So assuming Poles trades the 1 st pick, who will he take with pick 9 and the extra pick in round 2? I saying a WR and edge  not in any particular order.

My guess, he first trades with one of the teams in the top five. As hot as this pick will be, the bidding will be heated. I honestly believe for a small drop in the order, we can get a 2nd this year and at least a 1st for 2025, possibly more. Then with that pick we draft a QB to develop along with, with #9, the top WR available.

If, a big IF, he felt the QB could be taken later, another trade down for more picks before we make our first selection at #9.

    I’m this order:
    C - Connor Williams
    WR2 - Calvin Ridley
    LT - Tyron Smith

I'm all in on C Williams (heard good things) and C Ridley (are they seriously going to let this guy go to FA?) Don't know T Smith.

Calvin Ridley, if he hits the market place, will be an expensive get. Might be the top FA WR. Had 1K yds & 8 TDs in 2013. The guy is damn good. I can't believe Jacksonville would let him leave without tagging him.

I’m a big Wolverines fan in addition to being an even bigger Bears fan.  No way I wanted Harbaugh here.  I’ll leave it at that.  The OP in this thread was way over top.  This front office is a clown show?  I strongly disagree.

The thing I found interesting that it has been reported the NFL will not provide Harbaugh a "safe harbor" ie. his alleged NCAA rules violations.

He has two ongoing investigations. One for recruiting violations. One for sign-stealing. If the NCAA finds him in violation of the rules, the NFL may very well take disciplinary measures against him.

That in itself is where the problem comes , you say it has to meet your criteria or their argument is silly and weak. Someone shows you that their opinion has happened before but because its not a high percentage the take is ,it doesn't count. Its not 50/50 but it sure in hell ain't 95/05 either. The fact it's possible is enough of a argument to have an opinion.

    Agree, 100%.

It's not in the mainstream press, but I am a Patreon follower of a guy who has a YouTube channel. He often has Bears beat reporters like Adam Rank and Courtney Cronin on his show, and he has been on Adam Ranks show too, he also has current and former players on his show. He does excellent tape breakdown too.

I've followed him for quite a while, and he doesnt usually do breaking news type stuff, and he hasnt been wrong about anything hes reported in the last few years Ive been watching him. He's never been a click baiter that I have seen, and hes not a narrative guy - he gives even handed analysis and says both good and bad things about whoever he is discussing.

He says he had two separate sources inside Halas Hall that told him that Warren disagreed strongly with Poles about keeping Eberflus and that is got "heated" between them, and McCaskey and Poles overruled him. There was nothing specific about Warren and Harbaugh in the report. He also said he couldnt reveal his sources.

We do know that Warren is angry about leaks, and that was part of Cliff Steins firing.

People can dismiss it if they like, but personally I bet it's true. Like I said, he is not known for sensational stories or inside info or anything like that, and he let it slip inside a discussion, it wasnt the headline or anything, so it wasnt clickbait, because no one would have seen it unless they were already reading his article which didnt say anything about it in the headline. He kind of let it slip as evidence that he thought Eberflus was coming back (this was before the announcement).

Then I don't ever want to sit down at a poker table with Warren because he sure seemed sincere when he stated publicly that we had the right people in place, meaning Poles and Flus.

Reports say that Warren was heated with Poles about Poles keeping Eberflus. If those reports are true then maybe Warren wanted Harbaugh?

I agree that if we offered Harbaugh the job he would have seriously considered it.

I have not read that anywhere, and I send a lot of time reading articles about the Bears to see what others are saying. Do you have a link?

For the record, again, I did not call anyones opinion inane or insane.

I simply said that arguing that because Dick Vermeil was bad then good means that Eberflus who has been bad must then then be good is inane.

If you like Eberflus that fine. I respect and disagree with it. Especially given other options like Harbaugh.

But if you say "cows are usually blue so therefore Eberflus will be good" THAT would be inane. Not the Eberflus will be good part, the cows are blue part.

Is literally no one understanding my point? And choosing instead to misunderstand me as being disrespectful to people's opinions?

I am calling the logical argument if A then B inane, not the opinion it supports.

The way I read his posting was that there is historical proof that it is possible for a HC to start off with a poor record of wins and losses, and turn it around. (He agrees that it is not guaranteed Flus will do so, just that it is possible as history has proven!) I do not find that inane. Many first time HCs start their career off with a team in rebuild mode. It takes time and patience.

