I thought Orton did well, not great. If anything he helped his chances until that stupid fumble. I was surprised by how well the Oline held up, I definitely expected to see more pressure on pass plays. The Chiefs often had 8 in the box too.

Worked great for me in Phoenix and my brother in Delaware and my Dad in Tucson. Other than struggling through some of those Decatur commercials it was enjoyable. Thanks for the tip.

This is a kid everyone wanted to put on the practice squad. Yes he did all those nice plays against a 3rd string defense and he did them all with a 3rd string offense. Did he even have an Oline in front of him? Every time we ran the ball while Hanie as in there it seemed there were at least 3 Chiefs in the backfield, sometimes 4 or 5. Pass blocking was also poor and he had to move around and make quite a few plays. I really liked what he did tonight.

I'd rather have Ruben back on the roster with one arm.

If I was afraid of getting laughed at I would have never put up this thread. You simply said that I wanted Hass over Booker and that's not the case at all. Booker has been pretty quiet at camp so far and I really haven't heard much positive on him, not much negative either. Given the competition at WR that makes me a bit concerned. Add that to the fact that he sat on the market for some time before the Bears signed him so there wasn't a lot of interest in him. Hass has never seen the field for a reason so I'm not in love with the guy but I know he's a very tough receiver who just finds a way to get to the ball. I'm more than ready to watch the game tomorrow night (if I can find a place) and I certainly hope Booker steps up as many veterans do when the real action starts. I suppose you could flip all this around and say that since Booker hasn't clearly stood out maybe the other WR are stepping up more than we thought they would.

Pennington is no better than Rex or Kyle but he might be a good option as a 3rd QB for us. Since our QB situation is so fluid he might look at that as giving him a good chance to get more playing time in the future.

At some point you gotta read what's written. For the record I liked it when we resigned Booker and I never said I want Hass over Booker at this point in time. I said what will happen if Hass is outplayiing Booker? I'm not in love with players just because of what they've done in the past (neither are the Packers for that matter). I simply want the best players on the field to help this team win. I'd prefer that it's Booker over Hass and I also said I like having his leadership abilities on the roster. IMO that is the most likely scenario. However, I didn't see Booker play much last year so I really don't know what he can do on the field at this point in his career. I'm disappointed to hear very little about Booker during camp and quite honestly I'm surprised that given his level of competition he hasn't clearly won a starting role as shown on our depth chart. All I can really tell from that depth chart is that nobody has really stood out among the WRs. It seems clear who the top 7 are and it also seems likely we're keeping 6 WR. I won't downplay how much experience helps when the real season starts but what if Hass demonstrates better move-the-chains capability than Booker? Will you still go with experience? Or do you cut Bradley because we have 3 other guys with the downfield speed and keep Hass, Booker, Bennett as your underneath move-the-chain WRs and keeping Hester, Davis, and Lloyd who are more athletic downfield threats. At this point it's safe to say Hass is near his peak in ability in this offense. If Hass is outplaying Booker do you assume Booker gets better as the season goes on and he becomes more comfortable in the offense and cut Hass. Or do you look at Bradley who is also had more than enough time to learn this offense and cut him? Nfo, you might be right and Bradley could be gone. Last year Hass was told he had to learn every WR position if he wanted to be on the roster. He never made it obviously but he's added a year of practice and should be better at knowing those routes. Bradley seems to struggle running the correct routes for the one position he was supposed to know much less knowing all 3 or 4 roles. Plus last year Bradley blocked like a matador. If that doesn't change in preseason and Hass can block better he might win the spot.

I totally agree our Oline won't be able to hold their blocks for 3 sec much less a 4 or 5 sec route to develop. However, we can call a short to intermediate passing game and still have the safeties respect the deep threat IF our WR can demonstrate the ability to get YAC. You won't get that with Booker but I hope we get it with at least two of the following: Hester, Davis, Bradley, Bennett, or Lloyd, and I'll add one more guy Olsen.
-
I'll keep my fingers crossed that we can find a couple guys among this group that can block. It would be nice to see Barton and Beekman perform reasonably well.
-
Rashied Davis is in his 3rd year as a WR, Brandon Lloyd has 6 years in the league. I certainly like Booker's leadership over those other two but he's not the only voice of experience in the locker room. It's not like Booker has experience in our offense and can help out the other guys. I think he'll get to that point over the course of the season.

During his physical it was "found" that Favre has a minor abdominal muscle strain. He was listed as day to day much like Hester's hamstring. He'll be boarding a pirate ship in Tampax soon.

