Keep telling yourself that BUD. You might be the only one who believes Vasher is a starter on this team. His poor play and injury have taken care of that. Write it down, Graham will be the starter and Vasher will be a benchwarmer.
-
Vasher? Are you nuts? Hell, he's losing his job if he hasn't already to Graham.
-
Yep, Graham stood AP up and Brown could not finish him off.

I'd like to see the following minor changes: 1. Nick Roach in for HH. Hillenmeyer has been good for us but his coverage skills suck and Roach is ready and will be better. 2. Move Harris to DE. He can't be ANY worse than Ogun is so we have nothing to lose. We certainly haven't lost anything with him not playing so the move might be best for all concerned. If Ogun couldn't get his hands up, you'd never know he was playing. We have plenty of time for Harris to learn it. 3. We need a better run blocking scheme. I'm not even sure there's an anbswer but I think teams have been stacking the box against us and now that they see orton can beat them, maybe that will ease up but we need to work on our running game. 4. Fix the blitz. Whatever we've been doing is either telegraphed or just plain obvious. We need to disguise it better. 5. Get Lloyd healthy. He's gonna be Orton's ticket to the pro bowl if we can get him and keep him on the field. 6. Find Politti and bring him back. Oh, and launch McKie. I don't know who he has compromising pics of but he needs to go. That's all I'd like to see.

The paper said there were those at Halas Hall who thought he should have played last week. Texas wimp.

I'll preface this by saying somebody is getting fired at the end of this season. If it isn't Lovie, it's Babich. Should Lovie decide to step up and refuse to fire babich, then he most likely will be gone as well. But make no mistake, this defense is moving backwards so somebody is gone. Now, given that scenario, this team might find itself changing schemes and if it does, we need to change personnel. Given that, we need to make trades. Harris and Urlacher make the most sense. You can say what you want regarding injuries but Tommie Harris is one of the biggest con men to arrive in Chicago since Curtis Enis. He plays only when he wants to play. As far as Urlacher is concerned, he's not outplaying his contract anymore. He's not having a bad year but frankly, this football team needs to move forward and Urlacher still has trade value and a fairly cap friendly contract. The time is right to make a trade. Our offense is finally starting to happen and Angelo can correct alot of mistakes with a couple more 1st rd picks. Come one, do you really think this team is going to the SB this year or next based on what we're seeing? Hell no. This defense needs a Premier Safety..BADLY. We need a Elite DE..BADLY. No matter what scheme we play, these are key. Those two positions would would fix this defense immediately. Nick Roach looks to be a guy who has great instincts, good speed and the ability to learn the MLB position and do well in this scheme or any other scheme. Even if we had to replace Hillenmeyer at some point, we have Jamal Williams so our LB group is fine. My concern right now is this defense is just not working. They can either sell their souls to stop the run or sell their souls to stop the pass. For whatever reason, they can't do both.
-
If we got a #1 for Urlacher, a 1 and a 3 for Harris, we could possibly parlay those picks into a 1st, 2 2nds, 2 3rds. That gives us, 2 1sts, 3 2nds, 3 3rds, hell, stop right there, That's our DE OT OG C and Safety, WR and CB and we haven't even touched the 4th round yet. Couple that with the fact that we still have Dusty, Izzy, Adams and Marcus and we are in great shape.
-
This is probably the most frustrating aspect of this defense. If anything based on what we have in the front four, i thought we'd be a quantum leap better than last year. So far our DEs look like they can't get penetration, Harris is invisible, Dusty, Izzy and Marcus are doing well but for whatever reason, there is just NO pressure. Is it because the QB is taking a 3 step drop? No, they have all day back there so it is either scheme or players. i gotta believe it's players. Nobody on this defense aside from the 3 guys I named and Briggs is living up to their contract. At least brown has 3 sacks but Wale looks slow and old. Personally, if it were me, i'd trade urlacher and harris and get as many picks as I could and invest in a Killer DE with one of the #1s. Then I would target safety and O line, starting with a center.

