  1. What would Vashers cap hit be if he was still a Bear next year?
  2. Turner & Cutler have said it was on Cutler http://espn.go.com/blog/chicagobears/post/..._medium=twitter Was it Jay Cutler or Johnny Knox? "Johnny Knox did well," Cutler said. "I just have to either throw it out of bounds or let it go sooner." "They gave us a different look," Knox explained. "It looked like the corner was coming, but he didn't. He trailed behind me and just made a good play on the ball. I thought it was a two-man, so I tried to make a different adjustment, but we weren't able to hook up." Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner broke the tie in the postgame locker room: it was a bad throw by the quarterback. "They brought a corner blitz, and we had a protection called where we could pick it up," Turner said. "We anticipated that corner blitz, that time we didn't execute quite as well as we wanted to. And the ball was underthrown."

  10. http://footballdiner.com/wordpress/?p=282 Diner’s exclusive Christmas competition: win a copy of The Ultimate Super Bowl Book It’s nearly Christmas (and Hanukkah. And Eid and Diwali were celebrated recently too…) so we thought we’d treat our lovely Diner readers with a fantastic, festive competition. That’s right, we’ve got five copies of Bob McGinn’s unbelievably good The Ultimate Super Bowl Book to give away in time (we figure) for the Christmas holiday. It’s a rip-snorting read, breaking down every Super Bowl game so far and, better still, featuring superb interviews from players and coaches more than willing to retrospectively lay the blame at the feet of their peers - in often controversial fashion. It is a book, quite simply, no NFL fan should be without - more indispensible than the NFL Record and Fact Book, and more entertaining than any Super Bowl anthology we’ve ever come across. Read our complete review here (but in a nutshell, we love it.)

  15. Notre Dame fires head football coach Charlie Weis after 6-6 season BY Rich Cimini, Dick Weiss AND Roger Rubin DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS Originally Published:Monday, November 30th 2009, 1:48 PM Updated: Monday, November 30th 2009, 5:34 PM Shaw/GettyRough season for Fightin' Irish means end of Charlie Weis era at Notre Dame. Take our PollHis luck runs out If you were an NFL GM, would you hire Charlie Weis as your offensive coordinator? Yes, his Super Bowl rings speak for themselves No, he failed the Fightin' Irish The Jets and Giants should have him on speed dial Related NewsArticlesWeiss: Irish eyeing a fresh startNotre Dame fired football coach Charlie Weis Monday, as was first reported by the Daily News. Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick decided to make the change following the Fighting Irish's 45-38 loss to Stanford Saturday. Weis and the Irish finished the regular season 6-6 with four straight losses: to Navy, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and the Cardinal. "We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations," Swarbrick said in a news release. "As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he's as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results." Weis has six years and a reported $18 million remaining on his contract. In five season he was 35-27 overall. Assistant coach Rob Ianello will serve as interim head coach until a replacement is hired. Two oft-mentioned candidates - Florida's Urban Meyer and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops - already have said they will remain in their current jobs. "I'm going to be at Oklahoma next year, so I can't be at two places at once," Stoops said in a conference call Monday. Cincinnati's Brian Kelly, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh and TCU's Gary Patterson are expected to be discussed by Notre Dame administrators. Weis came to Notre Dame from the NFL New England Patriots, where he was offensive coordinator. He elevated expectations around the program with back-to-back appearances in BCS Bowls during his first two seasons. The last three years, ND was 16-21. Weis has told friends in South Bend he has at least six offers from NFL teams to become their offensive coordinator. This past weekend against Stanford, Weis refused to do halftime and postgame media interviews. He reportedly cleaned out his office Thursday before the team left for the West Coast. Weis is not the only one apparently leaving. Junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen was seen giving his football helmet to his family following the loss to Stanford in which he threw five touchdown passes, a strong indication he will declare for the NFL draft. The players and coaches have been off limits to the media ever since they arrived back on campus but the team leadership committee was to meet Monday afternoon to vote on whether to accept a bowl bid if it is offered. It is unlikely Weis would coach the team in that game. Shortly after the loss to UConn on Nov. 21 Weis appeared to know that his job was on the line. He said he wouldn't be able to argue being dismissed "because 6-5 is not good enough." Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/...l#ixzz0YODiQSFv

  19. When Jay Cutler has a 100-plus passer rating, his teams are 13-0. ... RB Matt Forte is the only player in the NFL with 1,750-plus rushing yards and 850-plus receiving yards since 2008. ... Brett Favre is 22-10 against the Bears in his career. ... DE Jared Allen aims for his third straight game against Chicago with two-plus sacks. Favre has thrown two touchdown passes and 13 interceptions in his past six games against the Bears. Three of those interceptions have been returned for touchdowns. The Bears were 5-1 in those games, all of which came against Green Bay. Every year stands on its own merits, but history is history.
