Lol, you really wanted Otah last year?
-
It's a ridiculous amount of pay for his talent level. This money last your could have almost kept Berrian. Hell, it's only a few million a year less then what a stud OL like Faneca got from the Jets.
-
Well they have overspent on WR on Moss before, but as you said they neglected the line, and actually QB at that point. Looking at the state of the Raiders, I can't give them too much hell tho. Who would really want to play there right now? He's their best player and they retained them. I am a little worried about how this will screw up the market tho. O honestly find paying lechler the money they paid him more disturbing. He go t paid pretty damn good money for a punter, crazy asss money. I expected old dude to get about 10 mill a yaar atleast on the open market. Considering who they ar enow, it's not too bad to me for them to pay him that much to bring him back.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/around_th...?urn=nfl,142741 Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:19 pm EST Execs taken aback by Asomugha, Lechler deals By Jason Cole INDIANAPOLIS – Reaction was swift and ugly Thursday to the deals the Oakland Raiders gave CB Nnamdi Asomugha and punter Shane Lechler over the past two days. "How many different ways can you say, 'What were they thinking?' " a team executive who declined to be identified said after being told the terms of Asomugha's three-year, $45 million contract. "Insanity, stupidity, whatever you want to attach to it. Yeah, the kid is the best cornerback in the league. They paid for quality. I'll give them that. But that deal wrecks the league. Absolutely wrecks it. … I'm sure Al doesn't care, but it's deals like that that change the league for the worse." Asomugha (pictured) is guaranteed $28.5 million over the first two years of the deal and the Raiders will have to decide by the fifth day of the league year in 2011 whether to pick up the third season of the deal. If they do, the final year is guaranteed. If not, Asomugha can't be franchised (nor can the Raiders franchise him even if he plays out all three years on the contract), making him an unrestricted free agent at either age 29 or 30. Combined with the $9.7 million Asomugha made last season as a franchise player for Oakland, he stands to make approximately $55 million in a four-year stretch. "And still hit free agency at the right time for one more big contract, assuming he's healthy," a second team executive said, shaking his head. The fear among the executives is that the Asomugha deal will have a ripple effect on the rest of the league. Specifically, Tennessee DT Albert Haynesworth is likely to get a contract that exceeds previous deals for defensive linemen such as Jared Allen and Dwight Freeney. "You can argue that Haynesworth is a defensive tackle or that he's a bad guy," said a third team executive. "But if a cornerback gets what the Raiders just paid, a defensive tackle like Haynesworth is going to get a serious pay day as well." Similarly, Lechler's deal more than doubled the previous high average for a punter. His four-year, $16 million deal includes $9 million guaranteed, according to sources close to the negotiations. The $4 million average per season exceeds the previous high of $1.8 million. Photo courtesy of US Presswire Related: Jared Allen, Albert Haynesworth

Yea, that's nice and all they are doing that. I still think the team is still cheap tho. This year, after all the signings were made, the Bears picked up the one dude, that having him may have lead to a 10 million extra on next year. That tells me, the Bears still had 10 million in cap space when he was signed. Instead of them going after the big money FA olinemen or tagging Berrian earlier in the year, they were just not going to spend that money, and am I wrong that that money won't carry over to this year cuz it was unlikely to be earned.
-
Give me the possession receiver that can make the tough catch when you need him.
-
He really didn't have a much better year, stat wise, then Orton. Considering the talent around him, I wouldn't do it. I think he just got a lot of press because he didn't blow it when taking over for Tom Brady.
-
While I would love to change scheme, I'm not sure it would change. Rivera wasn't able to change the scheme while he was here. He sure ran things different though. I remember around the Pittsburgh game that year, Hub said that Lovie was taking more control of the defense. The defense started to get worse too. While an influence from outside of this scheme is needed, I'm not sure the scheme will ever change.

Look at the team now 7 years into his being here. Can you honestly say that this team is as good as what he inherited from Hatley in 2001? The Offense is a wreck. Other then TE and RB, it needs a player at every position. He just now realized that QB is the most position on the team. This is a guy that brought in players like Kordell Stewart and Chris Chandler, then passing on guys like Brees and turning away Warner because he wouldn't let him compete for starter. This group of WR's doesn't have a single number 2, yet alone 1. The offensive line all needs replacements here other then maybe Williams who was drafted with a chronic back injury. Kreutz, he inherited, might not need replaced but needs his replacement in training here. Defensively, while more talented then the O, it has many holes that need filled. He continually tries to find safties but the only real one he has on the team is Brown. CB's, while full of Depth, still questionable at it's starters. Not to mention a wasted 3rd round pick on Manning Jr. a couple years ago and bringing in a guy like Archueletta with a big paycheck. Briggs was a major hit at LB, inherited Urlacher, average talent other at LB. Plus, wasted picks in Okwo and Williams. The Defensiveline has been under productive. Ogun never lived up to the billing, there's an overhyped but quality player in harris, brown is good but not a special talent and not much else there but really good backups. Yes, I think he has had a below average record at bringing in talent, especially on the offensive side, at times neglecting key positions. Defensively he's had one find that was remarkable in Briggs and the rest of his track record is average or below.

