  1. PS, the best draft website is www.nfldraftcountdown.com

Not sure, but any site who has us taking QB Woodson (12th ?) in the first with OLT Clady still on the board loses a little "flavor" for me.

Looks like a good site, but never did like seeing all the boards (and there are many) showing us taking Woodson. I would not like that selection at all for us in the 1st.

  2. good point.

Pix the Browns O is a lot better teams can't afford to kick away from Cribbs & give the O better field position

Agreed, that is why I said

What would a high powered ofense like NEP or IND do with a "Hester" in their lineup? Could you imagine those 2 offenses with the field position a player like Hester would give them? OUCH!!

Clevelands offense is definately prolific and if we had an O like theirs, what would teams do with Hester? My guess is they would have to gamble and kick to him because they could not allow us to start from our 40 every series.

  3. Im surprised so many people are so high on Turner. Change of pace backs that go to new teams rarely live up to expectations. I think someone like Fargas or Jamal Lewis would be cheaper and could be effective here.

I like Fargas a lot for the Bears. He is an excellent RB and still quite young.

I like J Lewis (was wanting the Bears to draft him when he first came out) but is no longer young and has had extensive injuries over the years. I do not see him coming to the Bears.

I also like J Jones from Dallas, if Dallas decides to let him go.

So I would go with Fargas, J Jones, or Turner, whichever we could get at the most reasonable cost. I think either of the 3 would be an excellent addition to our team.

  4. Football's Future (a good draft website) has Baker as the number 2 OT prospect and high on their overall board. I am not speaking first hand here as I have already admitted not having time to watch the college scene this year, but this is what they have to say about Baker:

Sam Baker OT 6'5 305 USC

    By: Robert Davis

Baker redshirted his first season at USC, and has been in the starting lineup since stepping on the field. He was a freshmen AA in 2004, then became an All American his sophomore and junior years as well. He enters as one of the top tackle prospects in the nation, and is a Playboy AA.

Baker is an excellent all around offensive tackle prospect. He is a four year starter at left tackle for USC, and has done an excellent job keeping John David Booty and Matt Leinart clean. He is a solid athlete, with the ability to move well laterally, keeping defenders away from his QB in pass protection. Baker is also sound at the point of attack, and can push defenders around to clear out room in the running game.

It is hard to criticize Baker’s game, but if pressed, it is that he does not have any one truly amazing physical trait. He is not a mammoth offensive lineman that can just drive defenders into the ground, and he’s not the athletic freak that can mirror every end he faces. He also had knee surgery in January, and will need to prove everything is clear with that as the season approaches.

Sam Baker is a well known prospect, and enters the year as a solid first rounder. He has a chance to rival Jake Long as the first tackle selected, but should be taken in the Top 25 in any circumstance.

  5. We have to bring in competition for Benson.

Obviously if he costs too much Turner is a no go.

However, the prospect of starting Berrian (if resigned) with his speed along with the Windy City Flyer at WR and Michael "the Burner" Turner at RB is very intriguing, YES????

Talk about speed on the O, OUCH!!!!

  6. Cribbs is good, Hester is better.

How many teams game plan against Cribbs Like they do Hester? I doubt many if any.

What would a high powered ofense like NEP or IND do with a "Hester" in their lineup? Could you imagine those 2 offenses with the field position a player like Hester would give them? OUCH!!

  7. I think we get that money back.

Logic would say we get that 1.73 MIL added back into our cap figure. I think you are right.

I do not know if you ever saw the cap breakdown article LT2_3 produced and allowed me to post on the front page of Bearstalk.com but it was outstanding material, giving each players contract status and what it would cost (or our gain) if the player were cut from our roster. Best I had ever seen. I am hoping he will be able to come up with a current article of similar note for us here at TalkBears.com.

  8. One of our biggest mistakes in the offseason was that we didn't bring in real competition for Benson. Garett Wolfe, who I think needs to be moved to WR, is not competition. Hopefully the Bears put him on a specialized workout and diet where he turns most of the flab into muscle, but he's still gotta keep some flab. There's still hope for Benson. He isn't a bust yet, but he's close.

Rusty needs to sit down with him and give him instructions to be followed to the letter or he does not remain the starter. The RB coach has to sit down with him and get into his head and let him know exactly what he needs to do to remain the number 1 RB for this team. Lovie needs to sit down with him and let him know he completely backs the RB coach and Rusty. The line has to be drawn.

