If you watch the break ARob gets on his DB he's got really good separation there and that's exactly where Trubisky was going with the ball. Could have been a nice gain right there.

It doesn't matter if it's Trubisky or Foles at QB, these type of mistakes by the WRs have to be eliminated. https://twitter.com/BearWeatherFans/status/1261422572094119936
  3. As someone said Mitch is built to run a different offense.
  4. i understand and agree this is likely his last shot at being a starter. I just think he is what he is at this point which is backup/bridge QB.
  5. We sit just under $10mil in cap space right now. I think Pace wants to wait on the Robinson deal in order to have an idea how he wants to fit in any of these late contracts. If something works we can structure Robinson's deal to reduce cap hit. OTOH if we don't sign anyone else we could pull in as much of the hit this year to make future years better. This may have been his M.O. all along and why we see the new contracts just before the season starts.
  6. As prices come down other factors weigh more heavily into the equation. Things such as organization, locker room (do you want to be around guys like Fournette who pout on the bench or with the team that dances after a victory?), location (family reasons or entertainment), chance to win a ring, etc. Many of those things are in our favor so it's possible the flame reignites.
  7. I read this yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out who is overrating Leno. Or is it as simple as saying he'll make the 53 is overrating him?
  8. Why? Seeing something in the rumor mill?
  9. I agree....get a veteran play caller to run his offense and his game plan and then step back. But there is the EGO problem.
  10. If they sell tickets, and unless they arrest me there will be at least one fan there. Although definitely will not be attending any baseball games but that's even in the best of times.
  11. I agree with the shortened offseason we can't afford to take a risk he'll fail again. It is much better to go into the offseason worried about just RG on the interior.
  12. Seems like that is true. I wonder how he would have fit in with our zone scheme since he's said to be a better fit for a power blocking scheme. I understand the nuances between the two scheme but don't know the details of his skills, nor do I know what blocking scheme we're going to use this season. I assume it will stay the same.
  13. I don't see anything talking about poor play... just cut him because he's being paid too much money. https://whodatdish.com/2020/05/08/saints-2-reasons-cut-larry-warford-season/
  14. Bit of an oxymoron there. I like and support Nagy but he did not demonstrate much that was good or smart last year in his play calling. I feel he is at the same place as Mitch relatively speaking. Both have demonstrated success in spots and the ability to be good. Both have demonstrated they were lost at times as well. Both need to improve or they will be gone.
  15. This is the same franchise that has fielded historically great offense paired with historically bad defenses. They are in the last year of a Superbowl window with a Hall of Fame QB. It's the same franchise that let Mark Ingram leave breaking up a very good running game, yet are paying Jared Cook $9mil this year. Now they are letting go of a key interior piece to rely on a rookie to protect their QB. I really don't know why Warford's play has fallen off, or if it has, but if they are simply doing this (start rookie cut Pro Bowl OG) because of cap issues I don't see how that is great planning or management. It really seems like they backed themselves into a corner with their cap management. Plus they are spending $8.5mil on their two kickers. FG is one thing but a punter for $4mil versus making sure Brees is protected?

    Jaylon Johnson

Stealing someone's post from Reddit...since some have kids who read I *** a couple words. Definitely feels like someone who had a couple beers before writing it. r/CHIBears •Posted by u/rbmw263 22 hours ago Jaylon Johnson is a rare breed Ive watched every single snap of Utah football for a long time now. Im going to do my best to relate to you now that Jaylon Johnson was special long before he ever got here, while he was here, and will be going forward Jaylon was a highly recruited kid. Not the highest of highs. Far from a 5star lock type, but he could have pretty much gone anywhere. Obviously thats a unique get for a school like Utah. But beyond the athletic accolades he came with, what immediately popped out was the head on this kids shoulders. The amount of clarity vision and drive he had was almost unbelievable for a teenage kid. He obviously aimed for his best possible version of himself on the field, but he was no bullshit on his academic prowess either. No "I want to get an education" lip service. He really focused on that and knocked out one of his major goals coming into college. Graduate in under 3 years. Star level kid. Biggest recruit in school history. Every reason to live that college party life. But by all accounts....Jaylon spent most of his time by himself. In his room or at the facility. Studying or watching film. Working out. That didnt develop as he got closer to his senior year. He had that from day f****** one. Its rare man. His rarity doesnt stop there. Like I said, this kid was the biggest recruit in Utah history. The hype on him coming in was sky level from the day he signed. And he followed it up. Every bit of it. He was a day 1 standout. And then he just kept getting better. Despite multiple offseasons totally lost to shoulder surgery. He grew because of his intellect, his overall drive, and obviously his god given talent and athleticism This kid came in talking all of the talk, with all of the hype. Im going to do this this this and this. and backed up every ounce of it. He had these goals written down his freshman year. Best in the country level stuff. He nailed every one of them, except for the one "be a 1st round draft pick". That bothers the absolute s*** out of me. I know the same goes for him. That fire will ultimately help him. Because he deserved it and he f****** knows it. I understand why the surgeries caused him to fall to the 50th pick. But he was absolutely special in college despite his shoulders failing him 2 of his 3 seasons. Playing the majority of both with injuries that required offseason surgery. Im hoping that having those health complications early while his body is young and can still grow/develop/heal will lead to a better long term prognosis. But I do know that regardless of all of that this kid will not let his shoulder cause him to fail. He has and will play through a great deal of pain at a very high level. The stats he put up playing man/press on WR1 with a torn labrum are f******* nuts man. Even as a freshman adjusting to the speed of the game and the quality of his opponents with all the expectations and lights on him. His shoulder was torn up and he produced an all american season. Thats a level of competitor everyone says they are, but really...few are There arent many more things im sure about than Jaylon Johnson is a rare breed, and you guys are going to love him