I'm anxiously awaiting the preseason games to see how our WR situation will settle out. What seems clear is that Hass is again catching everything thrown at him. In some of the highlight videos I see him out there against the #1 defense catching passes all over the field including deep against Vasher. What we appear to know so far is that Hester isn't going anywhere, neither is Bennett or Davis. It seems Lloyd has played well and seems headed for a roster spot although his big question mark has been toughness and that can only be seen in some of these preseason games. Given what I've heard so far I think he's on the final roster. I believe with Hester splitting time we'll keep six WR and this leaves us with 2 more spots open. The top 3 fighting for those spots are Booker, Bradley, and Hass. If Bradley gets hurt in anyway during the preseason and can't play even for a week I think he's gone. However, he's far more athletic than either Booker or Hass and I think he'll make the roster if he's healthy. This would leave Booker and Hass fighting for the final roster spot. I know Booker has all the experience over Hass and I'd like to see him on the roster but would he really give us something better than Hass? I've heard very little about Booker in camp so far so it appears he hasn't really stood out. This is a WR who was never very fast to begin with and although we all know of Miami's woes offensively was he part of the problem? There was very little interest in Booker after he was cut. I don't think we can tell anything from the depth chart that was released even though Booker is listed alongside Lloyd as the starter. If we were to follow that Bennett would not be on the team. I know it's easier to cut Hass over Booker but which player would really make the team better? If Hass performs better in preseason is it worth it to have Booker's leadership in the locker room?
-
How many of the snaps are the result of switching QBs back and forth with the #1 offense? Then we switch centers when Kreutz got back on the field. The QB battle is good but I think Lovie should make his decision before the third preseason game so everyone can settle down and know what to expect including the WRs, TE, RB who are also unsure who the starters are.
-
I'm going to stay the odd man out. Accuracy alone isn't worth much if you throw to a guy who is well covered. Rex has thrown many passes right at WR in stride only to see a defender jump the route and INT the pass. Was he inaccurate or was it a bad decision? Much of what is being said about accuracy (reading the safety etc.) really isn't "accuracy" it's reading the field and knowing where to throw the ball or rather who to throw the ball to. Obviously if the QB can't throw reasonably accurately nothing else matters anyway. Right now with this damaged goods Oline I think we need a QB who can make a good decision quickly because there won't be much time to read defenses after the snap. I probably lean more towards Rex but IMO this need means Orton has the advantage over Rex. Conversely it's Rex's accuracy that makes him shine so well in training camp.
-
If Rex's downfall has been poor performance under pressure why not start him at home?
-
Seeing Lloyd listed alongside Booker as potential starter pretty much indicates Hass is on his way out.
-
I watched Rogers play in their little family practice and it's obvious why they now want Favre back. I find it to be good news because Favre's favorite Bears' receiver is doing well in camp...Urlacher. I see a couple more picks coming our way.
-
If we have zero depth on the Oline why keep one of those "zero" guys? Better to keep a RB who is quick enough to avoid the unblocked defender.
-
I would like to pick accuracy as the key but I think it's going to come down to decision making. Be accurate all you want but if you are throwing to guy who is double covered it may not matter. While our skill position players are largely unproven I feel we do have plenty of athletic ability among them. Given our QB situation I think the best man will be the guy who makes the "easy" play and let's the skill players do their thing. We don't need to be aggressive throwing into coverage with our defense and special teams.
-
I agree that it appears Forte can be a 3-down RB. Kevin Jones might be too but nobody has seen this guy run and given his injury history it's still a big question mark. I think signing KJ was the right thing to do but he probably won't even see the field until after the first 4 games, or longer. Seeing how quickly some guys like Dusty and Rex got thrown under the bus when injured it's odd so many would have such high hopes for Jones. IF both guys work out to what we believe is their full potential then there's less of a need for a guy like Wolfe. Nonetheless, I still like having a guy with his skills on the team and we have the added benefit of making AP a special teams player first but still there as a backup RB if the need arises.

Flea beat me to it but I too am a big fan of Peanut. This is a guy who has been treated very poorly by fans in years past but he just keeps on working hard and has made a lot of big plays for us. He's tough against the run and pretty good in coverage. Last year at Green Bay he single handedly kept us in that game forcing two fumbles. Plus he's a good gunner on punt coverage. He's not an elite cover corner rather just a lunch pail type of guy who you like having on your team.
-
Who is saying Wolfe is a great RB? The only points I see here are 1) that he shouldn't be on the team and 2) the other side, of which I am part of, saying he has the ability to contribute to the offense in certain situations mainly 3rd and long.
-
Of course that was tongue in cheek. I was slamming Moose throughout the second half of last year and felt he should have been benched. After the Panthers signed him in the offseason I read some article stating what a great pickup he was and how he was a really good WR. His problem in Chicago was that we didn't know how to properly utilize a receiver with his talent. Apparently the Panthers know what to do with a WR who drops easy passes, can't run fast, and can't come out of his cuts fast. I look forward to playing against him.

I thought Quinn was drafted 22 or something like that? Why is his draft value going up while he sits on an NFL bench? I think he could be had for at worst a late 1st Rd pick but I'd be willing to be they'd clear his cap hit for a mid-2nd Rd pick plus a late pick on day 2.