To say his use of historical data to support his opinion inane, to me is calling his opinion inane. So I therefore can see why he might be offended.

Now do the percentages. How likely is that?

Or is the point just "ya never know" and "anything's possible" - if thats it, why doesnt a NEW QB or coach also get the "ya never know" benefit? I mean they could turn out to be amazing too right? It's also POSSIBLE.

The "factual" examples only prove its POSSIBLE (which everyone already knows and agrees) not that its LIKELY.

Make a different argument about why you like Eberflus or Fields. Tell us why you think it's LIKELY they will succeed.

Otherwise, why not just bring Cutler out of retirement because Kurt Warner? Or just run naked through the neighborhood? Someone might be impressed by it and give you a million dollars. I mean it's POSSIBLE so that means its a good idea right?!

It's mind boggling that the difference between possible and likely escapes anyone's understanding.

I think Flus will prove to be a very good HC, one that can be very successful. I don't know of any HC that, given what he had to work with to begin his tenure, and the loss of his DC during this season, could have done much better. Yes, in our opinion, he screwed the pooch a few times. Tell me any HC that hasn't! Every HC I have ever seen on the sidelines has made questionable calls.

I think Fields will be a very good QB, one that is more than capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl. (I hope it is the Bears and not some team that got him cheap in a trade.) However, like all QBs, he needs pass protection from the OL, reliable targets, and a good OC calling plays. These requirements do not make him a bad QB, it is a basic requirement that needs to be met for any quarterback to maximize his skill set.

I have no proof. It's my gut feeling. I could be wrong. I am 75 years old and have been an avid fan forever. Hell, I think I was still in diapers when a fan of the Baltimore Colts, the team of choice for those of us in lower Delaware, my home as a kid. I've been wrong before. This time I believe I am correct in my evaluation.

You will lose your shirt if you bet on sports, especially football, based on statistics and history. Every week there is an upset that proves stats and expert analysis doesn't mean shit. You can take your percentages that you use for proof and  use them. I understand. I once tried to do so myself, until I realized that sometimes you just have to trust your gut.

I believe in Flus. I believe in Fields. If you think that is inane, so be it.

His base was 3-4 but they were in a 4-2 with the nickel back 60% of the time. Vic was a very good coach but his philosophy is quite different from Flus, it won't happen.

OK, as I was typing it I added the question because it came to mind he was a 3-4 guy. Won't work. My Bad.

  10. Vic Fangio just left Miami after one season, reason wasn't given on the report I just heard on Total Access.

Now that is one hell of a DC to add to the Bears' staff! Come back to Chicago, Vic, we love ya'.

(Damn, I can't remember, did he run a 3 or 4 man front?)

  11. Like several have expressed, I was concerned this was not a "done deal." Especially since it appears other teams were interviewing him for OC (NOS for one). However, if the article I have given the link to below is correct, then my fear was unfounded.

It appears, according to this article, Waldron is already interviewing to fill his staff positions, including three coaches who were with him in Seattle.

    Quote

According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Waldron is setting up interviews with some former Seahawks co-workers and coaches — Chad Morton, Sanjay Lal and Kerry Joseph, among others — for staff positions.

Morton served as the Seahawks run game coordinator and running backs coach; Lal served as Seattle’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach; and Joseph has served as the Seahawks’ assistant wide receivers coach and later assistant quarterbacks coach under Waldron.

The assumption is those candidates would serve in the same roles: Morton as running backs coach (potentially also run game coordinator), Lal as wide receivers coach (potentially also pass game coordinator) and Joseph as quarterbacks coach or assistant quarterbacks coach.

Bears OC Shane Waldron already working on filling out his staff

I love it. Talk about getting off the bus running, this immediately brings continuity to the OC & his staff.

There was also mention of Greg Olsen but he may be in line for a OC position with another team. Time will tell.

  12. Brushing up on my knowledge of our new OC Waldron, I was encouraged with these two quotes from an article on WindyCityGridiron.com:

    Quote

Perhaps most promisingly, Waldron has proven adept at helping quarterbacks notorious for holding onto the ball, like Russell Wilson and Geno Smith, get throws off more quickly and play in rhythm. That track record could serve the Bears as well regardless of which direction they go at quarterback, as Justin Fields and Caleb Williams, for example, both have high time-to-throw numbers.

