If he keeps this going he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl.

It is already clear that Emery won't be paying anything close to his current contract unless there is a huge turnaround in his performance. It's clear he doesn't have the same burst he used to have. He is still an outstanding PR even if he makes bad decisions at times and as a backup WR I like having him on our team. His name alone could bring him far more money with another team than what we should pay him and if that happens let him go. Use the cash to fix the Oline.

Had to stop laughing before I could type: Kolb and beating/injury have gone hand in hand here in AZ and back in Philly. Not sure which rookie QB you are referring to (unless you are talking about Skelton who is in his 3rd season) but regardless his stats are bad and yes, Kolb knows he's fighting for a job.
-
It's something but hard to be confident. I don't think Spencer ever got comfortable with his footwork on the left side but I'm just basing that on the fact he's always getting pushed around.
-
and wishing he had a full year contract. If I were Armando Allen I'd be nervous, very nervous.
-
I would say that lineup was intentional against the Packers to take away all deep threats and keep everything in front of them. We gave up one TD to one of the top 3 offenses and the best QB in the league so I'd say it worked.

I watched Kevin Kolb get chased all over the field today yet he never put his head down and kept on fighting and pulled out a win. This was a different Kolb than what I've seen in the past when he used to panic like Cutler did. I've been very critical of Kolb for that but today he earned a victory on the road against the Patriots, very impressive performance on his part behind a lackluster Oline. If you want to be an elite QB that's what it takes.

I think Jennings got a 2yr deal but in essence you could say that's probably a one year deal if the Bears were to choose. If he keeps playing this way I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears try to extend his contract either mid-season or in the offseason. We need to secure one good CB with Tillman aging.

Yes, hard to fault the D for holding the best quarterback and one of the top offenses in the NFL to just one TD. Offense was a disaster from play calling to execution across the board. I remember years ago under Jauron we played Detroit with a bad run D and we passed all game long. Same deal here. If you can't game plan on your own at least read a newspaper article or two to learn about your opponent. The only offensive player who impressed me was Michael Bush.
-
D impressed me until they got tired late in the game.

I agree with everything said because it was horrible offense all the way around: Bad play calling --this did feel like I was watching the Martz offense with Cutler sitting back there for 5 seconds, 2-3 before he started running. Where were the quick reads? The running plays...we had some and they were effective especially with Bush in there. Bad Oline play...nobody knew who they were blocking and if they did, they couldn't block them anyway. Bad QB play...Jay looked lost yet determined to hit big play after big play and held the ball way too long on many plays. Kellen Davis...this is your last year as a Bear. You got your big payday and relaxed all offseason. Matt Forte...if one more announcer claims he's an outstanding pass protector they should turn in their microphone and go home. Far too often he blocks like he's wearing a skirt. Somebody needs to sit him down in the film room and watch some clips of Walter blocking.

I'm thinking it's time to unleash Mr. Rodriguez into the passing game against one Nick Perry. Perry has been relatively lost in his new LB role and responsibilities all through training camp and has not done well in pass coverage, not even on run defense. He was one of the bigger disappointments for the Packers in camp. The 49ers took advantage of him by running at him and were very effective. We should do the same and then use play action to allow Rodriguez to slip by him. I won't pretend to know the Packers coverage schemes but I have to think this is either going to result in some blown coverages or at a minimum some hesitation on the pass rush from Perry.

Will we make the change this week? I find it odd that nobody in the media has even speculated about the Bears adding an OT and what it means for Chris Williams.
-
Toeaina didn't do much IMO although I haven't watched a replay of the game. The addition of Collins back into the mix should help us if Paea is healthy. Paea will move into Toeaina's spot as the starter at NT, or at a minimum this week split the time there with Toeaina leaving Melton/Collins to rotate at the 3-spot.
-
Signals the move of Chris Williams back into the left guard spot. I think that's a good thing.

He has 32 million reasons to be happy. I think this is being overblown by the media. Forte stated he takes pride in being a complete back and no doubt he does not like the label that he can't score on the goal line. It's not surprising from a professional who works hard at his craft. Bush on the other hand doesn't want the label of being a battering ram and wants to be used in the open field as well. There's enough carries to go around for both and this will fade away.
-
Let's see: stay at home and earn $0, play for Bears and earn $700,000 and have a better chance at another contract next year. He played his hand and lost. I'm sure his agent told him someone would be interested in him. At this point I can't believe if the Bears called he'd refuse to come back.

Matthews double team? No, Carimi can handle that assignment. Webb will need some help off the edge. ----------------------- Overall I was impressed with the team's performance both on offense and defense. We still have weaknesses to improve upon but plays on both sides of the ball negated that. Defense: Jennings was outstanding. Urlacher was not and really looked lost out there over-running plays. However having him back and with some game time under his belt he should be more ready for the Packers game. Pass rush....was a bit inconsistent but we saw pressure throughout the game and quite often forced Luck to make off-balance throws that went for incompletions. It seemed almost everyone on the Dline had pressure at various points in the game except perhaps for Toeaina. Hopefully Paea is in better shape for the Packers game. Run D...meh some good some bad. Offense: Marshall is the real deal and it's nice to have a WR who can get off press coverage quickly. Cutler was targetting him too often forcing passes into tight coverage. It was week 1 and after seeing some film I expect Cutler to improve. Despite that there were plenty of big plays among the receivers proving it will be difficult to defend this offense. Alshon Jeffrey...to whoever said he was slow before the draft....THANK YOU! Hester needs to be a little more decisive when he gets the ball but he'll be a good compliment to Marshall and Jeffrey. Didn't see much from the TEs, some missed blocks, some good blocks but nothing much in the passing game. I thought Rodriguez make some very good blocks in the run game on the edge. He was missing in the passing game, maybe we kept that in our back pocket for the Packers game. Oline: Confused early on, they were effective throughout the rest of the game.

Somewhere out there lurks Kalil Bell and I won't be surprised to see him back on the team. At a discount of course.

Goodell stood his ground and refused to name his sources for the evidence. Without putting forth his witnesses, and subjecting them to cross-examination, he didn't have enough evidence of the players involvement. I believe that will be a different story if the coaches try the same path. For one he has a video of Williams exhorting his players to injure other players. This wasn't a criminal case so I assume it's not the same burden of proof requiremen but Goodell has to have some evidence to support his case. Can the league find a way to use their evidence against the players without revealing their sources? I tend to doubt it. While there are plenty of whistleblower protections that would prevent an employer from taking actions against them, releasing their names to the league in a sport where violence is "contained" could put those players at risk for severe injury. Especially when you consider we already had most of the Saints defenders wanting to injure players. If Goodell has to let these players back on the field to protect the whistleblowers then I'd accept that. At least has the ring leaders out of the league for now.

Not totally surprised. I think best case for Price is that he gets a one year deal with some team. More likely is that Price sits on the sidelines this season and rehabs. The Bears could, and should, revisit signing him the next offseason. For all the happy talk about re-signing Okoye he only has a 1 year deal with the Bears. It's clear there will be at least one roster spot open for competition among our DTs next season, likely two unless Toeaina suddenly finds an addiction to sacks and TFLs.
-
Last report had Podlesh getting better ahead of schedule and possibly ready to go week 1. I think the Bears used the opportunity with Collins suspension to keep the extra punter for a week and let Podlesh get ready for the Packers. If he's not ready I guess we'll be releasing one of the LBs, I don't know where else they'd go to make room.

Yes, Quigley gets another week to audition for a job somewhere else and our roster is set for the season.
