  1. I feel like not being tough goes along with not running the ball.
  2. This is the flip side of club dub too. If you want your players to like you too much, youve lost some power.
  3. interesting. in the article Nagy says: "“That can be in a meeting, if we say guys can’t have phones in a meeting, it means they don’t have phones in a meeting,” Nagy said. “It doesn’t mean in Week 8 they start bringing them in. It means they never have them in the meeting. If they show up 9:00 or 9:01, they’re walking in as I’m walking in—no, get there early. It’s just a lot of different things." So I think I, and many others, were right that Nagy was way too permissive last year, and maybe now with his back against the wall, he will build a tougher team. I would like nothing more than to be discussing how Nagy learned and became and amazing coach for us, this time next year.
  4. that could well be true. Nagy gets next year to prove us wrong, or grow and prove us wrong, and I sure hope he does, but I think theres a good chance you are right.
  5. I was never a fan of this guy, and what he did to the Bears, but of course I am not happy that he died. RIP M McC. https://chicago.suntimes.com/bears/2020/5/16/21261255/bears-michael-mccaskey-die-age-76-cancer-chairman-george-s-halas-ceo-president-george-virginia-ed
  6. he's been a consistent Pro Bowler - they just couldnt afford him, and took a rookie to replace him. If we can swing it, he should be a major addition to our running game.
  7. oh no doubt. Just because I have deep psychological issues about Leno doesnt mean that I think the rest of the line is good! lol We need to be able to move people in the running game. And we need to call running plays. Ifedi will already be an upgrade, and if we can land Warford, that would help a lot too. Leno's problems dont make those positions any better last year for sure. They need help in their own right. ANd Im glad Pace is making those moves. But I really dont see how any of it matters if Leno plays like he did last year. I am still in disbelief that it hasnt been addressed in a strong way (unless they have more faith in Spriggs than I do). I do apologize for being a broken record about it, but sheesh.
  8. nah. I need someone who can actually replace him and be an upgrade. If Spriggs or Bars is that guy, then I dont need Leno to get hurt, I just need the coaches to see it. On a team with a pretty deep roster, this is a bad achilles heel to have.
  9. I like what it does for the run game. I still wish we had more than Spriggs to challenge at left tackle, but Warford could help a lot at guard and in the running game especially.

Oh I definitely agree that Nagy was a huge part of the problem last year. And of course Leno.

it begs the question of whether having the training wheels in the first place even helped. The dance parties etc - these are pro athletes, they are hyper competitive. Push their buttons and get the most out of them, and stop trying to make it easy for them. Bill Parcells knew how to get the most from his players, and it wasnt a dance party. You're right. This could be exactly what Trubisky needs. And he either does, or does not. There is no try.
  12. I was calling for Nagy's head at the end of last year with this exact same logic. Nagy WILL get this season (or at least the first half of it) to prove me wrong. It is possible that his offense is the way of the future and will be incredible with the right QB. But not calling run plays is a problem no matter what offense you employ. And that's not all on Leno or Trubisky. So Nagy will get his chance, and no one will be happier than me to see him succeed. But Im not gonna predict it. I need to see it. This defense will be nasty, and you're right, and average offense should get us to the playoffs. And if Nagy cant field an average offense, and wont let go of the OC position, then he can go try somewhere else. One wonders if that is what happens whether Pace makes it to next year. Personally, I like Pace more than I dislike him, but he and Nagy are both probably on the hot seat.
  13. I agree with all of that. What if the winning record is all defense though?
  14. Good question. I would have considered this heresy 10 years ago, but Im a 3-4 convert now.
  15. Yeah the defense is looking VERY good on paper. ANd considering the core was already working, it is an easy prediction that they will be really good this year. Top 3 or better even. There is a lot of reason for optimism on the offensive side of the ball too, but until one of the QBs takes the reigns and establishes some rhythm and expectations, it's just a bunch of names. Unlike the defense there is no core to build on, so predictions are tougher to make. Imagine that the defense plays lights out, but Nagy's offense never quite finds a rhythm. Imagine that we go 9-7 or 10-6, and then make an early exit in the playoffs, maybe winning one playoff game first. Imagine that all season and in the playoffs the defense kills it but the offense sputters. Do you fire Nagy but keep Pace? Maybe promote Pagano? Now imagine that the offense finds some rhythm with Graham and Ginn contributing heavily. There's no future there anyway given their ages. It's going to be a really interesting season. If all the cards fall right, it might even buy a us super bowl, but then a lot of our players would be free agents again anyway in 2021. Is this what it's like to be a Yankees fan?
  16. I like Patterson a LOT. I do hope we keep him. I would like to see him used more in the offense. If they can get value in the field from him, great. BUt they have to work him in and call his number. I was just saying that with Ginn on the team, Patterson's returner role overlaps. And that he is a place to find $5 Million in cap room *IF* you need it for something you think would be more helpful. I don't know if I can go so far, as much as I hate Leno, to say that I WOULD cut or trade Patterson and get Peters. But I'd have to think about it at least, and signing Ginn just changed that calculation, even if only a little.
  17. They may have signed Ginn as a kick returner too. If we cut Patterson, we open up $5 Million on the cap for Jason Peters or a Safety...
  18. Jason Peters got 6 Million last year. Say it with me LOL
  19. this years loss of 1st rounder was offset by gaining a 2nd rounder back this year, and we gave this year's 3rd too. So maybe it's cleaner to consider that we drafted Mack with last year's #1, and Johnson with this year's. RD 1: Jaylon Johnson CB (and 1/4 of Khalil Mack EDGE) RD 2: Cole Kmet RD 3: 1/10-ish of Khalil Mack EDGE RD 4: Nick Foles QB RD5 Trevis Gibson OLB RD5 Kindle Vinder CB RD5 Darnell Mooney WR RD7 Arlingtin Hambright OT/OG RD7 Lachavious Simmons OT/OG