He reminds me a little bit of Fuller. He's more quick than fast and he's studious so his strength is understanding his opponents and what they like to do. Both need help over the top but we have that now in duplicate with Gipson and Jackson. As you say with our pass rush and coverage help from ILBs he should be in the ideal spot where his smarts and quickness can help him make plays.

Jared Goff got $110mil in 4 years by listening to his coach's reads pre-snap. On the RAms run to the Superbowl that was widely hailed as the new way to do business. Get yourself a decent college QB and just tell him what to do pre-snap... just like they got in college. Nagy comes in doing some of the same college stuff RPOs with an athletic QB and whatnot and it's hailed as the next wave of offensive genius. After all KC under Andy Reid was doing that and they almost got Alex Smith a league MVP award. Two injured years later and we have a QB who is scared to run. What examples do you have of him being coddled? Personally I think Nagy completely threw him under the bus last season so did Dave Rogaine. There were a multitude of issues on offense last year and for the first part of the season Nagy let the failures all fall on Mitch's shoulders. It wasn't until mid-season or later when the media finally started talking about the poor Oline play and the poor play calling. Or calling into question some of the route running by Anthony Miller. That may have been part of the plan...the tough love approach and see how he responds but it's a far cry from being coddled.
  19. I agree something happened to make Trubisky literally go backwards in his confidence and execution.
  20. Seems to me the play calling needs to be a whole lot better than it was last year. For a head coach, who by bringing in competition for last year's starting QB has confirmed what we all knew about Trubisky, to have known he had QB issues yet continued to call 80% pass plays is a serious problem. Do that again and it won't matter if we have Foles or Trubisky behind center. I've been watching Foles since his days at Univ of Arizona and he's still the same QB who can wins games in the right situations but he won't be more than that. Montgomery had one game where he fumbled early (rare for him) and he never touched the ball again in the 2nd half. That's the guy Nagy said he was glad we traded up in the draft to get. Nagy loved Montgomery's ability to pass catch and run routes and used that how many times? At least this time around Pace traded up for defensive players. Honestly the s*** show we called an offense last year, including Trubisky stepping back in performance, makes me more concerned with Nagy than anyone else. People forget he called plays in his career and grand total of half of one season before we hired him. He might be better HC than OC but if he won't relinquish the reins to the offense he could take the entire ship down with the offense. Nagy now has his QB (Foles) who is proven to provide a baseline level of performance in this offense. There's more than one reason Pace went out and made that trade. If the offense still struggles like last year with Foles at the helm I expect Pace to make a HC change mid-season. He won't waste his Superbowl caliber defense and that may be the only way he can save his job. Bill Lazor can call plays and Pagano can be interim HC. Trubisky has stolen the spotlight away from where it truly should be IMO. By the way if Olin Kreutz is right and Trubisky can be successful in another style offense (less read-option more play action/rollout) then that too is on Nagy. A good coach has to recognize what his players are good at and work to build that into the offense more often. If Trubisky isn't good on RPOs, as Nagy alluded to mid-season last year, why did he keep calling them? There are other options in the NFL playbook even Nagy's NFL playbook. Time will tell on this one.
  21. It's hard to predict injuries but the physics of the sport will never change. Smaller players must exert more energy and play at a higher level of exertion to deliver the same force as a bigger player. There are a ton of variables here from the work ethic of individual players, and the types of workouts they do, to speed/momentum of individuals in the collision, etc. Smaller DBs know this and they are coached to go low on tackles. Fans know this too and usually enjoy a laugh when a DB tries to tackle a TE up high. Constantly having to go low for tackles requires an earlier commitment to the tackle and makes a player susceptible to being juked out of the play. Other requirements of the DB or Safety role require players to run fast and change direction quickly. Bigger athletes usually struggle in those situations. https://247sports.com/nfl/chicago-bears/Article/Mike-Brown-struggles-missing-Bears-Super-Bowl-132758727/
  22. A tweener does not have to be an Olineman. Just one of the additional game day actives has to be. So it seems there is a minimum # of Oline that need to be active on game day.

He did that while playing with the shoulder injury. I can't imagine he'll be worse when he's able to lift both arms over his head.
