Ill definitely check that out, thanks for the tip.
-
dont forget we signed WR Marquis Goodwin. hes fast as hell.
-
Ill bet Foles is available too.
-
thanks for the clarification - I had thought we got back a 4th in this trade. Guess not. Still, we got two quality prospects, and maybe he will hit on a long shot from the 5th rounder etc.
-
hmmm, I guess Jenkins is a stud and worth it, but too bad we cant snag one more OT, WR or CB until the 4th round.
-
this is a great draft so far. does anyone know what we gave up in the trade?
-
LOL its a good draft no matter what else happens.

I was a little concerned (at first) about Fields' demeanor in the interviews. He seemed sullen, not smiling. I thought "damn maybe he isnt happy here" So I checked out other interviews with him, and found this one after winning the Sugar Bowl with a huge performance. He's the same. Serious, joyless. Kind of intense. If he was a game show host, I wouldn't love it. He might not be selling insurance anytime soon. But he is a tough guy, hard worker, and he seems very serious about everything. Constrast that with Mitch's goofiness, and I am not at all unhappy. I just think, as we watch him, it's good to have some context in which to evaluate his demeanor. Im not worried any more. We might have drafted a total killer here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIj7X1uCwg

yeah, it's neat when things work out that you can equalize some variables (Garoppolo in both cases), and lift the fog and see what someone really thinks. So interesting.

I totally agree. And it has to include an OT that can potentially play OLT, even if he plays ORT this year. Becasue at some point during the year, I think they will have to make the switch.

One thing we can say for sure, if Nagy cant make this work, it's no one's fault but his own. And if his system is a winner, but requires rare talent to run it, then here is a chance to make that case too. Nagy was part of the group that chose Mahomes. Maybe it really was all Trubisky. Nagy will have a chance to make that claim. But they will need help on the OL or it is all moot (see the aforementioned Mahomes in the SB without his regular OTs)
-
If Fields is a star, then the price we paid wasnt bad at all.
-
Nagy will love his feet too. Hes got to be thinking of how Trubisky used his feet early to win games the first year. But the big winner here is Montgomery, because Fields is accurate with the deep ball, and that and Fields' wheels will open running lanes and make the RPO work. Nagy has his Mahomes now, so there are no more excuses. Oh, and we need someone to protect this guy now. OL pls.

Draft’mas Eve - will GM Pace finally deliver a QB?
BearFan PHX replied to ParkerBear7's topic in Bearstalk
yes. although if you stagger them you can develop them more I think. But basically i was saying its not SO crazy and that with a year's offset it's basically what some teams routinely do. I want Mond -
I like Mond, and I like trading down to get him later in the first rather than trading up to get him. I like that the OT he took is a LT, even if he is slotted to play RT this year. I also notice that he took 2 QBs and 2 WRs, something else I see us discussing. This mock has a lot of the elements we've been discussing on this board. Pretty cool.

LOL that is perfect.

I think that if we admit that there is a lot of fog around which players will pan out int he NFL, then the shotgun approach at a position makes a lot of sense. Of course it costs two picks instead of one, but so does trading up for a more sure single bet. It's kind of like the math between kicking an extra point or going for 2. If you convert 95% of your kicks, and only 60% of your two point tries, then you should go for two every time. Sure it takes you more tries on average to convert, but the payoff over time is bigger when you do. Similarly, you can package multiple picks to move up, or you can spend those multiple picks multiple players at the same position to improve your chances. Would you rather have Trey Lance, or Kellen Mond and Davis Mills? What if the price was the same? Not to mention that if both play well, you can trade one later for more than you spent to get him. I suppose the modified version of this is to draft QBs in years you don't need one. You shouldn't need 2 in the same year, but look at what the Packers and New England have done, they took QBs when they didn't need them, and then traded them for future picks, while assuring that their QB position would be strong. Pace told us he would draft a QB "every year" and he surely hasn't done anything like that. If QB is important enough to trade up for, then it is important enough to use a 3rd or 4th round pick on every other year or so. Jason's double QB draft was shocking and eye opening, but if you spread it over two years it's absolutely something good teams do all the time. And in the position we are in now, it'd be novel, but I wouldn't hate it. -
I like Mond a lot too. Take an OT first, then trade up into the bottom of the first for Mond - good plan.

Looking at a bunch of mock drafts, it looks like #8 would be for Trey Lance. Trey Lance who has measurables, but only played 18 games for a school that isnt traditionally a football powerhouse. Pace cant be that dumb can he? It fits the pattern so closely. Then again, whoever wrote the article is probably just projecting from the existing pattern, so it's circular logic.
-
when I was looking at this thread, I started wondering what else besides a QB could be found at #8, and Slater is one of the strong possibilities. Now you all know I want an OLT really bad, but I don't know if I would pay 2 firsts and a 3rd for one...
