I don’t have that in a specific number but in my line of work most new engineers don’t get it all correct for a couple years, even if they have PhD. I evaluate more on the body of work and are they trending in the right direction. That’s especially true with new managers. I look at coaches and players in the same manner. Last year the consensus on Kyler Gordon through about 3/4 of the season was that he was a wasted pick. Leading a large organization through a very difficult time takes a lot to turn it around and Improve performance. Is it all perfect? Not at all. Is the trend positive and improving? IMO yes and the record validates that along with many performance stats. For example, I don’t believe having the NFL’s best rushing defense is an accident or something the players are doing to spite their coaches When I consider we were the worst rushing defense last year and fixing that was job one in the off-season I’d say that’s a pretty good turnaround. If he sticks around can Flus learn from his hiring mistakes? I think so. As someone who has made mistakes hiring people I can say most managers do learn but not all. I also don’t think Flus is the ego maniac Nagy was who always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. In fact his history of changing his cover 2 heavy scheme to adapt to modern offenses by using more cover 3 shows that. He said as much when he was at Indy.

For those who don’t like our punter Mega Punt just became available. https://www.thecollegefix.com/sdsu-punter-who-lost-nfl-gig-vindicated-as-accuser-drops-rape-claim-against-him/

How many wins were you expecting with this roster in the first year of a rebuild?
-
I’ve never seen him have good accuracy deep. intermediate and short yes. I don’t see that as an elite trait as it’s not hard to find QBs like that. Anticipation is good but not great but a lot of what he does he gets bigger windows. That’s because he has several elite talents pulling a defense apart and a good OC designing the plays. Processing I think is good He’s still young and will get better. I give him a ton of credit for picking up their scheme and executing it very well as a rookie. He’s what I thought he’d be coming out of college although he got there sooner than I expected. I didn’t see anything last night to make me change my opinion.

If I’m reading this correctly we are predominantly a cover 3 defense.
-
He’s getting a ton of credit today.
-
I think so too with new OC and DC.
-
If he were allowed to be in the usual day 3 rookie WR role his issues might not be so glaring. That is sitting on the bench.

IMO Lamar has improved a ton in the pocket. His growth this year actually surprised me. Plus he’s also slowed down a lot as a runner. Still good but not the crazy stuff of years past.

Just curious... Got numbers on Bagent?

Interesting because he never looked smart on the field at ASU. The raw talent and lack of muscle was there. If he’s improved then the team needs to understand his study habits and learning comprehension because that is what carries forward to the NFL. Yesterday I watched a highlight film of Daniels. Naturally all they put in it are deep passes and big runs. I gotta search for more to see the quick reads and throws into tight windows on short routes.

I start with firing the OC and WR coach. There are clear scheme issues and while I personally lean towards the benefit of the doubt for coaches and players there are just too many poor details in the play calls and play execution. Then I bring in more talent.

I can accept your premise on the Fields question. I disagree on your premise that the only two possible answers are yes or no. i agree on the belief that if there is a clear top 5 QB caliber rookie then you just draft him. If that player were in this draft we likely don’t have this thread. What interesting is your list of elite QBs includes Purdy. Purdy has no elite traits whatsoever. Rather he is the poster child for using draft capital elsewhere to build the best possible roster around an average QB. That is the nature of the debate. At least for me because I’m solidly in the maybe category when it comes to Fields. Even if I don’t think he’ll ever be top 10 could he be top 15 with the right OC? After some of the crappy plays we ran against Cleveland for me that answer is yes. Or at least most likely yes. Because of that and the middling QB class (IMO) I prefer to keep drafting Pro Bowl caliber players Rd 1. There are two LT candidates. Bowers at TE and a few WRs. By the way. After some reflection it’s clear how much an elite TE has meant to both Brady and Mahomes. Neither was the same without them on the field. Still good but not unstoppable. If you want to come down a notch look at Goff and LaPorta. I could make a strong case for Bowers as the must have receiving option.

Who said their strategy was to draft a difference maker at QB in the 4th Rd?
-
If the Bears weren’t my favorite team I couldnt think of a better player to replace Justin Fields. But they are and I would not replace him with someone who has the exact same issues I read about here every day. Add in that Justin is already a proven leader in the locker room and Williams is?

Very nice

I don't think i've ever been able to say this since I moved to Arizona in the 1990s but I haven't watched a single Cards game all year. I have no clue what that team looks like on the field. Beyond Kyler Murray I can't even name a single Cards player. But it is Dec and us Arizonans hate cold weather, at least those of us in the southern part of the state. Bears win.

To make matters worse our RBs are horrible at pass blocking. That includes Roschon. He’s getting playing time solely because he’s the best blocker among bad options. He’s far from the best RB with the ball in his hands.
-
Which good HC candidate do you think wants to come here knowing he’s on a 2 year leash?
-
MHJr and Bowers are like 7-11 they are open all the time. Even with a DB in perfect position you can throw these two open.

Make it so!
