News flash - everyone is human. If you keep cancelling everyone for being human, then we are ALL under fire. And that is what this is about. Creating the conditions to blackmail everyone. No one will feel comfortable to criticize anything that might happen when they know they have something in an email they shouldnt have said - and that's EVERYONE. It's disgusting, and much more offensive than any private comments he made. Intention is everything. Hateful people could say good morning in a way that sucks, and people who arent hateful should be able to speak freely without being cancelled. But everyone is scared. For now anyway.

I think Nagy was part of the playcalling today. At times it lacked rhythm. I think Nagy thinks being un predictable on offense is the way to call plays, but i dont agree. i think you want to be somewhat predictable, so that you can calls plays off of those expectations to set up play action, draws, screens etc. Defenses want to be unpredictable. Offenses should want to be effective, even when you know the run up the gut is coming, and tricky in calling plays off of that rhtyhm, but not simply unpredictable. We won, but it didnt look great.

perfect.

Looking at the tape from AZ link above (its the bottom one) we got a steal. He is fast as hell. Helps our return game, and makes Herbert a full time RB with monty out. You can probably run a few plays like you'll run with Cohen with him too.

and Nagy, having sent all four of his body guards out on errands, like fetching coffee or snacks, is left completely unprotected. It does no even occur to Nagy to move to the left or the right, and he gets it square in the nuts. "I have to find out the whys" he was later quoted as saying, albeit it several octaves up.

disagree, hes a great back who finishes his runs hard.
-
probably. maybe. but we have no evidence they arent caught up in it either. Of course I will be rooting for Lazor to succeed. But i wont be shocked if he doesn't.

I think Nagy might be on to something super creative with his combinations of 5 man routes. But it doesnt matter. It'd be like developing a whole bunch of genius picks and double moves that occur 40 yards downfield. Your QB just wont be on his feet when the time comes for the payoff. The fact is, this isn't a Madden video game. You gotta be able to muscle the ball on a run to get 4 yards instead of 3. That's football first, and this light weight has no conception of it. I think his time as an arena league QB hurt him. He just doesnt understand the line or the running game.

So, watching Nagy talk, and then Lazor today, here's what I'm hearing. I'm hearing a staff that thinks they are heroically taking the blame to shield their players, while they think that their scheme would have worked and players just didnt make plays. But guys, you only kept back 5 guys to protect on most passing plays, didn't roll Fields out, didn't run screens or draws or any of the other regular Xs and Os things that work against a pass rush that's coming too strong. If your point is that if you had a Pro Bowler at every spot who could handle anything one on one that then you could dictate all kinds of fancy problems for the defense, so you just run THAT game plan and then tell yourselves that your players failed, and congratulate yourself for being SO cool that you take the blame for it in press conferences, then you ARE the problem. This is not a video game. This is the NFL with real players. And the thing is, the BASIC football ideas I'm talking about, the ones that serve as rock against the scissors of a strong pass rush; screens, draws, traps, counters, options, bubble screens, rollouts, keeping extra guys in to protect etc etc are basic adjustments coaches make on the sidelines during the game at every level including pee wee football. You dont even need halftime for that. It's called game planning and play calling. You gonna tell me you didnt forsee that the Cleveland front might beat up your OL? Really? And when has Nagy ever been a great play caller? He didnt call plays in KC until the last year, and then was credited with being the reason they made an early playoff exit (same team went to the super bowl the next year) for - wait for it - failing to get the run game going or calling plays in rhythm. This guy is a JOKE. I was talking about firing him LAST year in mid season, saying you need to find out who your players are so you can be productive in the offseason. It's the same problems; play calling, no run game, bad protection, poor offense EVERY single year. It was Glennon's fault, no it was Trubisky's, I mean Nick Foles, wait no its Andy Dalton, no its Justin Fields. No. It is YOU Matt Nagy. Someone fire this clown or let the firings continue up the ladder all the way to Virginia until SOMEONE makes a freakin' change. meaning if Pace wont fire Nagy, then Get Ted to fire Pace and Nagy, and if he wont do it, then Virginia needs to fire him. THIS is pathetic. Fire Nagy now, put in Pettine as interim HC. Do it now Pace, or you should be gone too, and probably already are anyway. Seriously. Screens slow down pass rushes. Didnt you know that? wtf

Lions: "Oh God, we have no idea which Bears QB will start. Theyre all so different and talented, and they would be running the exact same plays. What do we do??" This was a joke last year. Now it's just putrid with rot.
-
Nagy was taking responsibility because he thinks everyone is going to blame Fields. But no, it's you Matt Nagy. You can put in Foles, and we will still see YOUR failure.
-
agree. agree we are all on the same page. Nagy has to stop calling plays at LEAST.

Nagy might have had some bad breaks, but there is more than enough data on him now to prove he is not a world beating offensive innovator. He might be decent, and got some bad breaks. So what? We are looking to to a risk on a guy hoping he becomes dominant. There are no sure thing coaches waiting to be hired. So you take a chance on a guy and hope he turns out to be a dominant winner. We know enough to know that isn't Nagy. We're not looking to hire guys that can promise us 9-8 or 10-7 and an early playoff loss. If that's what you draw, then you need to fold that hand and play another. Decent is not the goal. Nagy is not dominant. He argues that with a few different breaks he might be decent. So what? The best upside of Nagy isnt good enough. And we arent even seeing that. He is not the guy.

our talent at WR is actually pretty good. the problem is for each route, there are defenses that leave you wide open, and there are defenses that have you covered tight. Our play calling and game planning is getting beaten badly, that's why no one is open. We are the worst team ever at playing rock, paper, scissors. The good news is that this job should look very attractive to coaches and even GMs next year. Very unlike the year we had to go with John Fox for example. We have a pretty good roster and depth, a young dynamic QB, a huge media market. Nagy has had any number of QBs now to try to make his offense work. He has failed. He needs to be fired. Maybe go with Lazor or DeFillippo and just SEE if they MIGHT be good. Call it a free trial before next year. Not that i think either of them is the man, but to get a really good head coach you need to find one that isnt one already. They wouldnt be my first choices, but I think you kick the tires on them because you might as well. But at the very least, I think you tell Nagy he has to give one of those guys the playcalling abilities. This is getting beyond stupid now. If people wont change, fire someone. If someone wont make them change or fire them, then fire that guy too.

Adams was a late cut, he may replace someone on the practice squad.

This sounds right

He may yet come back to the practice squad.
