The offseason will be fun, stick around. Trestman and Emery definitely needed to go. After years of Angelo drafts, I just want to see a lot better drafts. Cutler needs gone too clean the slate. He was a hindrance to both Emery and Trestman, but they cost themselves their jobs. I could say Briggs or Conte need to also, but QB is the one position on the team that effects wins the most. It takes time to find the right one. The process needs to start now with the new regime.

Cutler's played almost 120 games now. He's won half, lost half. When he's won, he's had a 100 QB rating and 3 to 1 TD: INT ratio. That's pretty awesome. In losses, his QB rating is 70.9 with 65 TDs and 90 INTs. That just sucks. That's too big of a sample size and difference in play to try again. There's just too many things that need fixed, no matter the coach. It's too late to fix too.

WB Jason If you give him a year, you give him 2. 10 million is guaranteed for 2016 in March 12th. I really hope for a trade, but that can't happen until March 10th.

Yea, I know, but he is supposedly meeting with Oakland. I wasn't even one touting the hire Harbaugh flag, but I think it would be a bold move just trying to get him. Of course they won't, but it would show the desire to get it right this time.
-
Hopefully we won't hear from him today, because he is on a plane to San Fransisco. Not likely, but would be bold of George to try. Oakland is trying their shot at Harbaugh this morning. http://fansided.com/2014/12/29/oakland-rai...w-jim-harbaugh/

Way to go George McCaskey!! It's nice to feel like the owners finally get it, and not dragging it out like with Lovie.

Whoever it is, it will be fun to watch the reaction with the NFL Draft in Chicago this year.

There's the 7th pick. Brady Quinn was hard to sit through.

DAMN IT TRESTMAN!!! DON"T GO FOR IT ON 4th, play to lose!!

There's talk of the Bears possibly bringing in Chis Ballard as GM. That's a disaster waiting to happen. 10 years under Angelo, and took Phil Emery's Job when he was hired here.

I was listening to the Score one day a while back, and they were talking about Cutler. Normally, I don't agree with their opinions on most things, but one mentioned something a Scout once told him. When a QB is the main focus on a non-talented team in highschool and college, they tend to pick up a lot of bad habits and mechanics. They tried to avoid QB's like that in the draft, because it's hard to break the habits for so long. I wouldn't say Cutler isn't intelligent enough or lazy. He's been how he's been playing for 15 years or more. It's just something too hard to change. I think he's trying. Trestman and other's said it looks good in practice, it just doesn't carry over to the field.

I could careless about Philips. My main problems with him were hiring a generic search firm to hire a GM and some of the stuff in the Lovie era. Someone competent does need to be over the GM to evaluate if they are doing a good job. I have no problem with Phillips on the team. I completely disagree with you on Emery. I wasn't impressed with his resume when he was hired. He hired Tucker. You have a much more positive spin on his draft picks than I do. I like Alshon and Long, but I think you need more than a Number 2 WR and a Guard in your three drafts. Mills really isn't a player you want staring and Bostic just isn't that good so far imho. I would go on, but I got the flu and it's pointless to argue. Tomorrow, we'll see what happens. I have a lot of reason I don't like Emery, and yes Cutler's contract is one of them. He seems in over his head. It will be fun to see where the search goes.
-
Agreed, and he brings good leadership the teams needs right now, plus he can play guard if there's an injury. I just hope they really make it a competition for his spot.
-
I agree, you can't win with Cutler. I also really liked Trestman. There's only 2 reasons I want him gone. It will possibly lead to Emery gone. Emery so far has looked bad at his player evaluation, coaching evaluation. The other reason comes from the last few weeks. That's a locker room divided. Gould's willingness to be open with how he felt showed that. There's no coming back from that for Trestman. A change needs made to bring the team back together.

Honestly, I can't see a team willing to be on the hook for 20+ million dollars over 2 years, unless they really wanted him. It's not the NBA. I don't think the Bears will haul in a first rounder or anything, but I don't think they will need to give anything up either. The reports have to be wrong, but then again I've been wrong many times. Another pro is that he has a short term memory. While at times his TO happen in bunches, I think it's just his play that day. It's not that he lets the bad plays get to him the way Cousins did this year.