The book on Tommie harris coming out of OU was that he had a tendecy at times to loaf. Well Tommie, this is the NFL and I think you've seen the guys here are a couple cuts above the guys at OU so, you lazy prick, get your ass to work and earn that big paycheck you're getting. We're tired of hearing you talking the talk and not walking the walk.

So Westbrook might not play? Good, we'll only lose 38-3.

I blame the coaches. We may not have the most talented offense but I too saw the major change between the 1st and 2nd half from Orton. Turner FINALLY adjusted but why did he wait until the second half to do it? It's not that big a deal to put in the TEs. As far as the defense, how can you NOT blame both? I mean, we looked like worldbeaters the 1st 2 series and then we had our moments but the entire game, just like the past 2 games, we were getting murdered by that slant route. Now, if the CBs are playing as far off the line on as they are on their own accord, they need a swift kick in the nuts, if the coaches are forcing them to play that far off, they need a kick in the nuts. But the d line didn't even sniff Griese yesterday and he threw 67 times. Holy shit who do you blame that on? You gotta blame it on both. Surely our d line talent isn't that weak. I'm sure alot of it had to do with TB running max protect but you still have to cover the WR.

I think Wesson44 has a point. This offense does play not to lose, it's pretty obvious but the real problem with that thinking is that sooner or later, in this case sooner, it sends a message that we have no faith in our offense to win a game. Case in point, there were going to be about 54 seconds left on the clock last week at Carolina when they kicked a FG at the end of the first half. Now, knowing we could get decent field position with a good return, why didn't we call time out and let carolina kick the FG and try to score with about 50 seconds left? Because these coaches are scared of this offense. Hey our offense was moving the ball on the ground against this Carolina team early, they have no world beaters in their secondary. These guys were scared we would turn it over again so what do they do? Let the clock run down and take away an opportunity to score. Now, the guys I watch the games with were split. The younger guys who haven't watched this team very long said it was smart move since we were up. (Poor idealistic bastards, they haven't had the 40 plus years of experience watching that kind of offense from the Bears but stick around long enough and even you will start to change your mind about what makes sense and what doesn't.) That thinking only works with Dallas, GB, NE, Indy, SD or Philly but I challenge you to pose that scenario to ANY of those teams coaches and I guarantee you they would have called that timeout and at least tried to score. And, for those of you who will insist that the bears did the right thing based on the talent level of our offense, GET READY FOR ANOTHER 7-9 boys and enjoy it. We lost that game because our coaches will not allow this offense to open up and until that changes, we will continue to aspire to mediocrity.

Jesus, am I on the right board, Talk about ADD. We start a thread about hester and all of the sudden, the OC is or isn't a bum. Back to Hester. Stop assuming that we wouldn't have gotten incredible value by trading him because even if I was running the place, we would have gotten a ton in return. the Bears would have gotten plenty of value. Second, let's face it. This years Hester sucks compared to last years Hester. Plain and simple. We aren't paying him for last year. We are paying him for this year so by standards, he just ain't cuttin it. He looks dumber this year than any year i've watched him from that goofball saftey that wasn't called in preseason to the last 2 games. We have every right to be concerned about they guy. Hey, give him the benefit of the doubt now that he's injured but don't be so naive to think that now that he's got his money, he doesn't have anything to prove and it's being reflected in his play. The coaches need to keep an eye out for him. He still can't figure out where to line up on offense, he certainly hasn't been a factor in the offense and I know we sure paid him alot of money hoping he would develop into a top notch WR but so far...Zippo, Nada Zilch.
-
I think it's a fundamental flaw with this defense, They overpursue and they are trying to strip the ball and make something happen instead of just wrapping their man up. Sooner or later they will pay for that. That's exactly what happened yesterday. i think Stewart is a good back but there is no fuckin way he should have shreaded them in the 4th like he did. That was them not him.

