  1. I just saw this proposed trade on NFL.com as one of three possible round 1 trades that would be a win/win for teams involved. This one had Chicago trading #9 to KCC. I personally do not like the deal. The first, being the last pick of rd 1, and he second rounder, again near the bottom of round 2, are not much better than a 2nd & 3rd instead of a 1st & 2nd. The extra 4th round is cool, but the 2025 #1 will probably be near the end of round 1.

What do you guys think? Would you do this trade?

    BEARS RECEIVE:

    2024 first-round pick (No. 32 overall) | 590 points
    2024 second-round pick (No. 64) | 270 points
    2024 fourth-round pick (No. 131) | 41 points
2025 first-round pick | 740 points (valued at the 24th pick in the round)

  2. I'm noticing some recent mock drafts showing the Bears trading down and then drafting JC Latham (Alabama · OT).

Is he a blue-chip OT? I don't know the guy.

On a side note, the last one I saw with this trade-down scenario pissed me off because they had us trading down with the Colts, who then selected Nabers at #9. If the Bears passed on Nabers I'd be pissed.

  3. Anthony Thomas was the last Bear player to be named OROY (in 2001).

After 23 years, Caleb Williams wins OROY.

The runner-up to CW for OROY is Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears.

    One can only dream. ?

  4. Just saw this article on NFL.com.

I have always thought highly of Charles David as an analyst for NFL.com. He has had success identifying players who are not as well known as the ones getting all of the hype, but wind up being drafted and making rosters.

This article identifies 16 prospects that he thinks could be drafted on day 2 or 3 of the draft. The only one I recognized was QB Rattler. There were several DTs, Edge, OGs, an OT, and a Center that he is high on. Maybe you guys are familiar with some of them.

or maybe like in 1995 trading trace armstrong a 7-10 sack defensive end for a 2nd and 3rd round pick to miami and then drafting tod saurkraut a freaking punter in the 2nd round and a non descript guard in the 3rd?

brilliant, trade a producing defensive end for a punter and nothing guard. only mikey the genius gm could come up with that.

100% - That was vintage Mikey.

for sure if our scouts are telling Poles that, and that's what he's seeing, then for sure. No reason to trade up.

But *IF* you think he's the next coming, and head and shoulders above the others, if you think you've got Randy Moss here, I think you do it.

Personally, I haven't seen enough film on them to know either way. I know they are all good.

I watched film on the top three and I seriously am not sure the order I would select them. They are all fantastic, each with their own strengths. If either one of the three are there at 9, I would be disappointed if we did not stay put and draft him. That said, I'd get over my disappointment if we wound up with Thomas. LOL

I think the question would be, who else would take him first, and where. If you had a very good feeling his first other suitor would be in round 6, then you can wait until 5 to take him?

True. But I first responded to a 'what if' draft. He had multiple trade-backs, accumulating extra picks. Therefore, I thought picking a Punter over a player who would probably not contribute this year would be best. The pick, #122, was the last of the picks he had accumulated with the trade downs. It was for that specific scenario that I suggested using it for a punter.

I don't advocate drafting a punter unless we have accumulated extra draft capital. There will always be UDFA punters to bring in for tryouts.

  8. This is an extremely talented group of receivers who are available in this year's draft. I love MHJ, but Nabers and R.O. are also going to be pro bowl-caliber WRs. We could trade down, pick up B Thomas, and not miss a beat. The guy is awesome. I guess what I am saying is hell no, don't give up draft capital to select one of the top three. Let one of them fall to us, or trade back to mid-first and select Thomas.

Take a look at historical punters and their draft position Pix

You mean like Ray Guy of Oakland drafted #23, round one, in 1973 and played his entire career, 14 seasons, for the Raiders?

LOL - Okay, I understand your point. But if we wound up with let's say 8 picks instead of 4 because of multiple trade downs, and it was a choice between selecting a practice squad player that might a year or two down the road make it to the playing field, or selecting a punter who can, from day one, help us gain better field position, I choose the punter every time.

Im not taking a punter in the fourth round. That's just crazy talk. I would probably take the BYU punter in the sixth though.

If we only had 4 picks, of course, it's 'crazy talk.'

In a scenario where multiple trade-downs result in a surplus of picks, I believe it's a strategic move to consider adding a top punter to our special teams. I hold a strong belief that special teams play will be crucial this year, especially with the increased significance of kickoff returns. Mark my words, there will be multiple games where ST play will be the decisive factor in the outcome of the game.

Everyone knows who the first pick is. What happens at 9 is the question. This  is my take and why.

    1) Caleb Williams- no brainer

    9) trade with LV to 13 and also get pick 77

13). Trade with Cinn to 20 and get pick 80

    20) Chop Robinson / Chop is raw but has speed and off the chart athletics. Played the a                                          true DE position and will only be 21 this year. 6'3" 255 at 4.48 speed

    RAS score 9.69

    75) Mo Kamara/ edge highly productive , 6'2" 250 at 4.57 speed. Compares to Brandon Graham RAS 8.82

    77) Tez Walker/ WR natural playmaker with 4.36 speed. 18 TDs in last 20 games RAS 9.87

80 )Tanor Bortolini / OC   can play center and  guard and future starter. Great athlete. RAS 9.79

    122) Tip Reiman/ TE great athlete at 6'5" 275 with 4.64 speed. RAS 9.93

I used the Rich Hill chart for trade value  and draft buzz and GBND report for content.

With limited picks I drafted a rotational WR with speed and upside.

Robinson was the last of the top DEs available in the first round. Chop is young and has a lot of growth to develop. Also played a true DE position. Also drafted Kamara giving more depth . Walker is capable of taking reps at 3 T that helps fill depth at DT.

