  1. That statement about not playing for anybody after the 3rd Rd, earlier it was after the 1st Rd, is just one more indication of some bad character IMO. It was all very odd behavior.
  2. I hope it's not Acho, he's not that good of a player and that doesn't bode well. For the defense I found this which may have already been posted here: Base defense: http://www.ninersnation.com/2013/5/2/42942...ickel-4-3-under http://dabearsbeat.com/2015/01/21/what-cou...der-vic-fangio/ Nickel defense. Here I see Amos fitting in very well if he learns the role. http://bearingthenews.com/?p=3463
  3. My thoughts remain the same. Brady cheated and the Commish will let him and his buddy Kraft get away with it. For all those who state there is no "proof" realize that the majority of criminal trials are won based on circumstantial evidence. Since this was not a trial the only conclusion this report can state is that the circumstantial evidence shows he at a least generally knew what was going on. By the way, domestic violence is a huge issue in the NFL and here on the board yet most cases are based on circumstantial evidence. Ray Rice with the video being one exception. In this case there was substantial circumstantial evidence in the amount of tampered footballs that were on the New England sideline and none that were on the Colts sideline after both groups were validated by the officiating crew. It's a statistical improbability for that to happen by a random event. ------------------------------------------------------------ https://sites.google.com/a/colemantech-high...antial-evidence Circumstantial evidence is used mostly used in criminal cases. It is false that circumstantial evidence is way less useful then direct evidence it is quite the contrary in fact more cases are won with circumstantial evidence than with direct evidence. The Scott Peterson trial is a perfect example of using purely circumstantial evidence to win a case.Scott was accused for the murder of his wife and their unborn baby and then dumping them in the sea.The prosecution used his wife’s DNA on his boat and homemade cement anchors as their key circumstantial evidence. Other circumstantial evidence they found was what he was carrying with him when he was arrested, with things that was suspicious like four different cellphones 15,000 dollars and dyed hair. They were circumstantial because both with both pieces of evidence the jury had to infer what happened which is the basic definition for circumstantial evidence.Scott Peterson was convicted and sentenced to death by lethal injection. ------------------------------------------------------------ As Ryan Clark said on ESPN: "Every quarterback knows how his balls feel." The commissioner delayed this entire investigation for months and released it only after the draft and at the beginning of the dog days of summer. He will let Brady off with, at best, a small fine or maybe do something stupid like suspending him for a preseason game.
  4. It does matter because it means your rookies can come into rookie minicamp on a full contract as opposed to the "insurance policy" many teams have their rookies practice under. I've seen it here in AZ in recent years since the rookie slotting rules were setup and players were saying they'd be there but they weren't sure if they'd hit the weight room or how much they'd do on the field. I know there isn't much room to maneuver among the rookie salary slots but there is a little bit. By not penny-pinching and having our players signed and fully onboard before rookie mini-camp is a good thing for the morale of the new players IMO. Right now there are only two 1st Rd picks signed and I applaud Stein and our GM for getting this done early.
  5. When did we move Washington inside to DE? He was one of our fastest LBs seems odd to not take advantage of that at OLB.
  6. Well of course I agree with you here but as we both know, Scherff was far from Ogden's ability, and that was my point. I don't know if the majority defended the SMC pick. I think it's more the majority said a) WTF then Who is this guy? then after another beer c) We need to give him a chance. That chance didn't pay off. I know I felt Chandler Jones fit our needs better, or even Nick Perry who ended up with the Packers and hasn't done much at all as an OLB. I even thought a guy like DeCastro would have been a better choice. After we've given up 50pts in several games here we are.
