  1. Yes, and our rookie WR is diligently taking notes on how he does it.
  2. I think Cutler cares but at this point he appears much more comfortable being who he is and so these media reports affect him less each year.
  3. Definitely don't expect to see a rookie WR playing after just one day of half a practice. Isn't Friday mostly just a walk-through of the game plan? I'm very glad we will have him back on the field for the 49ers because their physical CBs will shutdown Bennett and Hester. Jeffrey will give them some concern opposite of Marshall. While Jeffrey is getting back into the game physically I expect mentally he'll be much farther along than he was when he was injured.
  4. I think Rodriguez is a good blocker, he's just not an inline blocker like Spaeth. I agree with the proposed "better solution". We knew going into the offseason that fixing the offense would be a 2 yr project. I would have preferred to fix at least one piece on the Oline and then fixed the h-back position next year. I'd have survived just fine with Clutts blocking for Forte for another season.

    Defining Game?

For all the chatter about who we've played just who has Houston played? Miami (won 30-10) Jacksonville (won 27-7) Denver (won 31-25) Tennessee (won 38-14) NY Jets (won 23-17) Green Bay (lost 42-24) Baltimore (won 43-13) Buffalo (won 21-9)
  6. Good point. As Bears fans we haven't seen a true #1 WR in a long time. While I'd love to see more balance in the passing attach I'm sure our opponents would also like us to go to Hester or Bennett more often. The one guy I'm still waiting to see catching passes is Rodriguez but protecting the QB comes first.

    Defining Game?

Not a defining game rather a defining two game stretch. The next two games define for everyone where the Bears belong in the playoff discussion.
  8. The scrum push in and of itself isn't that big of a deal to me either. What I liked about it was that every offensive player except Marshall and Cutler were in on it and Marshall was headed into it when they crossed the goal line. The offense has certainly had its struggles this year but it was nice to see everyone join in and earn that TD together.
  9. If he wants to be signed to another big contract then at this point I'd prefer to use Hester's salary to fix the Oline. I don't think we'd lose that much on special teams returns with Weems and I don't see an impact worth worrying about at WR. I don't think Weems would do much differently (good or bad) than what we've seen from Hester so far but I also think if Knox is healthy next season then he's a lock to replace Hester. I'm not banking on that happening but the Bears have time to make this decision so they'll know how Knox is progressing early next year.
  10. I don't see Hester running away from anyone. He's still fast but not fast enough to pull away from players nor is he as elusive as he used to be. I'm not sure what the Hester package is but typically when you have an elite player you design something for them to get 1on1 coverage where you expect them to break the first tackle and then make the big play. Even in those situations Hester gets tackled by the first defender.
  11. I don't see Hester having the same burst he used to have. Without that his time as the top returner is gone but that's not to say he isn't still a good return man. He is not and never will be a good WR in this league. He can be a contributor on offense and he can be a good KR/PR. Eric Weems can do the same thing and IMO that sets Hester's value. Will he accept that? On Url I definitely want him back. We don't have the depth yet to replace him and when we draft that guy I want Url there to help get him up to speed. Url won't be a full sideline to sideline player like he used to be but he has improved each week and is playing much better now that he did in week 1. I think he can be effective next year as well. Moreso than Hester, Url deserves to be overpaid but he should not be paid as if he's a top 5 LB. I don't know what his market value is, but his value to the team given our lack of depth is higher.
  12. If only. Marshall is having a great season. Hester is not. Can't wait for Jeffrey to return to the mix and along with Earl we should be able to get our WR corps going.
  13. Cutler had a bad game period. Given his injury against Detroit and the fact he could barely throw afterwards I was happy he was in the Carolina game. I wasn't surprised his deep throw came up short by 5 yards but I was surprised we called that play. This week he has an extra day to rest and hopefully two weeks removed from the injury he won't be feeling the effects in his throwing. Or in his head.
  14. Peyton Manning says "this will never happen".
  15. If we want to talk about average players then we should talk about Hester. Going after Cutler as if he's the biggest problem we have on offense is missing the blocking. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/team...eer-passing.htm Cutler ranks 4th among Bears QBs in total yards, soon he'll be second behind the famous Sid Luckman. He should pass him up next season. He's already our most accurate passer in team history and he has more TDs than Harbaugh, McMahon, and Kramer all three of which had better Oline play. Is he Tom Brady? No. Is he a winning QB? Yes. Did I mention he's in his 3rd offense since joining the Bears?
  16. I'll gladly take that 15 yd penalty for a crack back block on Suh.
  17. Still can't figure out why he ended up this way. You'd think as bad as our LG play has been at times that his versatility would have been worth keeping around for just a $1mil/yr. This is not Lovie's style. At some point we'll hear why he fell so far from the good graces of the coaching staff to get dumped mid-season. Did he gripe about not getting a shot to start at LG? Not getting enough reps at LT in camp? Trying to figure out what Emery is doing too. We just signed another TE giving us a lot of depth at one position. I can understand the Zach Bowman signing for special teams with McManis hurt but why keep 5 TEs over a former starter for one of the weakest roster spots? Nothing in the first few games makes me think Chris Spencer is a better backup at LG than Chris Williams.
  18. Eldridge says he's lined up in the backfield as a FB before and enjoys it. Kyle Adams won't make it there as a blocker and Spaeth and Davis are strictly inline blockers. Rodriguez returned to practice on Monday but Eldridge seems like a chance at H-back depth that the Bears couldn't pass up. I think the Bears have missed Rodriguez' blocking out of the backfield far more than they've admitted.
  19. At this point it seems more like due diligence with our H-back and two RBs injured.
  20. I remember when the "real" referees robbed the Seattle Seahawks of a Super Bowl victory. Robbed the Oakland Raiders of a Super Bowl birth. Robbed Julius Peppers of countless holding penalties the last couple seasons. Green Bay had plenty of opportunities, 4 quarter's worth, to put this game away and couldn't do it. As long as the Packers complain about the bulls..t pass interference call that extended their drive to what would be their only TD in the game then it's fair.but they won't complain about that bogus call. Therefore bad officiating gave the Packers one TD and gave the Seahawks one TD and that's a wash....Seattle should have won 7-6.
  21. When I hear a Packer fan complain about the BS pass interference call that extended their TD drive then I'll listen to them complain about the last play of the game. I'll listen but won't care. Plenty of opportunities to win the game well before that and they couldn't do it. Talk about their 8 sacks in the first half...fix that before you even begin to complain about the refs.

    Tim Jennings

If he keeps this going he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl.
  23. It is already clear that Emery won't be paying anything close to his current contract unless there is a huge turnaround in his performance. It's clear he doesn't have the same burst he used to have. He is still an outstanding PR even if he makes bad decisions at times and as a backup WR I like having him on our team. His name alone could bring him far more money with another team than what we should pay him and if that happens let him go. Use the cash to fix the Oline.
  24. Had to stop laughing before I could type: Kolb and beating/injury have gone hand in hand here in AZ and back in Philly. Not sure which rookie QB you are referring to (unless you are talking about Skelton who is in his 3rd season) but regardless his stats are bad and yes, Kolb knows he's fighting for a job.