Bortollini has position flexibility and is a great athlete. May take one to two years but could be our future starting center.

Rieman  is a great blocker that wasn't used much as a receiver. Has football IQ and reliable hands.

I'd love it if this happened. The problem with fan drafts involving trades is that they seldom happen. We'd like to believe that the team we have lined up a trade with would accept our offer, but the likelihood, ????

Still, the trade scenarios were reasonable and the players selected would be awesome additions to the team. The only change I would have made is to take pick 122 and draft Punter Tory Taylor from Iowa. At 6'4" 234 lbs, the guy is a stud kicker with power. I think his addition would be far more beneficial to the Bears than a blocking TE prospect.

There is a fine-looking crop of Punters this year. I drew one out of the hat, but any of the top-rated Punters will be a big improvement over what we had on ST last year.

Agree with all all of that. If CW was coming here 3 years ago , it would have been difficult for him to.

If we had the roster from 3 years ago, Poles would be trading the pick, not drafting Williams. Fortunately, Poles has done an amazing job improving the Bears to the point where we can support a rookie QB. We just need to be patient for one more year while Poles gets us ready to be contenders.

  13. Gotta love Montez Sweat.

First, today I read he is adamant that the Bears are NOT going to lose to the Packers. He has only played one game as a Bear against the Packers, and we lost. He's had enough, already.

Second, I now read he is predicting a huge year for Gervon Dexter. If he is right, the defense takes another step toward total domination.

    Quote

Sweat recently appeared on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long, where he had high praise for defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, even going so far to predict a breakout season for last year’s second-round rookie.

“You’re gonna see man. He’s pretty good,” Sweat said about Dexter. “I feel like he’s still just kind of unlocking himself and being himself. And I think that’s gonna really flourish this year, but he’s a really talented kid. He’s one of those quick [defensive] tackles and was strong as hell. It’s really is really a sight to see. But yeah, he’s gonna jump out on on the scene for sure.”

  14. It was announced on NFL.com that 13 players have accepted invitations to attend the draft.

    An impressive list:

    Table inside Article
    Name College Position
    Terrion Arnold Alabama Cornerback
    Jayden Daniels LSU Quarterback
Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State Wide receiver
    J.C. Latham Alabama Offensive tackle
    Laiatu Latu UCLA Edge rusher
    Drake Maye North Carolina Quarterback
    Quinyon Mitchell Toledo Cornerback
    Malik Nabers LSU Wide receiver
    Rome Odunze Washington Wide receiver
    Darius Robinson Missouri Edge rusher
Brian Thomas Jr. LSU Wide receiver
    Dallas Turner Alabama Edge rusher
    Caleb Williams USC Quarterback

    Let me add two notes.

Before anyone complains, this was a copy-and-paste; I did not choose the order in which they were listed! It appears they chose to go in alphabetical order and not by projected draft ratings.

I'm reasonably sure others may be added to the list before the draft. Please add them when announced.

I have a The Athletic subscription, I'll see if it lets m post it on here. He's my favorite draft guide guy. He isnt  perfect on his analysis but gets it right most the time.

The Athletic is by far my favorite site to visit, and "The Beast" is an awesome publication for subscribers. It's the best draft guide available, IMO.

*IF* Caleb is who we think he is, that wouldnt be enough.

*IF* Caleb will develop into the QB I envision, you are absolutely correct.

    Damn, I hate *IFs* LOL

  17. At this point, it would take Washington's incredibly rich trade offer to convince Poles to trade down.

If they offered something completely crazy such as this, I'd trade:

    This year's 1st & both 2nd round picks, along with their 1st rd selections for 2025 & 2026.

I believe it would take something that crazy for Poles to trade the #1.

I don’t ever remember being this excited to be a Bears fan. C’mon CW let’s go to the playoffs!

As we've all said repeatedly, it starts in the trenches.

If our OL can give CW a clean pocket, with the offensive weapons we have, there is no reason why CW can't help us become a top 5 offense.

If we can support Sweat in pressuring the quarterback (requiring a 3T and Edge to complement him), there's no reason we can't boast a top-five Defense. Our DB group is poised to shine.

Now, we all need to stay healthy and safe so we can enjoy another Super Bowl Victory.

That is a smoke screen. Some GM wants him to drop.

We also have DJM, KA, and Kmet as mentors for a young wide receiver who needs structure. This reminds me of Randy Moss when he entered the draft. He slid down the first round, and teams passed him because of off-field issues. We passed on Moss. Let's not make the same mistake and pass on this kid. If Nabers is there at 9, I say run, do not walk, to turn in the card.

  20. I think there will be games where this new KO ruling is the deciding factor. Teams that figure out how to use it to gain field position and KO return TDs will have a huge advantage.

Is Hightower capable? Last year, we were ranked 22nd in special teams. That's not a wow factor. I was not impressed with his resume when he was first hired.

There will be teams who will figure out plays off of this new ruling to maximize its potential.

A player can holdout, but can't go back to college as far as I know. They can re-enter the draft the following year.

Yes, you and 'Kill' are probably right. I thought it changed recently with the NILs (allowing players to earn money from their sport before turning pro), but trying to research the question, it I am finding reports that the team drafting the players sustains rights to that player for one year. If they do not sign him, or trade him, after one year he can re-enter the draft.

I still don't like the fact a player can screw a team who drafts him!

But then again, I was a die-hard Colts fan growing up in the 50's and 60's and still find myself pissed off at Elway. (Damn, I have held a grudge for over 5 decades. LOL)
