I'm liking a lot of what Poles has done, but I think this was a mistake. Luckily, we didn't win the bidding. I like to hope he was learning info, or trying to jack up the price for someone else. Doing due diligence etc. But if he really meant to sign Wilson, it was a mistake. We didnt get him, so i cant blame Poles for it. Like I said, I dont know what his intentions were, how serious he was, etc. But this would have been a disaster. We will know more after Free Agency and the draft.

right. you lose two years of his rookie contract, but you get a guy with 2 years experience. It's like you drafted him two years ago with this years pick. It's not so bad at all. The real question in all of this, which will make this a great trade or a terrible one, is what kind of WR Claypool will be for us. If he is great, Poles is a genius, if he sucks, it's a real bad move. He has the traits and has shown it on film. let's hope our coaches can get him there. If they do, and he dominates, the 2nd round pick is no problem.

in the abstract, we paid too much. But given the lack of Free Agent WRs, and blue chip WRs in the draft, it makes more sense. And Claypool can still develop into a stud. I won't count that chicken while it's still an egg, but it's not a given that he is a flop either. Maybe his slowness to develop will cause Poles to get another high value WR and then when Claypool arrives, we could have an excellent WR room?

are you talking about the kid from TCU?
-
oh yeah, I agree

I think more than 5 Free Agents! But your overall point is right on, and it is the kind of sustainable plan that allows franchises to be competitive year in and out, even as the players change over time. Finally.
-
I fully agree. If we do this right, we wont ever have to again.

well only an extra second rounder in value above what they were already getting at #2. If someone wants to go from, say 4 to 1, thats gonna cost 1200 points.

ah yes! Thank you! Once again, Lovie Smith helping the Bears increase the value of their draft pick LOL

Yikes! Stay warm and stay safe Grizz!

YouTube just got the NFL Sunday Ticket rights, I wonder when we will know the true 2023 cap number.

lol and before I forget: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone here!

It depends. I agree we arent one player away, and if youre talking about the 9th pick or something, then what youre saying makes sense. But at some point you need a blue chip game changing QB and you need a blue chip game changer on defense. And the opportunity to get an Aaron Donald etc is rare, and worth doing if you already have your QB, then you build around them.
-
if you need a QB, yes! But at least one of those two will be around at #3! Probably both. But the team at #2 might not be the one that makes the pick - trade bait and all that!

Resign Rodgers to a 6 year $400 Million dollar deal with $300M of it as a signing bonus. I mean, you cant fire me for signing the hero QB to a long term deal can you? And even if you can? Its too late, youre screwed. Hahaha they kind half did that already hahaha

When i was younger, I used to imagine being Bears GM. When we all do our draft stuff, we all imagine being Bears GM. Of course the fantasy is to make the Bears into a dominant winner. Now, as I am older, and have seen enough players I liked fail in the NFL, and players I wasnt sure of thrive (as well as being right about players half the time, in other words, a coin flip) I realize that I would not be a good choice for GM of the Bears. Only a very select few people who are not already GMs would be good GMs. Hell, a lot of the people who ARE GMs now are terrible. maybe most. The point is it's VERY hard to be a good and successful GM in the NFL. That's why I have a new fantasy: I want to be the Packers GM. I realize I don't have the skills to build a winner in the NFL. But I'm pretty sure I could ruin a team...

you KNOW I want #2. and I dont ever want to feel that way again.
-
If this were possible it'd be an A+ home run! Imagine Anderson, Bresee and two firsts in 2024. That's GM of the year material!
-
I agree. I think with a different OL he is gonna be top 10 too.

I actually think Fields has done an excellent job of avoiding interceptions. the down side is his main criticism is that he holds the ball a little too long to be sure his WR is open, but he has not made a lot of foolish passes. I have seen balls tipped, receivers fall, or just stand there, but despite the numbers, I don't see Fields as having an interception issue at all. As for the sacks, you know that is on the OL, because we have the most escapable QB in the league. Give him a real OL, and WRs (that ones gonna be tough this offseason) and I think you see a dominant next generation QB in Fields.
