New Strength and Conditioning Coach Promotion
ASHKUM BEAR replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
I will add to this, Flus wanted his line lighter. From experience, it means lighter weights and more repetitions and changing body composition quickly takes it toll. Johnson I believe wants more beef and strength. His preference is to attack the defense and run the ball with no hesitation into a gap. This gives the d-line little time to control multiple gaps and give the d-backs time to play the run. What Johnson does here with Roshar is unknown. The outside zone scheme has been somewhat decoded by Vic Fangio. I assume it will be a variation of his and Roshars. -
It was only about them being ranked around top 10 and the arm length. Big difference is Campbell uses his hands so we'll and is very vocal. He would be a great addition to lead the line imo.
-
I'm good with Simmons of he tests healthy. Campbell to me is very similiar to Peter Skoronsky a few years ago. Stud LT in college, but now playing guard. Campbell is a leader and will command the room, smart enough to call the line protections, has great punch, foot movement and core strength to play LT in NFL. His only fault is his arms will be under 34". He can overcome that with his foot and hand speed. If he fails, the Bears still have a leader and stud G. I'm not a fan of spending a top 10 on a G though.
-
If Will Campbell falls to 10, he isn't a 34th ranked player. He might have limitations at LT, but he is so technically sound his limitations are not easily exposed. He needs to become a better run blocker is his biggest knock. He also faced SEC competition weekly, so he has faced as close to NFL as you can get. He would be a guy who can also play pretty much all the positions across the line, so if he ends up not excelling at LT he can move to G. If he is not there or he is not a Poles guy with having shorter arms, then Graham DT or Nolan DT are the only worth guys in that #10 range.

Kiran sure didn't look the part. I wouldn't pass on a LT with Braxton Jones down to one year and Kiran a work in progress. The interior will be fixed with a 2nd round prospect and FAs.
-
The NFL announced the salary cap will be increasing from 255 million to 277-281 million for next season. This will give the cheifs 20-25 million to re-sign Trey Smith.
-
If you can draft a stud LT, you cannot pass that up regardless if you have above average Braxton going into a contract year. I appreciate what he's brought as a 5th round pick, but he has a known weakness that gets exploited every week. Can johnson and roshar help him, I believe so. They both use the run game, which Jones does well to set up the pass. But then you have to decide to resign Jones after the year. I will beat the LT drum every year until we draft on great one again.

The Bears only returning starters are OTs Wright and Jones and it can be argued that Jones could be replaced. What can Armagadje bring? Yep, a question. Maybe he can transition to LG while Braxton starts or moves to swing OT. As for Center, the Bears do have Ricky Stromberg and Bates under contract but I am curious as who coach Dan Roushar would target if Poles spends cap for Center. Bates could end up a IR settlement casualty before the season starts too, so this position needs some deep diving. Roushar is known for developing lineman. His Saints acquired and C Max Unger in the Jimmy Graham trade and Unger became a probowler and the center piece for the Saints line. Unger was already developed, so I can see the Bears going this route. Drew Dalhman is a developed outside zone player, but would he fit Ben Johnsons attacking gap scheme or does Ben change to outside zone like the Bears and Roshar are already used to. Coleman Shelton is outside zone and is already comfortable with Caleb, so he could be the guy too. To me, this a plan A and B at Center Now for the rest. The Bears should have choice 1 or 2 for an olineman in the draft. LT- Will Campbell should be a no brainer and I'd leave him at LT. Every report I have read or heard says this guy is a footballer and polished. I hope to find time to review thrse top OT and DT options and see myself. Round 2A, get a Guard Milum or D Jackson, 2B take a DT like D Walker or Alfred Collins DT Texas to rotate with Billings while Dexter/Pickens man the other spot. Round 3, is there a DE worthy like Ivey or Gilliloutte? Or do they take a RB like Kaleb Johnson Iowa who is power and agility at 6' 225 and gives the Bears a one two punch. Sign another FA Guard like Zieter to challenge a starting spot and the line is in good shape. Round 5, take a developmental C, seen a handful of names. The last major piece is if there is a way to get a stud DE through trade or fa to pair with Sweat. If that happens, the Bears on paper are favorites again lol.

Id like to see how the new DB coach, Al Harris, works with him. He asked Tyrique to go to a special camp this off season to work with a trainer that helped elevate the Cowboys backfield.
-
He had to block more to keep his QB alive, so unless the oline improves he's useless here. He goes to KC, he's a 10M man. Poles needs to realize how building a team works and get the damn line fixed or Caleb isn't worth anything either.

Ian signed an extension back in April. We won't know his destination until after the interviews.
-
I'd be good trading our 1st for a DE... Parsons or Garrett, or Hendrickson. The oline talent isn't the best at pick 10. I'd like G Booker but if they move down 5 or more slots.
-
He is supposedly the guy they want, so if Ian wants the job he will most likely be gone by the weekend.

