Tennessee had attempted to get Lovie Smith at that time which was roughly fourteen months ago. With Lane Kiffin's bolting to USC, Tennessee is looking for a new head coach once again. Here is the link from the article on the trib's website: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...ovie-smith.html Personally I think that would be a good thing considering all that has transpired for the last year and one half and the fact that all the projected OCs and DCs are not coming into what is apparently being interpreted as a lame duck situation in Chicago with the win or else demand. If Smith leaves to head to Tennessee might it make it easier to jettison Angelo as well and start a better rebuilding process and hopefully getting the right coach and GM who will better evaluate the talent pool and right this sinking ship?

Just call us "Lackeys Are Us!!!!!" I am not happy with still having Smith or Angelo and until they are gone, we will suffer.

According to this morning's update ticker on ESPNews it showed that Carroll stated via text to Mortenson that he has not had any discussions nor interviews with any NFL team. Does not mean that it is not happening however, Carroll is being the shrewd businessman that he has always been. I imagine that Seattle is going to present Carroll with an offer he just is not able to refuse and I would imagine that Carroll will turn around and offer Bates something that Bates just can not refuse as well. Remember as well that supposedly per Phillips that 2010 is a must win with playoffs or else and if Bates comes in and the team fails miserably once again which is probable, then Bates will be looking for a new job again in January 2011. If I were Bates and there seemed to be a better chance to show what I am able to do by joining my current boss at his predicted new NFL position, I would wait to see if that happens and if he does want me with him in a more prominent role than what he has now.

The problem is that the family is having blind faith in their accountant to run the business from a business point of view and that is not able to be a reality. Phillips does need to return to the financial side of things and do what he does best which is counting and crunching numbers. I am still not convinced that Angelo nor Smith are the right pieces to the puzzle and we are stuck with them both for at least another year. Until Virginia realizes that she needs to find someone that she feels comfortable with to run this historic and extremely proud franchise, we the fans will be stuck with the status quo for quite a while. I understand that points that Cracker Dog is making in his thread here however, the reality tells me that we are just plain destined to be mediocre for quite a while to come. Until their are true football people helping the McCaskey family with this organization, flashes of brilliance with an occasional sniff at the post season is what we will always get to deal with. For now we have to accept things as they are because we unfortunately do not have the ability nor clout to make a change. Phillips said they were listening to the fans however, keeping Angelo and Smith is not listening to the fans. It is having blind faith in non football people telling you that what you have will work best for the organization and that even if they alienate some of the fan base, there is too much still for this team that they will still make some sort of profit so what ever happens is all right because the bottom line is that this is a business and the object of business is to make money which Da' Bears are. Until the McCaskey family realizes that this is not an ordinary business and you are not supposed to follow the A-Typical plan for running a business, the better off we'll all be.

I just stated similar stuff on one of the other threads and suffice it to say that we are stuck with crap and everything that goes with crap. I miss Mugs more and more every day that we are stuck with the inept efforts of his sister and her family who continue to destroy this proud franchise. Who knows if things will ever get any better and from the way things played out today, it is doubtful that it will ever change.