I have nothing wrong with him being a defensive line coach. It's the possibility of him as a DC which some here have mentioned that I do not like or making room for his family so he will come here. JA didn't draft anyone in TB, he was a scout. I wouldn't mind JA as a defensive scout , but so far I would consider him a failure at GM.
-
I forgot to ad ja to the list overated minds from Tampa.
-
its hard for me to believe the Lions had the worst talent level of everyteam since going to the 16 game schedule. He's a position coach that got in over his head as a head coach, no reason to think he wouldn't be in over his head as Defensive Coordinator that had to call plays, which he's never done. IMO, the coaches from Tampa all have been over valued. They have been considered Great Defensive Minds, but with Marineli's failure, Bablich's failure, and personally I feel Lovie's failure, they all have not did well when put in the position. That defense was all Monte Kiffin and Tony Dungy.
-
That money could have been Faneca (sp.) or Berrian back last season(atleast in franchise tag form).
-
Sad thing is, considering how well McBride did the year before this, and Graham this year, I'm not sure he even deserved to be fired. He seemed to do a good job of developing people.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3804004 Jones: Favre's play warranted benching ESPN.com news services Updated: January 1, 2009, 4:27 PM ET * Comment * Email * Print Thomas Jones Has Harsh Words For Brett Favre Team owner Woody Johnson has stated clearly that he wants Brett Favre to be the New York Jets' quarterback next season, but some players seem to be bristling at the thought. Days after the Jets' 1-4 finish left them out of the playoffs and helped trigger Eric Mangini's firing as coach, running back Thomas Jones blasted Favre's final-game performance and seemed to suggest the QB's play -- nine interceptions and only two touchdown passes in the final five games -- called for his benching. "We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win," Jones said in an interview Tuesday with New York Hot 97 FM. Favre threw three interceptions in the Jets' season-ending 24-17 loss to Miami that clinched the AFC East for the Dolphins. "The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality," Jones told the radio station. "If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality. ... I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it. Reviewing Favre vs. Rodgers Wins say Brett Favre. Stats say Aaron Rodgers. Neither made the playoffs. So who had the better year? Depends on how you measure it, Gene Wojciechowski writes. Column "If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game," Jones told Hot 97 FM. "You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it's just not [fair]." Many believed the Jets were built to win now. They traded for Favre in August, spent $140 million on personnel moves last offseason, started 8-3 after knocking off New England and then-unbeaten Tennessee, then watched it all unravel. But a lot of the blame has landed at Favre's feet. Favre Favre Thomas Jones Jones "In this league, when you're the head coach or the quarterback and things don't go well, you're going to get a lot of the blame," safety Kerry Rhodes said earlier this week, adding that if Favre chooses to commit to the Jets for his 19th NFL season, he's got to be all in. "If he's dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way ... and be here when we're here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us ... then I'm fine with it," Rhodes said. "But don't come back if it's going to be half-hearted or he doesn't want to put the time in with us." Miami Dolphins New York Jets NFL.com Video Watch highlights from the Miami Dolphins' 24-17 win over the New York Jets. A veteran Jets player, quoted anonymously by Newsday, described Favre as a "distant" teammate who, when at the Jets' practice facility, spent his down time away from teammates in an office specially designated for him. "There was a lot of resentment in the room about him. He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone," the player told Newsday. Favre played hurt in the final weeks of the season, and he has been told by doctors that pain in his right shoulder is from a torn biceps tendon and some calcification in the area, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder. The sources said Favre would need nothing more than arthroscopic surgery to repair the injury, but that he might be able to avoid the procedure altogether even if he decides to play in 2009. A source told Werder that Favre is expected to deliberate for several weeks, perhaps to allow New York time to hire Mangini's successor.