It was a trade down mock to feel it out. I don't know much about TE Fannin other than seeing him at the top of the 2nd round and his enticing write-up. Princely's draft profile says he has great burst, but needs strength, so who knows. Zabel is a name from the senior bowl. Seems like a project to make him a center, so i can agree about passing.
-
He's been climbing the boards. He looks like a prospect with potential, I'd be good with it.

Bears trade pick 10 to KC for 32, 64, 66, and 96. I didn't look up the trade chart values. My picks are also way out there. A monster S at rd 1-32, he has speed, strength and high IQ to lead the backfield for 8-10 yrs. Next is a move TE that is a Deebo Samuel clone and a piece Johnson can use his creativity to exploit defenses. For Oline-Zabel who they can develop at C, Jack Nelson a Wisconsin LT who can play anywhere across the line and a Georgia RG with plus size. Dline- Dexter's best man, the Prince at DE and big man Walker at NT. Skateboo as our poor man RB -McCaffery. Last a QB that can be a Taysom Hill threat and develop as a quality backup. In FA, just get Trey Smith LG and I think we made the transition to be scary good.

Spending a top 10 pick on a center is not smart football. QB, LT, DE, CB, WR, and DT are prime positions and that is where you use high picks. If Campbell is drafted for LT, it is a great move. At center, not so much regardless of our need. The NFC North will not be the same, except for maybe GB and we possibly beat them twice with just coaching. Detroit lost 7 coaches, Minny will most likely lose their QB. The Bears could be there to take the division and having Garrett at DE compared to a rookie like Pierce could make it 1 player away. The offseason doesn't mean they ignore the oline. They will spend cap and draft there too. Just because he is an option, doesn't mean it will happen. It only means you call the Browns and see what the cost is and for the right price you buy.

I wonder how much Nate Davis affected this. The guy was a cancer and held the team hostage and the team noticed. I heard Jaylen Johnson mention how disappointed he was in the work of some teammates. They would praise him and ask what he does to play so well and he told them it takes the hard-core work ethic everyday making sure your body is at its best, yet he sees them leaving the gym and not getting that extra work in. I didn't think he was speaking of the oline, but more so in Tyrique, but that my my interpretation of it. If the players do not have to do the extra work, does it fall on the GM, the coaches, or the players? By rule, the coaches only gets so much time with the team. You can encourage and provide top of the line facilities to train, but you cannot make the player stay longer. I imagine a having a new HC and system, the players will be rejuvenated to do extra. If they win and have success, it is easier to continue with the program. Start losing and that extra effort starts to diminish and they are back to square one.

Exactly, we wasted more 2nds on worse things and who would you rather have in the first this year.. Garrett or Carter? A defense front 4 with Garrett/Sweat and Dexter/Billings would be tough to block. I'd be willing to do 1st and 2nd this year (so we have our 2nd next year) if the Bears add FA Trey Smith to the oline. We can still draft a DT and IOL with our 2nd and 3rd and pray Braxton Jones/Kiran Amagejae can hold down the LT. I believe coaching will improve our protection and help Caleb make quicker throws.

RIP! Virginia watched her father's dream grow to the mogul it is for over a century. She might have had reservations on how she wanted the family business ran, but she held her ground to keep it first class on those beliefs. That may have meant sacrificing the ability to compete with the best, but the Bears have stuck to this especially the later years. As fans, we may not have liked it. Of course, we just want to win and the Jim McMahons on the team brought some malicious joy. I am seeing "now they can sell the team" on social media, but a part of me wants to see the Halas blood remain at least in some form, prefer a minor share. This is the original founding team with deep history and I would still like to see part of that remain. What other owner like George parks on the Waldron deck by himself on game day and walks in the same way as the fans do.

He reminds me of that LT from Northwestern that the Chargers drafted, only because of his arm length. They say do t be shocked if his combine results are not exciting, but watch his tape bc the guy is a great player.
-
Here is the thing to consider. The Vikings losing Darnold, Lions losing both coordinators, and Packers who should have lost twice to us. While the Bears add great coaching, have 65 mil in cap, and decent draft capital. If Garrett can catapult the D to top 3 and only costs us a 1st this year, that could go to an unproven DE anyways, why not. The Bears window could be next year or the following with Garrett. The oline might be fixed with coaching and fewer pieces than we see. Poles has to call and see what the price is. If it is doable and not outrageous, do it.
-
No 4th this year, but worth a call to see. They need a slot WR to replace Allen.
-
Small chance the Bears do, but call and see what the cost is. We might have to face him twice a year if Detroit wants him. He most likely goes to the Commanders.
-
Word is the Bears are digging deep on Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson. New OC Doyle also has having coached there. He is a bigger back who can be a workhorse. I hate drafting RBs early, but they are in need of a playmaker to pair with Swift and a good run game (line included) can make the QB.
