> Bears trade Seattle for picks 217 and 250 Nice. I guess that OT was falling, and we sure don't need him now.
-
I agree. I think they are covering permutations to coach them up and see what they can do. When someone can push Leno out, everyone moves up one slot
-
I dont think he is a LT, probably a G or a swing backup.
-
Hard to say, since we just took Borom, who is probably a guard or a swing backup. That says they arent loving their current depth. Or maybe just creating more competition at OL.
-
I agree, we are not that far away, and maybe the defense returns to form with Goldman back? There are a lot of reasons to be excited about this team, but I have learned from doing this too many times in May. I will wait to see it on the field!

So The Bears Finally Picked A Player That Has A Chip On His Shoulder
BearFan PHX replied to lemonej's topic in Bearstalk
Ah, found this from an article about Fields' press conference: (7) Fields agrees with what his college coach, Ohio State's Ryan Day, told the media Friday about how the quarterback "burns hot on the inside" but rarely shows that emotion. "Coach Day, he's one of the coaches that knows me best, so he's definitely right about that one," Fields said. "I think the even keeled-ness comes from just me being in so many experiences involving sports situations in my life. I've played up to four sports growing up. "So just failing at different sports, I've always tried to stay even-keeled, tried to keep my body language neutral. So I think that's just where that comes from. My dad has harped on it from when I was a little kid, just to make sure I have good body language. No matter how I'm feeling, just try not to let others see it." I hope we don't misunderstand him and think he is a "Cutler" because I think there is a lot going on in his head, and he chooses to remain super steady. Reminds me of Joe Montana that way. He didn't come across as sullen, but he was just super steady. I met him once, and I have to say that Montana was the most boring person I've ever met. So much so that i think it was a strength. The entire world could be in flames, with everything on the line, and he would just calmly say "OK, let's go save the word, ok? You go do this, I'll do this, and then we can go get a coke." LOL Fields' demeanor will be new, but i don't need my QB to tap dance or sell me insurance. Just win baby -

So The Bears Finally Picked A Player That Has A Chip On His Shoulder

I thought the same about Field's demeanor, until I started watching interviews with him after big wins. He was the same. I think he's just an intense guy, and we shouldn't read body language on draft day out of that context. That said, he might ALWAYS have a chip on his shoulder all the time. And that's even better than a blip of emotion on draft day! -
Ill definitely check that out, thanks for the tip.
-
dont forget we signed WR Marquis Goodwin. hes fast as hell.
-
Ill bet Foles is available too.
-
thanks for the clarification - I had thought we got back a 4th in this trade. Guess not. Still, we got two quality prospects, and maybe he will hit on a long shot from the 5th rounder etc.
-
hmmm, I guess Jenkins is a stud and worth it, but too bad we cant snag one more OT, WR or CB until the 4th round.
-
this is a great draft so far. does anyone know what we gave up in the trade?
-
LOL its a good draft no matter what else happens.

I was a little concerned (at first) about Fields' demeanor in the interviews. He seemed sullen, not smiling. I thought "damn maybe he isnt happy here" So I checked out other interviews with him, and found this one after winning the Sugar Bowl with a huge performance. He's the same. Serious, joyless. Kind of intense. If he was a game show host, I wouldn't love it. He might not be selling insurance anytime soon. But he is a tough guy, hard worker, and he seems very serious about everything. Constrast that with Mitch's goofiness, and I am not at all unhappy. I just think, as we watch him, it's good to have some context in which to evaluate his demeanor. Im not worried any more. We might have drafted a total killer here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIj7X1uCwg

yeah, it's neat when things work out that you can equalize some variables (Garoppolo in both cases), and lift the fog and see what someone really thinks. So interesting.
-
I totally agree. And it has to include an OT that can potentially play OLT, even if he plays ORT this year. Becasue at some point during the year, I think they will have to make the switch.

One thing we can say for sure, if Nagy cant make this work, it's no one's fault but his own. And if his system is a winner, but requires rare talent to run it, then here is a chance to make that case too. Nagy was part of the group that chose Mahomes. Maybe it really was all Trubisky. Nagy will have a chance to make that claim. But they will need help on the OL or it is all moot (see the aforementioned Mahomes in the SB without his regular OTs)
-
If Fields is a star, then the price we paid wasnt bad at all.
-
Nagy will love his feet too. Hes got to be thinking of how Trubisky used his feet early to win games the first year. But the big winner here is Montgomery, because Fields is accurate with the deep ball, and that and Fields' wheels will open running lanes and make the RPO work. Nagy has his Mahomes now, so there are no more excuses. Oh, and we need someone to protect this guy now. OL pls.
