  1. JF is not the guy. I dont know if I have the heart to start cheering for a tankathon yet. I guess id like to see Fields grow and prove me wrong, but Im at like 90% sure right now, and if the Jets offered us a 2nd rounder for him, Id take it right now.
  2. They should run the ball over the Davis Wright side all season cuz theyre good
  3. Ugh! Too soon - but youre right
  4. True and also the reason we passed on Carter isnt because we thought Dexter was the better player, it's because Carter is (potentially) a character problem, a suspension risk, a cancer in the locker room etc. And that doesn't come out in week 1 tape. Also, even if Philly does manage to keep him in a good place, it is because they have so many talented veteran DL who can provide leadership. It doesnt mean he wouldnt have run roughshod over these coaches and been a real problem. Hell I still dont even know what happened with Davis all offseason. So I still think we made the right choice passing on him no matter how well he plays in Philadelphia.
  5. One of the best calls the Packers made last week was on a formation where the running back was the outside receiver, and that pulled Edmunds over to cover him, and left the middle open for someone else. We cant always play zone, but when we do, I hope to see Edmunds prowling the middle. Of course there are other ways to challenge nickels without playing the middle of the field, but that does take away a big part of that game for sure.
  6. I'm still watching tape,. but I've only seen Nate Davis screw up on one play. I was ready to hate on him for all the preseason time he missed, but honestly, the right side of the OL did OK in everything I've seen so far. Maybe they break down later in the game, but so far, Nate screwed up one play and Wright has been solid. Fields on the other hand is a disaster. DJ Moore was open all over the place.
  7. PFF, at best, is completely random. Time and time again they pronounce things are true that anyone watching the game can see are not even close to being true. I want to see us succeed this year. I have hope that we can turn things around, but whether we are great or terrible, PFF is random.
  8. I just want to add that i was assuming that Davis played a bad game at RG because id read that, but ive been watching some of the film, and he hasnt looked bad at all so far. Maybe I havent seen the bad plays yet - Ill keep watching, but for now, Im keeping an open mind on him.
  9. I saw some limited tape - could be misleading, but he sure looked like he understands zone blocking - giving a bump to help a neighbor and then hunting out a linebacker etc. cant be much worse than Patrick.
  10. I think the whole thing went to sh*t when Eberflus went for it on 4th and 1 - what a totally idiotic move. Its SO bad, that I'm calling it strike one. Not every error will be a strike, but that one absolutely was. I could argue hes made others too, but lets call that one. learn from it, get better stop hiding the offense and trying to be so cute, establish an identity on offense, and things will be OK. But that's strike one.
  11. We were all so focused on Jenkins' and Whitehair's injuries, it didnt occur to anyone (or at least to me) that maybe we got Feeney as insurance against Davis who's been playing retiring games all offseason? Maybe that's what all the absences were? Anyway this is a disaster, and if Davis is really doing that to us, then F*ck him.
  12. no one ever said Carter isnt physically talented. Based on that alone, he should have been a top three pick. The reason we didnt touch him is character. We will see in a couple of years whether this was the right move, but his success on the field early doesnt address the reason people were concerned about him.
  13. not really. we have a lot of good young talent - the perfect situation to bring a young QB into with a supporting cast. that'd be the narrative anyway. Ill probably be saying that in 6 months. right now, just ugh.
  14. The Ghost of Gary Crowton haunts this team. Scientifically, we have to admit that Bears uniforms cannot execute bubble screens, no matter what year it is and who the players are. We've had so many coaches come in here thinking they are gonna outsmart other NFL professionals. Ugh. We need to be able to execute identity plays. Even when the defense knows it's coming. Stop trying to trick people, and have a running game that dominates physically and with better technique. We dont need to reinvent football with the TE sneak, and the bubble screens etc. Cant we have some organizational knowledge? Cant we learn from the last groups of coaches that already tried the exact same thing? Seriously, you revamp your RB room at least 3 deep, you spend cap and draft capital to shore up the right side of the OL. If you need 3rd and 1, freakin run power to the right side. And in the press conference afterwards Eberflus is still saying going for it on 4th and 1 there was a high percentage bet. OK coach. I'll tell ya what. I'll bet you cant roll a 1 thru a 4 on a 6 sided dice, and you can bet your house and Ill give you $1 if you win. Its a good bet. It pays off 2/3 of the time. Dont see the underlying problem? That was just wrong. 2 more like that, and youre fired midseason. You can try a lot of things, but that was just wrong.
  15. this is all dead on - well said. and the last line especially, we can talk about better play calling, and execution, but our DL is not going to put QBs under pressure this year, and that is going to lose us a bunch of games.
  16. They are clearly trying to protect Justin from sitting in the pocket and making a throw. Also, the line is letting way too much pressure. Time to look at Feeney. But in all of this, the worst is that the defensive line cannot generate pass pressure, that's why Love is looking so good. And that's gonna be a problem all season long. i really dont want to be like last season where we are rooting to lose. Why couldnt the coaches just call the game like we are a regular football team that calls plays we all know? With a QB who executes regular offensive plays? Maybe they know something we dont. Or maybe they are morons. Or Both!
  17. and Getsy. A few days ago I said there was no way the coaches were on the hot seat - well, I guess they're finding a way.
  18. We are clearly the better team, and bad coaching is killing us. Going for it on 4th and 1 there is as stupid as betting your house on a coin toss to win $1. Its that thing where the coach wants to be on the field. Let the players play, dont out-cute everyone with nonsense. The 3rd down call was the same thing - super cute with the TE doing it. If you get rid of the cuteness surprise "advantage" that play is only betting your big guys can move theirs. So why do that behind Patrick? Why not run Foreman behind Davis and Wright? And the false starts, and the over-reliance on screens. We spent the whole half emotionally digging out from bad coaching, when we should be up 14. Time to learn and make halftime adjustments guys, and write it down, dont go for it on 4th and 1 in that position ever again sheesh.
  19. Carolina has lost the first of its 17 games, dropping the opener 24-10 to the Atlanta Falcons. Every loss brings the Bears closer to draft Nirvana. I have a wish, and i think it has a good chance of happening, that we end up with the #1 pick AGAIN next year. Lets Go!
  20. me too - he'd better be a beast to have gotten so much special treatment/ then again, his film looks pretty beast-like. Im expecting the right side of the line to destroy anyone in the way of our running game.
  21. lol I know! I havent been this excited for a season in a long time. As to what you said above, 75% to 80% And Im somewhere above 65% - we are on the same page. And I know we are both rooting for it to happen. Its such a young and new team - it might look messy for a few weeks and still end up ok. Big game tomorrow and I wonder if our team or the Packers are ready for it. I suspect none are, and some weird sloppy crap might happen early. In other words - make SURE you make firm tackles in the first 10 minutes.
  22. so youre absolutely correct Adam that Fields hasnt had receivers or protection. Any QB would look bad in that situation. But logically, that means a good QB would look bad and so would a bad QB. Fields has to prove that he is a good QB. He has an excellent argument that he is a good QB and was surrounded by trash, but now that he has a better supporting cast, he still has to go out and do it. Nothing youve said "proves" it either way - good or bad. So basically you're saying you believe in him. And 65%, I agree. I just need to see it on the field this year to know. I believe in him, but I wouldn't bet my house on it (yet?).
