as I was writing that, I sort of thought of that too, and you're not wrong. It's a fine point, and one I agree with. It's just a gamble I guess if he starts to show up in the preseason. I don't know if he will amount to anything, or whether another team would want him bad enough to put him on the roster, but if you asked me today if I brought in a starting DE, and I had to cut Bell or Robinson, Id pick Robinson. The rest is a gamble, the odds of which I think you're correct about. So you could be a tiny bit of a poker player to keep Robinson, and keep both, or you could be 100% safe and lose Robinson. And I'm just wondering about Robinson's worth on this roster if we bring a starting caliber DE anyway. He'd be #5 then I guess? Or even #6?

I dunno if they want to risk Bell on the PS, they might just get rid of Robinson if they sign a starting caliber DE.

amen. you cant block anyone from the ground.

fans and sportswriters rely too heavily on combine data, because it's almost all we have. That's why you read a million articles about the 2 inches missing from Skoronski's arms etc. It becomes an echo chamber distorting just a few facts. When you watch tape you get a different idea of who these players are. I watched more tape (not highlights) this year than I ever have, and still, by the end of the first round i was almost out of names. I had never heard of Gervon Dexter. Or for that matter, Roschon Johnson. So I dont know much more than the sportswriters do either. Maybe less. Unfortunately, that was the surface level our previous administrations seemed to have about the players too, and we drafted one nightmare after another. Finally we have a coach, GM and President that know what they are doing. They wont hit on every player, but they are making good decisions and seem well prepared. For example, I think Carter wouldnt have worked out here, and we werent able to get Kancy or Breesee. So instead, we took a "shotgun" approach, drafting three promising players, each with upside and each with concerns. If one of them turns into a stud, it will have been worth it. I wont criticize them for taking one that doesnt work out if another at the same position in the same draft does - that's just smart betting, taking three swings at the ball to increase your chances of hitting a home run. So if these guys say Wypler wasnt all that, or we already have someone similar, I'm inclined to believe them! Sure is nice for a change.

Mustipher isnt even on the team anymore. And GOOD. I think Poles may be hoping to see what Kramer and Eislen can give him, with Whitehair and possibly Patrick as insurance right now. Should the right young center become available, I dont think we would hesitate, but for example Wypler was there for the taking for a while, and we must have felt we had similar talent already on the roster. And that may say as much about how they viewed Wypler as it does about being so confident in what we might have here.

well said. I agree with all of it, except I think Davis is more than just a starter quality. I think he's gonna be amazing. And with Darnell White next to him, that side of the oline is gonna be NASTY. Assuming Fields balls out from the pocket, I want WR Marvin Harrison Jr next year. if not, I want QB Caleb Williams. I want Carolina to be awful this year, so we can be like the Texans were this year and get two top 5 players (with a trade up from our 20th pick!) We have the horses on Offense now, I want to see us scoring over 24 in every game. If the defensive front holds, we win our share, if they dont, we know where to put some draft picks next year. My ideal scenario would be for Fields to destroy everyone from the pocket, and for us to draft Harrison Jr and a stud on the DL.

Somewhere Matt Nagy is saying "OH so THAT was the why"

Montogmery ran a 4.63 Khalil Herbert ran a 4.46 Foreman ran a 4.45 BUT Roschon's 10 yard split was 1.52 Montgomerys was 1.61 Khalil Herberts was 1.62 Foremans was 1.63 Nick Chubbs was 1.62 Jordan Howards was 1.66 Justin Fields was 1.59 Tyler Scotts was 1.51 DJ Moores was 1.54 So Roschon hits the hole faster, has more burst, but less top end speed. That's OK for a RB.

amen!

Yes, I think this is a real possibility too! I only put him at #3 on the depth chart for now. I think he is a real steal for us. I think WR Tyler Scott is gonna move up fast too. And remember, this staff has no problem playing rookies. Damn this is gonna be fun.
-
I think Foreman will be the first down starter back. I also think Roschon will move up the depth chart fast, but until he does, he is #3. The rookie DTs might well break thru and become starters too. We arent done at OC yet, there could be surprises there to come, and a Free Agent DE too. Herbert is a good back, but i have been watching some film on Foreman and damn he is good and strong. He's a better Montgomery (and I loved Montgomery). Herbert never really took over the starting job over Monty so that's why that's my guess. Let the best back win, and if it's Herbert, then lets go Herbert! Foreman is a better Monty with great vision who can bounce it outside (something Monty couldnt do) you gotta click the link and watch Foreman on youtube...

for sure. and I assume some of the backups will become starters too. plus we will probably pick up a Free Agent DE. THis will all change, and Ill update the graphic as it does. The weirdest part is that i put 3 LBs in and made NB Kyler Gordon a rotational player. I did it because if I put the D in nickel, then the front 4 might change.

I agree that 5 WR sets are risky, and not something youd do a lot. However, the new rookie RB was a QB in high school and can run a pretty multidimensional version of Wildcat, so if we want exotic sets, or to continue the QB run success from last year without risking Fields, he might be just the thing.
-
I think they are going to try all three rookie DTs at 3T knowing some of them can play nose if need be or they dont work out at 3T. I think they wish there was a clear 3T candidate, like if Carter had been a HITS guy, or if theyd gotten Kancey, so they are doing the shotgun approach, and seeing who steps up at 3T. But I think they know that Pickens is the most likely 3T, and Dexter could end up at NT. But theyll give them all a chance to be a hero at 3T, and that gives them the best chance of finding one thats a real starter.

I think the main reason we didnt draft Jalen Carter is that then we would have to be on Hard Knocks for sure. Take an ORT and they dont even want you LOL (yes Im kidding)
-
For sure, and his value projection is $14.4M/year - but thats on a 4 year deal etc. When it gets to this time of year, good players take cheaper one year deals, and figure they will get back into the market next year. I pulled $9M out of my butt as a generous figure, discounted from his true value because of the circumstance. But I surely don't know what it would really take. i just know if he doesnt play for someone this year, and play well, he doesnt cash in next year. And he and his agent know it too.
-
Olu maybe, but im not sold on AA at all.
-
I agree with this - hes a fast guy, but slow reaction time, I think there are ways to train that.
-
yeah, we either take a Center because we believe in him, or we trade back. With Whitehair in our pocket, we can afford to miss on the center this year if we dont think hes a legitimate steal.
-
yes this is our biggest need now. I dont see Ngakoue being that good or a long term answer, but on a one year deal for $9M, sure lets grab him.
-
yeah, great complimentary picks by Poles. Our biggest need now is Edge, but i dont think anyone left is gonna be a world beater. I figure we will sign a free agent to a one year deal (Ngakoue? Clowney? no one long term)