I see nothing wrong with the post. There is a decent chance he'll become a FA if the Dolphins are sold, he can opt out his contract and get paid the rest of it which is a decent sum. I agree Chicago probably won't look at him. That's more wrong with the Bears owners then it is with his posting the idea tho.
-
He's seemed to do decent work with Graham and McBride and so on. He wouldn't have been my first firing for sure. I'm not sure I like the move at all.
-
Agreed, and that's someone that's not high on JA at all. I think only NFO here wanted a guy in that draft that turned out that woulda been worth the pick at the time. There's a lot more picks I have problems with, just none that high. The main things that bother me is the state of many of the positions on the team after his tenure here.
-
This is the first time I can remember JA talking this way about QB. It would have had me pumped a few years ago. It's like it's finally clicked with him. With his state of mind in this interview, it really makes me wonder if he is going to get into a bidding war over Cassell. I really can't see another QB available this offseason that can fix the position. Plus, it would keep Minny from getting something they desperately needs. "I know there's going to be a lot of talk about a No. 1 receiver. Guys, it starts with the quarterback. It's all about the quarterback. You don't win because of wide receivers." This line above is what sort of bothers me. It has me scared that he is going to try get a way too late band aid type player like he did with Lloyd last year. I hope he's not jaded over adding Moose and it failing.

Alot of good questions there. On the defense as a whole, I have to think it is coaching and scheme. The Bears had one of the dominant defenses in the league a couple years ago. They still have basically the same exact starters except for a couple positions. I can't imagine that Ian Scott/Tank Johnson, Manning Jr. in at Nickel and Chris Harris's losses would have been major factors in it's decline. The core of the starters are still pretty young and other then Brown(due to yearly season injuries) clan blame age for a major decline. They just aren't that old. I also think the team has better depth then they had then. Then again, Ron Rivera may have just been that good of coach and had this team playing better then they are. Since he took over as DC i when the Chargers were 3-5, the team won 5 of their next 8 to win their division and make the play offs.

Living in Ohio, I keep an eye on the Bengals, and I really think he is worth it. Chad Johnson was non-existant this year whether it be through injuries, suspensions, or just doing nothing in the games. Carson Palmer was hurting all year, and their running game really sucked. He still managed to put up a pretty nice season I may be wrong, but I think last year when their team was healthier he was the leading receiver in the league. He's the one receiver out of all the ones available that I think will be worth the money. Guys like Boldin, CJ, Holt and so on my have more game breaking potential, but considering what he did this year I think he will be the least likely to disappoint.

Well, to address this I'm going to look at a couple of the the best QB's in recent history in the league. I am in no way putting Orton on par with either. I want to make that perfectly clear before I start. If you look back at 2006, the patriots had one of the worst receiving corps since Brady had been there. It was pretty comparable to what the Bears have at WR now. His numbers were down to a respectable 220 yards a game. He had the line that year but not the receivers. The next year they went and got Moss and Welker. Once he got both, he went crazy. At the beginning of this year, Peyton Manning's Colts were missing a 3/5ths of his offensive line. He had the receivers, but struggled early with a depleted line comparable to the Bears. He started out the year very poorly. If you look at the Bears, you have probably one of the worst receiving corps in the league. The Offensive line's starters are below par for the league. Behind that there is not much depth or young guys in training for their positions. Players like Tait and Kruetz are aging and a few other starters would probably be best as back ups. Drafting a young guy and giving him a band aided OL and receivers that can't catch or get open isn't solving anything. Not many QB's that are drafted high and not given a decent supporting cast ever turn out. It makes me think of the upstart Texans with Carr, Couch with the Browns, or Alex Smith with San Fran. If a young guy is thrown out there with no surrounding talent, it can ruin their careers. I'd like to see the Bears get this line built for the future, so I'm sold on OL in the draft early and often. If a WR they really feel can be special falls to us at one, then so be it. It's a massive need too. A young QB drafted early, in this media environment with high expectations and no surrounding talent will just be eaten alive. I'm not big for Defensive Back early either. It's not easy to argue that the need isn't there when your team has the 30th ranked pass defense this year. The offense has just been neglected and stongly lacking in talent compared to defense, so it takes a higher priority to me.

Off the field, i meant on the sidelines during the game. They were completely out of it. They seemed to not care.

What was "embarrassing" to me was the effort and the attitude on and off the field. It was embarrassing to me to be a fan of a team that had a chance to be in the playoffs. Here I am a faithful fan of many years of a team that has a chance to do something special and they just didn't come to play. I can't say anyone looked or played like they wanted it. The guys on the bench were staying off in the daze and completely not into the game every time they were shown on camera. If they played their hearts out and lost I would be proud to be a fan. Instead they gave nothing and it's embarrassing.
