  1. I've never seen Green drop to 48. He seems like a solid late 1st/early 2nd Rd prospect. Given the lack of FA attention to the OT position I have to believe there is some level of comfort with our existing players holding the line there if needed. That doesn't mean it won't get addressed either late here in FA or in the draft but considering Poles was aggressive on 3-tech and OC I have to think he viewed them as critical needs worth addressing aggressively.
  2. I'd be happy with this. What little I can see of Kendrick he doesn't appear to be a 1st Rd talent but regardless at 186 I'm ok if we take a chance. Based on draft profiles it appears he's a better fit for a zone heavy scheme vs. man since he struggles with deep speed but his quickness is a plus. I suspect a young GM with such a heavy rebuild is likely to stay away from big character risks in his first draft.
  3. The way this fell it was an odd day to draft at PFN but it was time to build the trenches: 39. Devonte Wyatt. DT Georgia. (With him and Kenyon Green on the board it was a tough decision but Wyatt generally has higher grades and it's much easier to find good interior Oline prospects later than a 3-tech) 48. Kenyon Green. OG Texas A&M. (he's still available? Thank you!) 71. Christian Watson. WR North Dakota State. ( I definitely don't see this happening but if it did, this would be the moment the title of this thread would occur) 148. Cameron Jurgens. OC Nebraska. (1 to 2 years to take over at C from Patrick) 150. John Ridgeway. DT Arkansas (Akiem Hicks style player. I still expect to see Quinn traded for either 1st Rd pick or multiple later rd picks BUT if we still have him our Dline would be good with Wyatt and Ridgeway in the rotation) 186. Kellen Diesch. OT Arizona State. (needs work on his technique but has the tools desired for the new offense. At worst becomes a backup swing OT but you always need one of those and at this point in the draft that's reasonable value. Gives us a year to assess his upside as a starter. Also means we stay with Jenkins at LT and Borom at RT but I suspect we would sign a FA LT. If we do sign one, we might see a trade of Whitehair and put Green at LG with Borom at RG. Otherwise Borom would be backup IOL and IMO that's a good option compared to where we've been in years past.).
  4. I like your list except for Tolbert. He seems a bit pedestrian to me. Playing against lesser competition I often see DBs in stride with him down the field. Tolbert will make the receiving room better than what we had last year but In the end I don't see much difference between him and Dazz. I like Moore too but we have Pringle who is likely to be our slot WR. However, Pringle is on a 1yr deal and if he plays well just re-sign him and keep Moore for depth and Getsy hopefully is better at finding ways to get the ball to different WRs than Nagy was. If we go 4 wide having Moore and Pringle zig zagging around the middle of the field is a nice option. With what little knowledge I have I've tried to focus on someone who can handle the X spot for us. Based on some scouting reports that might even be a stretch for Pickens. With some time to develop I think he'll be able to handle it. I like Doubs on day 3 but he'll need time to develop. edit: Looking back at Dazz coming out Tolbert definitely has the edge.
  5. I really like George Pickens. Like everyone else, I have quite a few WRs I like in this draft. Yet in terms of the ability to go get the ball, where ever it is, I don't think there is a more QB friendly receiver in this draft. He has quick hands and despite tight coverage it's usually one touch and done. I know he's got some learning to do on his routes but that's why we pay our coaches a lot of money. He also doesn't have elite athleticism, at least as he ran at the combine which brings him down a notch from other WRs. He's already visited with the Chiefs and Packers so it seems interest in him is building, perhaps even toward late 1st early 2nd Rd. A lot of what he does on these catches you can't coach. Yes it's highlights but go watch Olave, Williamson, Wilson, London, Watson, Pierce, etc. and you won't see a lot of this stuff at the catch point. I need a doctor to tell me his medical checks are all good.
  6. Essentially we replaced Iggy or one of the other backup LB as a special teamer.
  7. Then we still need more competition at NB.
  8. Here's some film breakdown on Pierce against ND and Alabama.
  9. I think I prefer Cruikshank over Young. He seems to be more athletic but we have two experienced NB DBs on 1yr deals fighting for a starting role and new contract. Let's see what happens. Griffin seems like a good depth player. 1yr $2.26mil seems like a lot for a guy with 27 rec last year but Poles clearly is willing to pay more for his depth pieces this year so he more flexibility next year. He just waited until 3rd tier in FA to do that.
  10. On most of my mocks lately I've been going with some combination of OT/WR/OG (sometimes a 3-tech DT falls to us) with the order being determined by best available at each pick. I prefer that over using 2 of 3 day 2 picks on WR. If we add another rookie WR I prefer to use a late day 3 pick to fill out the room or else a cheap FA vet who is already proven good on special teams.

    Mock Drafts

Playing around at PFN ended up with this after one trade back at 39. I'd be happy with this result. 44.Devonte Wyatt DT Georgia 48.Sean Rhyan OG UCLA 75.John Metchie III WR Alabama 99.Nicholas Petit-Frere OT Ohio State 148.Alontae Taylor CB Tennessee 150.Tyquan Thornton WR Baylor 206. Mike Rose LB Iowa State

    All Bama Draft

I agree that Mathis doesn’t fit the new scheme. I feel the same about Armour-Davis. Metchie in the 3rd I like a lot. Robison is too talented to last until the 5th Rd.