    Quote

Waldron had both Geno Smith and Russell Wilson getting the ball out faster.

Geno’s time to throw (TTT) was above 3s his first two years starting with the Jets. With Waldron: 2.79 and 2.73.

Russ is a career 3s guy. With Waldron in 2021: 2.78.

at the very least, theyre gathering info on Caleb

You know, at first I thought it might be a "tell" that they were interested in more info on Caleb, but then I realized that every team looking to draft their next "franchise QB" will be asking Kingsbury his opinions (along with Caleb's HC, Teammates, relatives, friends, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the teams had a background check run on him. By the time they finish, they will not only know what brand of toilet paper he prefers, but which hand he uses to wipe his ass with. LOL)

he has a losing record wherever he coached... nfl or college. not sure that would make me jump for joy.

Hell's Bells, I sure don't think I would ever want him as a HC, but as an OC, I like the idea. ?

Also, sometimes guys are better in a 2nd gig, and in this case Kliff would not immediately go from Boys2Men as the HC like he did with the Cards. Being an OC when you already have a HC would allow him to solely focus 100% of his attention on the offense.

The Bears must be very high on Kingsbury as I read the Bear's brass flew to the west coast to interview him. If they plan on drafting Williams, it would be a brilliant move to sign him as our OC.

I just watched a Greg Gabriel podcast and come to find out he  has been employed by the Bears over the last 3 years. He is involved in work comp cases related to Bears released injured players. A huge friend with Stein who hired him. He said Warren wants his guys in place dealing with finances. Said the McCaskys loved Stein but let Warren fire him, showing their not in control anymore.

Also was talking about scouting on Williams. He said some things will come out that doesn't look good on his behalf but is the most talented QB in the draft . He said he's not guaranteed he goes # 1. He said that if they pass on a player , they always have a reason. Character, injury history, leadership issues. He said they passed on Pickens (WR) because of attitude issues. Same for Jaylon Carter.

So Greg said "some things will come out that doesn't look good." Since he also states Williams is the most talented QB in the draft, one can only assume the "some things" are related to character issues. He then adds that the Bears passed on Pickens and Carter because of character issues. Seems to me he is trying to tell us something without betraying any confidence.

  17. Just heard on NFL Total Access that Pierce has been retained as the HC for the Raiders. So much hype about Harbough going there, but obvious not.

Last year he did some interviews. Is just using the threat to encourage Michigan to up the ante? LOL

  18. I was upset when I first learned of Cliff Stein leaving the Bears. I was even more alarmed that it was rumored that Warren was the one who showed him the door. I just read an interesting article describing in detail the rise and fall of Cliff Stein and now fully understand why he was dismissed.

The article describes Stein's change in approach to contract negotiations that had become an issue with players and their agents. It also mentioned that he felt Phillips and Stein mishandled negotiations with Arlington Heights which has led to a stalemate in Warren's plans for a stadium there. Finally, it states Warren is concerned that there are "leaks" in the front office of the organization and future dismissals might be announced in the near future.

An interesting article that goes much further in detail than what I just noted:

Cliff Stein’s rise and fall and what led to his dismissal

We can say that's just the Bears, but  they have different people running it now, so I don't think it's the same. IMO, I think fans have to have instant success or it's burn it down. I think Poles is smart and want to see how his plan turns out. Not saying he's going to be successful but he's the one they hired. I'm giving him the third year before I jump into the burn it down group. I feel that's fair, rarely does anyone rebuild a franchise in 2 years.

I'm tired of GMs, like Pace, trying to do a quick fix and rebuild thru free agency deals, most often overspending and putting us in cap hell. I like the fact that Poles is "attempting" to rebuild by using the draft with FA as a last recourse if a player can be obtained at reasonable cost.

  20. It was certainly a good list but in my mind the Philadelphia collapse really tops the list for me. How a team, without major injuries depleting their roster, can go from being the top rated team in the league to win the super bowl to losing to Tampa Bay in the wild card round is beyond me. What the hell happened? I bet their fan base is asking the same thing.

  21. I just saw this on NFL.com, I don't recall hearing this before, or reading it here.

The Bears interviewed former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman for their OC position on Monday, NFL Network's Peter Schrager reported.
