I agree to an extent, but if we could sign a veteran who has good credentials "cheap" with an incentive laden contract based on playing time, a one year deal, what would it hurt? If Forte is the RB we hope he will be the veteran brought in would never reach his incentives and be a cheap insurance policy. If Forte gets injured, or does not perform like we hope and expect him to, then the veteran backup would be a valuable asset to the team.

I honestly think St Clair would be an excellent starting OG for us. As a OT I thought he sucked, but when they switched him to OG late in the season I thought he did an excellent job. However, the Bears seem to like him as backup to OT. Maybe if we couldget some depth at OT they would consider leaving him at OG. I would love to see a Lineup of OLT - Williams OLG - St Clair OC - Kreutz ORG - Graza ORT - Tait

I would feel better if we added a veteran backup at RB, maybe the likes of Kevin Jones, and a veteran #3 QB, does not have to be anyone spectacular, if he were he would not sign to be a #3, but someone with a season or two of experience to fall back on, like a P Simms, if released. I would also like to see the Bears pick up some depth for our OL when rosters are trimmed.

Where I differ with you is that IMO a leader does this off the side, not in the media. By calling out others in public it contradicts his comments on how he felt his contract situation was handled correctly, by keeping it out of the media and not distracting the team. Then he would turn around and use the media to "insinuate" negatives about his team mates, including 2 Pro Bowlers he plays next to?

In this thread most of us have been praising Tommy Harris for being such an outstanding "TEAM" player with great leadership ability and character. I agree. AND BECAUSE OF THAT - I think the whole idea that he is calling out his team mates, which would only cause problems in the clubhouse, ridiculous. If it were true, then he just blew his image I had of him.

You know what impressed me the most? The last 2 paragraphs of the story on the Bears website about Harris: When was the last time you heard a player say they do not think players should be getting the money they get paid? I do not think I have ever heard a player say that. Then the fact that the first thing on his mind is that he wants to make the Bears' organization proud. I think I will now finally go out and buy a new Bears Jersey. It will not be 54, although I love Url, it will be 91.

Getting Harris out of the way will allow the Bears to get Url's situation taken care of. I think one of the stumbling blocks for the Bears in trying to deal with Url was not knowing what it would take to complete the Harris deal. He was obviously top priority over Url because Url was already under contract. Now the Bears can step back, check their books, and see what they can afford to do to keep Url happy. This signing is another great move by the front office of the Bears. For a franchise who everyone likes to take shots at saying they are "cheap" it sure seems to me they do a mighty fine job of rewarding players for performance on the field.
