Trent Edwards. Not sure how respected Chris Collinsworth is.
-
Exactly what I was hoping for. See it, read it, throw it even if it isn't to Brandon Marshall.
-
I think Ellis is an upgrade over Amobi Okoye, and an upgrade over anything Idonije could do inside at DT.
-
Now we know why Carimi was jettisoned. I speculated it was Britton who was performing well...I was wrong. Brown might be setting himself up to be a starter in 2014. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...ew-coaches.html

His foot issue was first reported back in Feb/Mar. Stupid reporter just listed it again as an issue without actually doing any research.
-
Said to be minor, happened while stretching out, or laying out, for a pass. I'll take the positive side and (IIRC) note that he was working out with his QB on his own the week before the minicamp.

Not much if you want to stay 10-6 and miss the playoffs again. That's not the goal, nor should it be and to stay pat, or make minor tweaks as we've done in years past did not work. If we were close to the Superbowl I'd say we shouldn't be making such drastic changes. We have a new coaching staff and new playbooks. Less so on defense which validates Jason's point...how much change did a successful unit need? Other than losing Urlacher, who based on league-wide interest was at the end of his career, we have the same defense with a few new rookies at LB and vets to replace Urlacher. Essentially we changed out Urlacher and added depth and youth where it was sorely needed for the past few years. Yet the offense has not been successful in years. The major change for the team is really 1) a new offensive scheme and 2) 80% of the Oline being new. Aside from that we have the same top 3 WR, same top 2 RB, same QB. Isn't that what we've been asking for?

We did take a chance on bad character when we drafted Rodriguez. Two additional strikes later he showed he has a flat learning curve. We took a chance this year with Marquess Wilson. We signed D.J. Williams who had been suspended by the league in the past. We traded for Brandon Marshall. We still have J'Marcus Webb on the team after his run-in with the law. We just spent the 19th overall pick on Kyle Long who had his own issues in college. The sense that we only want choir boys on the roster is far from correct. Emery has said he understands people make mistakes the question is do you learn from it. I'm not happy we gave up on Rodriguez but I guarantee you everyone else in the locker room got the message. I'm not happy with Fiammetta World Peace either. Hopefully we do something else here. I think Carimi's status simply came down to the fact he'd be competing for a backup spot on the roster and he was one player we could get something for.

As expected: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000021...about-tim-tebow

Emery is clearly very decisive and he's not interested in what others think, or what the "norm" is. Between hiring Trestman, cutting Carimi after just two seasons, drafting Kyle Long in Rd 1, Urlacher gone, Rodriguez cut, etc. he is making this his team very quickly.

Assuming that is Tavaris then my answer is no. Assuming it's Travis then it's a guy I've never heard of and my answer is no. Then both of me are in agreement. Vonta Leach is a definite yes, we should be interested. I was thinking he's just a run blocker but he's caught 20+ passes in several seasons so he might be able to do enough as a receiver.

You don't take Brady off the field to let Tebow run a wildcat play...that's just plain stupid. Patriots like Mallet as their backup and Tebow as a 3rd QB doesn't do anything to help the team as he'd be inactive on game days. There is no way he went there to be a QB. Expect to be kept in the dark as to how the Patriots will use him.

Garza didn't play that well last year so I think he has real competition in Lonergan. I agree he's the favorite and should end up the starter but after seeing all the changes this coaching staff has made on the line he's far from secure as a starter IMO. I prefer to have his experience making calls especially if he's going to be next to a guy like Long who has very limited experience playing OG.
-
We signed Eben Britton to compete at OG as well. While the team might like Webb it's hard to say he's safe with Mills and Scott competing at OT. Webb hasn't been a poster boy for good behavior either.

Emery not putting up with any BS. Time to get in line or you can expect to move on.

After missing two weeks of OTAs the club is now happier with 5th Rd pick Mills and former UDFA Brown as backups over Carimi. Really surprised they pulled the trigger on this deal so soon, I expected they'd at least look at him this coming week. It was likely a guaranteed pick and after seeing the other two players for the last couple weeks they clearly felt he didn't offer more than either of them. This is either exciting news or depressing news. Depresssing because another 1st Rd pick was wasted. Exciting because we clearly have Oline coaches who are taking the line in a different direction, and rapidly. After years of inept performance I hope this signals what we've all been waiting for. Kromer said he does not care who you are and where you were drafted, he wants the best players. These coaches and Emery have also sent a very clear message to the rest of the roster!

Players always say good things about their new coaches (see Cutler/Martz, Cutler/Tice, Urlacher/Babich as DC, etc.) However, I was actually surprised at how he threw the previous coaching staff under the bus. You normally don't see that in the news. Lovie was reportedly well liked and a "players' coach". Of course then he recovered to say that all of his previous coaches were great too, these guys are just greater. My question is do we finally have an offense, and a coaching staff, that is able to take advantage of what a defense gives us, and willing to do so? For years under Lovie we never showed that ingenuity on offense while at the same time our defense was great but vanilla in what they did. How many times have we come into a game against the worst run defenses and then couldn't run? Or against one of the worst pass defenses and couldn't or wouldn't pass? Naturally we always came back to the fact our oline was bad and whatnot yet other teams who had bad Oline play would have more success than we did. Packers had a bad run defense and we call 7 run plays. No matter the season, no matter how weak the opposing defense, under Lovie it always seemed as if our offense was unable to create any mismatch. We might have one game early where we put up good points but after that it's as if everyone saw what we were doing, stopped it, and we never had the counterpunch. The famous "we're going to put Hester in a spot where he can make plays" line always showed up in training camp and never on the field. Partly Hester's fault to be sure, but also the coaches couldn't see that yet kept trying to force the square peg in a round hole.

Sometimes they bring in players like this to see if they would be a viable option if someone gets injured either in camp or even during the season. So yes, due diligence.
-
Yes, he did but there are some stone age folks like myself that don't follow Twitter.
-
They mentioned this on NFL Live today but i didn't see it posted anywhere. He has had a very long recovery from his hip surgery but at least he's finally cleared for full practice.
-
I give Emery credit for looking at all options but I am not optimistic at all about JaMarcus Russell and I wasn't even when he was coming out of college. He never read defenses well in college and was worse at it in the NFL.
-
It appears he's not going anywhere. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post...-evan-rodriguez
-
He was part of the record setting defense in New Orleans. His 22 solo tackles the last two years along with a total of 0.5 sacks goes a long way to explaining why nobody wants him. I am not optimistic if we go after this reclamation project. Missing in this news has been the fact that we seem to be parting ways with Idonije. Izzy is more of a DE although I know he spent some time at DT. It seems the Bears are happy with what they have at DE after the draft.
-
I'm on the side of second chances as well. What we don't know is if there are other transgressions Rodriguez has made regarding his behavior on the team, locker room etc. We just don't know what our new coaches and front office think of him at this point and so I think it's a real possibility he gets cut or at least someone else is brought in for a serious competition at that position.