I should have titled this different. I was wanting to know what positive aspects Cutler has that warrants keeping him, not debate all the other things. I was trying to keep it specific. The replacement is irrelevant to what Cutler does on the field. A comparison is not just would not just be the team with Cutler v. Jake Locker(or whatever QB). It's Cutler v. Locker (or whatever QB.) + the rookie QB that needs brought in + the money left over that could be spent on a young safety like Devin McCourty or someone to shore up another spot. If Cutler comes back, there will be 10 million guaranteed for 2016, and he will be a lot harder to unload after one more year. Basically, if Cutler is here this year, he is here 2 years. I think the Bears can trade Cutler and be free of his contract with out a draft pick. That whole concept of giving up a high pick is ridiculous. Either a team will want him or not, and someone will. The Bears may not get a high pick, they may have to eat some of the money, but they won't have to give up a higher pick than they get. In this thread, I just wanted to know specifically what Cutler brings to the field on Sundays. All the rest is so broad, and will be covered in a million other threads each time something new is leaked.

Two Pro Bowls in his first two years. Forte got snubbed, he's third in the league in total yards and has 10 TDs.

We'll have discussions for years whether Cutler is retained or replaced on the other subjects. We've already had them a million times using stats, comparisons to other players, debating on if it's other peoples fault, and potential. I left out the strong arm, because we all know that. In my mind, it falls under the label of potential. We've seen both positive and negative results due to his arm and dependency on it. My aim is to streamline the conversation to Cutler's positive qualities seen on the field. Qualities that are tangible like the quick release that Mongo mentions, and others intangibles like making other players better if it applied. I'm not asking this to criticize peoples opinions or make counterpoints.

Thanks, that was what I was asking for. While I disagree with some to different extents, he has definitely shown creativity outside the pocket, toughness, and mobility. Most likely I have, he's been playing for 9 years. I'm really just wondering what positive traits people see in him on the field. Mongo said 3 I agree with. The negatives have been pointed out a million times. I've never really seen it discussed what made him stand out without in potential, a strong arm, or skewed stats being envoked. It seemed like a fitting topic and a good read to me. Maybe, I feel a little better if he is retained.

Some people are ready to see Cutler back next year. That's fine, everyone is welcome to their own opinion. I just want to understand how you come to this conclusion. Convince me on why Jay Cutler should be the Chicago Bears QB in 2015. I don't want stats. I don't want contract details. I don't want physical traits like a strong arm. I don't care about relationships with players. I don't want to hear about quarterback carousels or potential replacements. I want to know where he excels to you. What are the positive aspects you see in Jay Cutler's play? What, in your eyes, does he do on the field that separates him from average quarterback? What actual parts of his on field play makes you think that he is the guy? Help me understand where you are coming from. I'm talking along the lines of ball placement, reading defense, making progressions, mechanics, decision making, being clutch and so on.

He passed the protocols and didn't show symptoms till later that night.

Readin defenseses, progressing though reads and so on Clausen looked better today. If Clausend looked better, than it;s glaring faults in Cutler. The run plays. Cutler got his audible ability taken away for one game, because he kept checking to the wrong play earlier in the year. THey would often call a play that would be run or pass, and the call would be based on the d. Cutler ran the D wrong al year, so you can't say they called a different game nand ran more, until you know if those were the calls, clausen let those plays develop or the coaches wanted a different play.

Lovie didn't have the history of Austin when he was brought in. Named coackes are good for rebuilding, but most coaches don't succeed on their second or third run. Arians is the coach ppl name that should have beern brought in over Trestman. He was successful with one of the best QBs in the league in Indy Austin was also an interm coach and went 2-1 when he was with a team that fired their coach before. 3 Super Bowl experience as a position coach and turned around a D that we have seen break down when it matters. Detriots O sucks, their D is why they were in the playoffs and why he is a great canidate.