Benson has all the ability in the world to be a top 5 RB in the NFL. Anyone who watched this guy at Texas knows he has the tools. Unfortunately, it takes more than just tools. It takes commitment and attitude. He is currently a head case. He needs to get off his ass and use the abilities he showed in college. If he does not, he will be a lost cause.

  9. LT2_3

I know it is time consuming to do and I am sure you have a full plate as it is but if ever we needed your cap breakdown, this is it.

With so many holes to fill in our lineup, many of us are anxious to find out our current cap situation and what savings or "Hits" we would get for releasing certain players on our roster we have questions about.

I hope you can work your magic one more time for us and give us the info we are desperatly seeking!! Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

  10. I like AP as a #2 RB but not as a #1. I, like many, have questions about CB (I doubt his mental approach to the game than his abilities. I think he could be the RB he was in Texas if his attitude was the same as it was then).

We need to bring in someone. Draft a RB, pick up a J Jones, Turner, or ??? I do not care how we do it but bring in a legitimate contender for our #1.

  11. I've got a BAD feeling that if we paid Berrian, he'll be likely to regress. And if we paid someone to come in, we'll likely be dissappointed the way we have been with Moose. IMO, our WR's will be bad reguardless, so we're better off signing guys on the cheap, hoping Bradley/Hester/Olsen continue to develop, and looking to the draft.

Unless we get a competent starter at QB, an OL to protect him, a RB to give the opposing D something to worry about, and an OC who knows what the hell he is doing, you are probably right.

  12. 1st, FORGET QB in the first, a luxury we can not afford.

The only player who may possibly be available at 14 that would tempt me NOT to draft a LOT first would be Phillips. With the depth of the draft for OL, and our need to solidify our Safety position, unless we pick up a player like Hamlin in FA, Phillips would be hard to pass on if available.

  13. In the case of Berrian or any WR it is important to them when they sign that contract they are doing so with a team with the system & QB to allow them to be productive and "shine" so that the next contract becomes even bigger. If Berrian had been playing on a team with a star QB and effective offensive scheme to highlight WRs he would have been a Pro Bowl WR by now, or at least a top 10 in HIGH demand. He may sign with the Bears but they will have to out bid all other suitors.

  14. I do not think Turner is going anywhere, but it did not forsee R Rivera leaving either. If Turner is replaced, Cameron would bring great creditials to the job. God knows we need all the help we can get.

Martz, Cameron, Mularckey, & Sporano - 4 excellent candidates to replace Turner. If the Bears ever wanted to replace Turner, what better time to do so?

  15. I think the supplemental pick would work out for the following year and not this year, but I'm not 100% on that. I would imagine that barring major injury, if we lost Briggs we would get the highlest level of supplmental pick. I can't envision the Bears getting any supplemental picks for this year (unless somehow Gage gets the Bears a supplemental pick and he was signed off the scrap heap for a minimum amount which I think would effect whether the Bears would get any compensation).

You are correct, compensatory picks awarded to the Bears for Players loss via FA versus players gained via FA this year would not be awarded until the 2009 draft.

  16. Does anyone know what kind of situation the Bears are in for the 08 cap, and whether cutting people like Moose, Benson, Griese, Walker and Archuletta would be beneficial/harmful from a cap standpoint. Would be nice to know if some potentially helpful players (Starks, Faneca, Hackett, Porter etc) are even feasible given our cap situaiton.

Calling LT2_3 - Calling LT2_3 - we need your help...... LOL Where is our cap expert when we need him :notworthy

  17. I love Mike Brown but he has absolutely zero trade value. If kept on the roster, they must bring in someone as a contingency plan. He cannot be the only option.

    Peace :bears

I agree, as much as I would love to see him play 16 games next year, I fear he may not be able to give us 8. We say how valuable the Safety position is in the schemes run by Lovie & BB. We need a good FA pickup or a day one draft selection who can contribute his rookie season.

  18. Id rather keep Brown and trade Anderson. He might still have good value because of his rookie year and because he is signed to a small contract.

I want to see us keep both, A Brown as starter with AO, Anderson as a backup & situational pass rusher.

Brown is cheap, you will not find a better bargain at DE than he is right now and he is a very good DE to boot. Anderson has too much potential to let go. Killer 1st year, hit the wall in his 2nd, but may wind up being a kick butt DE with a little more grooming.