  7. He's more competition for the RT spot and that can't be a bad thing but let's hope Cornick doesn't win the job so we'll know we have someone better at that spot. Cornick seems to be a better run blocker than pass blocker and it's obvious once again that is priority over pass protection which is the complete opposite from what Trestman wanted. If it's run blocking first then I hope Fabuluje wins the job. If Cornick is as bad as the Broncos fans stated then it's odd that Gase and Fox bring him in here. Fox is on his last job in the NFL so he might not be so worried about how things end up but Gase is looking to become a HC. Who made this call? I saw comments on the Denver message board that Cornick would be a better OG than RT. Perhaps Gase and Fox see the same and brought him here to compete with Ola instead of Mills? This is an understatement since Fox got fired…. but there must have been a huge rift between Fox/Gase and Elway/Manning on how to setup and run the offense. For an offense that was ranked so highly it amazing how much conflict was going on. It's going to be very interesting to see how this shakes out as we get into the season. Peyton will be Peyton but will they be running the ball as effectively as they did last year? Cutler will be Cutler but will we be running the ball? If so, behind who?
  8. I think they are different types of players but both will be very successful. Sports Science left out run blocking ability and there is where Kevin White stands out far and away above Cooper. Years down the road when comparing the two nobody will compare those extra yards our RBs get because of White's blocking but we'll know.
  9. Exactly, you don't take Scherff at #5 when game changing playmakers are staring at you. I don't think Scherff will be a bad player at all but if you asked me about the gap between him and Grasu in the 3rd I don't think it's that big. They have different styles of play but both are very effective. I do thank the man for helping White fall to us.
  10. Those would be the vets you don't want on your team.
  11. I don't know where he got this info. According to Sportrac, Kevin White's contract alone will have a cap hit of at least $3mil. According to OvertheCap, last years 7th overall pick Mike Evans had a $2.6mil cap hit in 2014 so the projected hit for White around $3mil seems realistic. Back at Sportrac they estimate Goldman having a cap hit of $1mil, Grasu $600k, Langford $550k, Amos $500k, Fabuluje $460k. Add those up and its more than $6mil for the rookie contracts. OvertheCap shows our rookie pool costing $6.2mil against the cap. http://overthecap.com/draft
  12. He's a FA so there is zero need to be in the supplemental draft. Threatening a lawsuit continues to show his stupidity and arrogance. The agent that is advising him on these tactics should have been fired the day before the draft. When this news first broke I thought it was odd he'd leave the draft to simply "speak with police". We have phones and even exotic stuff like video chats these days. You can even do those phone calls under oath via video phone so no need to be present just to tell them what you know. If they really had to see him in person he could have flown out in the morning the day before the draft and flown back to Chicago that night and been at the draft. Better to say this was someone he had cared for deeply and with the emotional trauma of the situation he felt it was best to return home. Then before he's even on the plane he states if he's not taken in the 1st Rd then he's going into next year's draft. Then he changes and he says that's only true if he's not taken in the 1st-3rd RDs. Then the NFL tells him that he'll be a FA and can sign anywhere anytime and, although I'm not sure about this, I presume he can get any amount of money he can negotiate, including a very simple 1yr prove it deal. Now he comes back stating he wants to sue to get in the supplemental draft. This whole scenario is rotten and nothing Collins has done has made sense. If he's innocent he would have been painted by the media as a victim in this crime as this ex-girlfriend was reportedly pregnant with his child. It's impossible to have any idea what is going on with the lawyers but it seems very likely he was asked by the DA not to leave town or he'd have been back in Chicago on draft day. I wouldn't touch this kid at all. If we want a 1st Rd RT with next years pick we can draft one with next years pick. In the meantime, let's focus on coaching up Tayo and getting him in shape because he has more than enough ability to take the RT job away from Mills. Fabuluje may never protect the edge as well as Collins but he'll pave the way in front of Forte far better than Collins.