OT: Vince Young Doesn't Want to Play Football
BigDaddy replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Just another freakin Texas headcase. Go home to mama, she'll take care of you and your millions. Seeing this kinda shit sure makes me respect Grossman ALOT more. I don't wanna see him on the field, but I repsect him alot more for how he is handling his shit. -
Yes, it appears that the defensive injuries that devastated this team last year have been resolved AND we have added some more depth. Bad running backs? Hell yes that's been fixed. Benson was a bum and a bust. Forte just ran for 123 yrds in his opener against a pretty good d line. Receivers bad?I didn't see anything spectacular out of Berrian Monday night. Moose is nothing but a drop waiting for a place to happen and his route running leaves alot to be desired. What I see in Hester or Lloyd are 2 guys that can take their place and perform better. Add in Davis and THEN look at our TE situation which is great and the new 2 TE sets we began to use and Hell yes our receiver situation is better. Maybe the o line wasn't as bad as it looked. If we remember correctly, Orton and Griese seemed to have no trouble stepping up into the pocket but the guy we had problems with was Rex. We saw that he still hasn't mastered the footwork this year. I think between he and Benson, they made the o line look atrocius. All im saying is, maybe they weren't that bad. I think that based on past performance by this very same defense and no, I don't mean it's ranking #5 in 06, I'm talking about it's ranking #1 in the NFL for much of that season untill Tommie went out and that finally caught up with us. I do think we have the best d line in football and the best depth and that will be the differnce maker for many games. I think we will be able to tell more Sunday if our o line has really been fixed. Carolina has a great defense too and if we can put up points against them, it's gonna be very difficult to argue that this team hasn't been fixed.
-
Yeah, I think AP has more of the oohs and aahs type skills but Forte looks very good and durable. I like our 1 2 punch with he and Jones.
-
Agreed. It's somewhat aggravating to see it working so well now knowing we should have been doing it all along. Hey, better late than never. But, and I say this with the highest of hopes, they ALL need to follow the Indy victory up with an equal game plan for Carolina. That front four could cause big problems but I think we can get alot of mismatches.
-
Yeah, I read where he and jared Allen were frustrated. LMAO... Well, at least he got his money so he can't cry too hard.
-
The scheme is only good if it is adjusted to the team we're playing. Like it was last night. If they don't scheme for Carolina, it's on the coaches. thats the difference between this team and what we did last year and before. We MUST scheme and tweak the coverage for each team we play. The Tampa 2 has been figured out. it's still a good coverage but it must be tweaked. Again, THAT falls to the coaches.
-
It had nothing to do with trusting or not trusting orton. He did a great job and what I think will happen more often is we will definitely get these big TEs of ours involved and that will open up ALL passing opportunities but our running game was doing great yesterday, why not try and run on 3rd and 5. It's a great way to set the season up because teams don't know what we'll do in those situations. But I noticed, the closer Orton gets to the endzone, the better he gets, which is a GREAT thing. i think he will only get better.
-
Jesus, Mary and Joseph dude, check yourself. I said I expected the playoffs this year and would accept NO FUCKIN EXCUSES. What does that tell you about what i think of the talent level? Just because I'm not crowning them champs I should apologize or eat crow? Get your head outta your ass and wake up. Get over yourself. I, No we, don't need lessons from you on how to be a proper fan.
-
OK, let's put it all in perspective. It's one game and we have 15 more. All they're gonna get from me is a weekly repreive. I said before the season and I'll say it again. If this team doesn't make the playoffs, Lovie and his crew should be fired. Yesterday's win only reinforces that we have the talent to get it done but we are going up against a defense who will bring more pressure but I don't think has as many horses as Indy and an offense that definitely doesn't have Indy's horses. Now, I know Indy was injured but it looked like all day they were in max protect so we were obviously befuddling them. So, if we fall asleep next week, we are back to bitching about babich Lovie and Turner. I will say this, so far so good. I think this team did what they and many others expected them to do. They also did what ten times as many did not expect. Those guys were just not paying attention. My expectations are the playoffs. Anything less is a failure and there is no reason for it. Period.