    Mock Drafts

I tend to think teams with hopes of a Superbowl will be choosing among the better route running WRs in Rd 1 especially those who played against the best talent in CFB. Watson has the physical tools to be a WR1 but he has work to do to get there. He was a man among boys at his level. Depending on specific needs I expect to see them covet guys like Williamson, Olave, and Wilson followed by Burks even if it means someone drafting up to get their guy. I wouldn't even be surprised to see KC draft Skyy Moore (ahead of Watson) to replace Tyreek Hill. He showed the route running ability at the combine and he has the quickness to work in a similar fashion to what Hill did for them on intermediate routes. Drake London is ranked mid-1st but I don't see him in the same group as others do. However he's still played against a higher level of competition than Watson making his game is easier to project in the first year.
  14. Looks like Jesper Horsted is back. Not that he was going anywhere unless we didn't want him. So I'll assume that Poles and Eberflus can see that all he does is catch TDs. https://twitter.com/sean_hammond/status/1511072492164636675?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1511072492164636675|twgr^|twcon^s1_&ref_url=

    Mock Drafts

I don't think we'll double up on WRs on day 2. Maybe he adds a 5th WR on day 3. I think Poles feels Pringle is a starter 2/3 type WR, Mooney is a definite 2nd WR. He's got Dazz as developmental 4th WR and IMO he showed enough athleticism to know he belongs on the field in the NFL. I'd like to see one more vet WR added before the draft to fill in that last role 4/5th WR to compete with Dazz. Then bring in one early in the draft. There are still rumors the Bears have interest in D.K. Metcalf. I can't see us giving up draft picks for him but we have the cap space next year for that new contract and adding him changes a lot. He'd be better than any 2nd Rd pick we could add.
  16. As much as I like the safety options in Rd 2 I think drafting a 3-tech is much more likely than a safety. I prefer this style defense when it has great pass rush and the DBs can just focus on what is in front of them knowing the ball is coming out on schedule with the routes.
  17. As long as the coach knows what he is doing this is good. Pace built the roster for Nagy to a fault and didn't do a good job holding his HC accountable. IIRC the TE from Philly in year 1, CPat who was used on runs up the middle in the redzone, Cohen new deal, etc.).
  18. Agreed. When everyone gets back to work Monday we'll be just 3 weeks out from the draft. Agents know teams are going to be focused on the draft prep from now on so I imagine they were hanging out around owners meeting hoping to get some traction on their remaining FAs. And the agents will be able to come back to their clients and tell them they were shopped around and they'll have to understand this $$ is your value and nobody is willing to pay you $$$$ anymore. I expect Poles will close some deals quickly to fill out the rest of the roster.
  19. https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/gm-report/bears-secondary-solutions-already-might-be-in-place?utm_source=reddit.com Interesting article on how Eberflus's scheme could improve the performance of our existing DBs. I agree that a Cover 2 style fits Vildor much better than having him try to match up with a receiver down the field. He's pretty quick to diagnose and close on plays when he's looking forward. He's lost when his back is to the ball. I'm not so sure about Shelley as he's just slow to diagnose things but if you figure Cruikshank is the likely starter there it appears that will be improved. Graham showed enough IMO to be expected to compete for a starting role and should be ahead of Vildor. Add another CB late in the draft. At safety though I definitely think we need to add a starter. Lewis Cine would be a great pick but I recognize we should fix the Dline first because regardless of DB skills this scheme will get exposed later in a play. This applies to the Dline and we don't have much there right now. "It's an upfield, pressure defense No. 1," he said shortly after his first press conference as coach. "You can create a lot of takeaways, you can create a lot of negative plays for the offense." I'm not saying this would fix the DB issues just that it could likely be something the HC and GM prefer to focus on next year.
  20. Funny but true. If that's all you really want out of our CB you can find that later in the draft.
  21. I think it's Jenkins athleticism that makes up for his lack of length (short arms). His hand quickness is good enough that if he gets beat initially he can counter and get their hands off him and get his back where they need to be. These days I'm not so sure about the old ways of LT/RT. Best pass rushers used to be coming at QB's blind side yet Von Miller has made a fortune, and a Superbowl MVP, getting past RTs. Maybe it depends how a team wants to run its offense, and maybe how the well the individual player does on either side. IMO if you have at least one OT good enough to leave on an island you're in a good place because the OC, QB, and the rest of the Oline should be able to figure out the rest especially if the interior is solid.
  22. If he wanted a place where he could likely start or at least get significant playing time for a year and then move on to a bigger better contract he found it.
  23. Different positions with AQM at DE and Ogun would have been our 3-tech. That interior position remains Poles biggest attempt in FA so far. Justin Jones was signed afterward but he's really just a backup rotational player. He's had good talent around him even in college and never really stood out. DT will have more bodies added soon but if Poles is serious about adding a good 3-tech pass rusher it will have to come via the draft. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/justin-jones/32004a4f-4e51-8335-7d6a-e6b7ff2e09ec
  24. I like the way you said it. While I understand Eberflus shouldn’t be criticizing a player publicly his comments on Jackson and his comments about the type of players he wants don’t sync. So he gets a chance but it’s a realistic possibility he doesn’t make it out of training camp with the Bears.
  25. That’s pure BS. Just a way of saying we can’t afford to cut him from that big contract. I hope he can get him to return to his 2nd year performance but Iif he doesn’t wake up after all the changes this offseason then he’s lost his passion for the game. I still like Lewis Cine.
