Bingo. Someone understands the idea of sunk costs. There should be ZERO chance that Leno plays another snap for us period. Any coach that thinks he needs another chance should be fired immediately. Hopefully there are no coaches on the Bears that think that. Leno is bad at football.

they only reason they arent being fired right now is the money remaining on their contracts. next year they are clearly on the hot seat if they dont prove something on the field.

If this turns out to be true of our roster - how likely do you think Nagy is to abandon the RPO? I think the odds he can meaningfully change are very low.

Great article, but I think that if you assume that both current OTs will be starting again next year, youre making a mistake. I know that's how the cap looks now, but I think we will see a lot more new blood on the OL than common wisdom projects. I had the same discussion here two years ago about the wide receiver squad. I think they cut Leno. I really do.

cool. I dont really know any of these players. I dont watch a lot of college ball. I read a couple paragraphs on a bunch of players, and then did this. So if you have specific negatives on them, Im all ears. All I can tell you is that Fuller comes from an incredible family that achieves with the strongest character of any people Ive ever met. Im pretty good friends with his mom, Ive worked with her over a hundred times, and the goodness just oozes out of her - one of the special people that the light just shines from. Shes an amazing singer too, shes with Springsteen now, but she was with the Stones for many many years. Im not a religious person, but she is the kind of true christian that walks the walk in the most beautiful way. In world full of hypocrites, she and her family are the real deal. So all things being equal, if you can get him at whatever slot a fair price is, hes going to grow more than most. But if hes a free safety, and we need a SS, then so bet it. Someone is gonna get a really quality person tho. I am least sure of my QB pick. I wanted a developmental project, but I have no reason to believe anyone who is projected to be a thrid day pick will be a great QB! They all have issues. And youre right, the first 5 are strong, the rest are a game. But then again the three trades are a game too LOL

so maybe they cut him, and spent the cap benefit on (some of) Jacksons guaranteed money so it doesnt count against the future. I know that Trubisky hasnt worked out great, but overall I have liked Pace. Signing the two OTs notwithstanding.

I was just talking about everyone who would save large chunks of cap room if you cut them. I agree that Robinson should be resigned if at all possible. As for Patterson, he is a good player and a great chess piece, but if it comes down to keeping him and Leno at RT, or cutting both and bringing in a decent FA at OT, I'd have to choose that option. Not becasue Patterson isnt good, because I agree he is, but *IF* there are only so many dollars to go around, it might have to happen. I hope we can keep Patterson and revamp the OL.

Here's how I did it. I think overall this would be a fantastic draft. I know Mond is scored as a C-, but I wanted to bring in a developmental project at QB, and none of the guys in the second round onward were exciting enough to take over the players I got until the 5th round. He has all the tools and needs to develop - 5th round seems right to me. Also, they have OT Becton rated lower than I do. Other draft sites give him higher grades. Id take him over Leno in a heartbeat. Also another note - I know SS Jordan Fuller's mother very well. Their entire family is extremely rare and impressive. On character alone Id take this kid. Overall I created competition for every spot on the OL, added a legit TE, and added two key pieces to the secondary, beef on the DL and even a developmental QB. I'd be very happy with this draft. If someone has a different QB in mind in the 5th round, Id be open to hearing it. But at that point they are all lacking something and Mond seems like he has the most upside of the players available there.

according to the calculator at over the cap, If we cut: Floyd (save $13.2 Million) Leno (save $2.9 Million) Long (save ($8.1 Million) Gabriel (save $4.5 Million) Then we would have $40.6 Million to spend on the cap. Cutting Robinson would save another $13 Million and Cutting Amukamara would save another $8 Million Cutting Patterson would save another $5.3 Million I like Robinson a lot, but we could probably do better than Amukamara for $8 Million. Trevathan, HaHa and KPL are free agents we have some choices to make and some money to spend. We can get a shiny new Offensive Line.

We need an agile LT to protect the QB and a road grading Right Tackle to run behind. Here we are in 2020, with Nagy and Trestman's offenses in our rear view mirror, any second Jetson's cars and sex robots are gonna be normal, and all I want is a 1990s Dallas style offense.

OK, I did some digging, and here's the deal: https://overthecap.com/player/charles-leno-jr/3185/ Leno's cap number goes from $3.3 Million this past year to -- GULP -- $10,300,000 for 2020. If we cut him we are on the hook for $7.4 Million - a savings of almost $3 Million dollars. Further if we designate him a post June 1st cut, then he would count $2.3 million against this years cap, and $5.1 Million against the 2021 cap. Since Pace is fighting for his life, he might want to do that, and clear up $5 Million in cap room for Leno's replacement in Free Agency. If one assumes that the odds of Trubisky earning a top franchise QB salary in 2021 are low, then we can afford to push the $5.1 Million to 2021. At that point Trubisky will either have signed an extension that isn't a top 5 QB in the league number, or we will be paying a rookie QB. Either way we will have room for that cap hit. GOOD BYE LENO.