    UDFA Thread

I looked into a few of these UDFAs. The ones who stood out to me are Norwood WR/KR, Callaghan CB, Vogler TE, and Meredith WR. Norwood seems to have more play speed than his 4.6 forty indicates. He certainly left a lot of guys behind him on the highlights. Meredith has great hands and I love the way he goes after the ball. His play speed seems slower than the supposed 4.5 forty he runs. I can't see him breaking away from NFL DBs. Vogler seems like he has the potential to develop into a 3rd option as a TE. Callahan has the speed to cover and the natural ball instincts you want to see in a CB. He's not very big but might develop into a NB.
  14. I would be surprised if they did that because Jimmie Ward 5'11" 195lbs and was very quick in coverage. That quickness is needed in the slot position. Watch highlights of Amos and he's not that quick changing directions. Amos is a very good athlete but he's not at the same level quickness as Jimmie Ward. OTOH he has enough coverage ability and the size/strength to handle TEs. If we choose to have him play centerfield he has enough speed to cover the deep routes, and enough punch to make players remember he's there waiting for them. It doesn't hurt that Amos has a background as a CB and if we're in a bind with injuries having that flexibility isn't a bad thing. I just don't think we should make this his main focus.
  15. I read that article from SBnation. The character of this kid is really good. Initially I thought a kid who changes around from school to school, in and out of football, doesn't really have the dedication needed to succeed at the professional level. After reading his story and how he worked to take care of his sister and the struggles he's had with no parents around since high school he's done very well for himself. For all that he has gone through in his life he never got on the wrong path. He's had little experience on the field and little coaching so there's plenty of upside on his technique and I think he will put in the work now that he has the opportunity to focus on nothing but football. I watched the sole video of him on draftbreakdown.com. He's a beast with tremendous power if he can just learn to stay lower he'll be moving people all over the field. In that one game against Oklahoma the DEs coming up against him just quit trying to get through or around him. He might need a year to put it together but he could very well be our starting RT for years to come.
  16. I hope they don't play Amos at NB. Keep him at FS and let him learn how to play it well.
  17. I can't remember how much cap space we freed up when we traded Marshall but when you evaluate that deal you will have to include McPhee, or Rolle, along with White's contributions minus whatever player we could have had in the 7th Rd and/or the idea of having Marshall and Vic Beasley (since we could have also drafted another position. I think we'll come out ahead.
  18. I saw the subject line and first though, without even looking, is this has to be from Jason. When we go across the board I'd say that you are correct. Not a lot of sizzle in this draft but I like all of the picks until we got to 6th Rd. But at that point it's whatever. I don't dislike Fabuluje per se but when a guy moves around from one place to another throughout college it's a red flag to me that he might not have the work ethic needed to take advantage of his talent. He gets to prove me wrong. From what I see Goldman looks like a twin of Ferguson at the LOS. I don't mind seeing them side by side on 1st and 2nd downs. They will almost always command 3 blockers between them on running plays. Never more than two on passing plays though. I do like the RB pick. I was calling for it for weeks, 2 years really, especially the need for speed. I liked Carey coming out of UofA but he needs to do more to impress me this preseason. I still think he'll be a good backup RB for us and hopefully the transition to a more run oriented offense will benefit him.

    6th Round Pick

Do we move him inside? His skills at OT seem raw but that kind of power inside is a good fit and he can work in his technique without as much risk.

    5th round pick

I like Amos and finding him in the 5th seems like good value. Kid needs some coaching and time to develop but has the traits you look for in a FS. Despite his size he's not that physical in the box but he's productive. CBS had him as 2nd best FS prospect in the draft behind Randall who the Packers took in Rd 1. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players...909/adrian-amos Against Ohio State… http://draftbreakdown.com/video/adrian-amo...hio-state-2014/
  21. First of all he has the long speed we haven't had out of the backfield in some time and I think that's a welcome addition. The way he runs reminds me of a 9/10ths version of Tevin Coleman. Not quite as fast, not quite as much elusiveness in the open field, not much power, but like Forte he's versatile and can play split out as a WR.

    GM ability

Easy to go BPA when there are needs at every spot on the field. We'll see how this works down the road.
  23. Collins can't go into the draft next year. If he chooses not to play this year (or if he can't) then he'll have to be a UDFA. In this case a 4th Rd contract is a whole lot better than being a UDFA.