I agree that Floyd is worth keeping if his cap number is more friendly. We may not be able to cut Leno. The cap hit might be too much. So you just let him sit on the bench, because there is NO reason to put that guy on the field for us ever again. Unfortunately, if a player quits the NFL, or is killed by a crazed fan (lol), the team is still on the hook for the cap hit. The only way around it is a trade. And wed have to give up a lot to move Leno. It'd be Leno plus draft picks for a lower pick, just to get him off of our cap. Its not gonna happen. But if we have to pay it either way, then at least we dont need to put him on the field.

it's possible that they have someone they want, but if they cant get him, at least theyve got Castillo to provide the role if not the title. And there is probably some possibility he becomes OC if they cant get whoever theyre thinking about. its a good early hire to shore up the run game and provide insurance so they can wait into the playoffs to find their guy at OC if they want to without too much risk if they dont land him.

I like it. He has been OL and run coordinator successfully before. Now the question is whether Nagy will listen when it's 2nd and 8, down 6, early in the 4th quarter. He's going to want to pass, but can he stay with the run? History says no, but he will apparently get one more chance to prove he can change. This will be the most likely scenario for him to be able to do it, but will he? I have my doubts. I hope Im wrong.

I think that if they were: 1) planning on sticking with Trubisky, 2) bringing in competition while giving Trubisky a decent shot at being the starter 3) overhauling the QB position entirely and getting rid of Trubisky that they would have said exactly the same thing, so I dont know if we can really say what the plan is at this point from what we know. let's hope it's at least #2...

no doubt. I think there is criticism to be had on both sides of that, I truly think Nagy underused Patterson, but yes, every offense looks terrible with Leno at LT.

If Nagy can allow himself to be open, then sure. But even if he is listening and all dialed in on Tuesday morning, is he able to feel that way in the early part of the 4th quarter, 2nd and 8, down 6 on the road? Will he really call straight power blocking off-tackle right with no one pulling? I truly and deeply have my doubts. He has never shown the ability to foster a running game, here or in KC. Over and over it's the same thing. Let's release him and he can finally be free to fulfill his dream and be the world's top Madden player.

I dont think Nagy has shown enough that you keep him, but bring in someone to reign him in. If he needs so much supervision (he DOES) then why not let the next OC call plays? Or better yet, what are you keeping about him? Club Dub? Bad 4th down decisions? Im telling you next year is a wasted year because no one has the guts or institutional power to fire him. It should be Pace to do it. But he has decided to double down and finish tying his future to the rest. Only Virginia now can save us. Otherwise, we will be rebuilding again in 2021, and if that's Ok, why not start NOW.

Trubisky is an issue, but he isn't even the top two problems. Nagy and the OL have been insurmountable. Sure Mitch can grow, but the OL has been atrocious. Just awful. Leno is a disgrace, and made it impossible for Trubisky to even operate the offense at whatever level he is at. Nagy refused to change his play calls. He lost a playoff game for the Chiefs because he got away from the run. Last year he assured us that he'd get Jordan Howard going, but never did. This year he gave up on the run too, and refused to do any straight power blocking at ALL. Then one week, he spoke about I formation, and decided to show us idiot fans that it wouldnt work. Except it did. Well. So we promptly abandoned it and went back to the pulling and trapping game his OL was completely unable to execute. Im telling you now. Next year is already a wash, and Nagy will get fired after. And THEN we will have to start again. Wish we could fire him now, because all youre gonna do is spend another yeat to discover that Nagy is not the guy. And why fire the OC? Nagy is the offensive genius, and play caller, and he admits he leaves the defense alone. So what did Helfrich do that it was HIS fault and not Nagy's? This is total garbage. Come on Virginia. Pull the plug on this crap.

So true. Pace had a chance here to do something bold. Admittedly, it would be risky. But he could have saved himself by firing Nagy and bringing in someone else. Even keeping Trubisky, and bringing in competition of course. But instead they went with the "we still believe in each other" route. And while it seems really moral on the surface, what it means is "we are still staying on course, so we believe that what we did was RIGHT and the cards just havent come up right for us yet" AND THAT is BULLSHIT. I dont care if they lie to me in the press conference. It'd almost be malpractice if they didnt. But doubling down on this Nagy stuff is a really bad bet. And now Pace truly is hitched to Nagy. When they both get fired after next year we can begin a 3 year building program. And based on that, I want their heads NOW. Do it Virginia, youre the only one that can.
