  1. DB54 tries hard, and I appreciate the work he does. Other than LT, he's the only guy I've found who does the Chicago cap. However, several others and I have pointed out errors and provided proof, and 54 will stick stubbornly to his mistaken numbers. That's why you don't see many folks even bother arguing with him anymore - it's an exercise in futility. He's totally incapable of admitting he's wrong, or else he's just too damn old to comprehend what he reads sometimes. Either way, I don't trust his numbers this year. He had us under $1M on the cap for awhile when I know damn well Angelo wouldn't have cut himself that short on the "mad money" that's needed to be held in reserve for emergencies, etc. .
  2. His salary plus roster bonus is $2M this year. You'll have to decide how reasonable that is. The real problem comes next year when that amount jumps to $5M. Obviously the Bears aren't going to pay RMJ that much. So this year they shop him, hoping for any trade value at all, and they try find his replacement in case they get lucky. .
  3. Yep, with Williams and Olin hurt the O line looks really pathetic. If the pass protection doesn't improve dramatically when those two get on the field, Rex won't make three games before he's out with another injury. (yep, from what I'm seeing in TC Rex will be the starter) .
  4. Grice-Mullen is a long shot to make it in the NFL because he doesn't have the great speed coaches want in their receivers. Still, he was a lot of fun to watch playing for Hawaii! Once he had the ball, he had some juke moves that made defenders look really bad. LOL .
  5. Thanks for the report, Brad! I don't know how the idea that Lloyd has blazing speed ever got started with Bears fans. He's fast enough to burn a corner who's not paying attention, but he's never had Hester or Berrian kind of zip.
  6. I'm not talking about LT, who has always done a great cap sheet. This is some old fart on the official board, and he does some really stupid stuff with some of the numbers. Still, somehow when he gets done the bottom line is reasonably close. Lt knows who I'm talking about. LOL
  7. I think King's numbers are waaaaay too high. The amateur cap guy on the big board has the Bears under $4M left before Urlacher's deal. He isn't the sharpest crayon in the box, but his numbers usually are reasonably close. JMO .
  8. Why trade anybody or anything for him? The Raiders are going to be forced to release him before training camp, since teams can only have 80 players and Big Al now has a log jam at the RB position. Plus, that still sticks the Bears with his $4.7M salary this year. I've read the Bears are now under $4M in free cap space, so that would break the piggy bank.
  9. That looks like a KFFL ticker message. You can read the whole story HERE, and it's just Williamson speculating that Chicago might be interested. I don't see any chance that the Bears are going to trade for Jordan and pick up his current contract of $4.7M salary in '08 and $5M in '09. If they want him, they'll wait until he's released, but they aren't going offer him anything much above Vet minimum. JMO .
  10. Well, Kyle's just gonna have to be content holding the clipboard and working with the 2nd string. However, Rexy might slit his wrists after being demoted to the scout team.... .
  11. Once again the Bears are setting themselves up for an offensive disaster. Angelo stated that he was going to bring stability to the QB position. However, he made no effort to do so by keeping Grossman, Orton, cutting Griese, and bringing in a couple long shot UDFAs. The QB position is now weaker than it was last year. Angelo stated that he was going to create competition for Benson, not cut him. Drafting Forte would have accomplished that goal. It's understandable that Jerry was forced to rid the team of the negative publicity Ced suddenly created, but that weakened the half back depth back to exactly what it was 12 months ago. It damn sure leaves the position weaker than what it was in '06. If Forte is injured or doesn't excel in his rookie year, Peterson will have to carry the load again, and that will doom the ground game. JA cut Ruben but failed to replace him with a legitimate LG. Beekman isn't even competing for the spot, the Bears say they want St. Clair to remain at swing tackle, That leaves turnstile Metcalf as the anointed one. Guess what? He's going to get the QB killed, and he's too damn slow to pull on the ground attack. Defenses are going to have a field day attacking the Bears' left side this year!! All in all, Chicago's offense is in as much trouble now as it was last season, when it finished 26th in the league. AND, they go from the 2nd easiest schedule in '07 to 11th toughest in '08. Things look pretty bleak this year. .
  12. Smith can't afford to be picky if he wants to keep his QB healthy and get some production from the running game, Connor. If they aren't going to bring in an FA, St. Clair should be competing with Metcalf and let the one who sucks less have the spot. It's hard to believe Beekman is already crossed off the list. If Turner uses him correctly, I think Lloyd could be a good receiver for the Bears - at least by Chicago's low standards at that position. Ron needs to understand that Brandon hates getting hit. If he's asked to go in the middle where LBs and safties are going to nail him, he'll disappear from the game. He's a very poor blocker for the same reason. However, against wimpy corners he will make a lot of tough catches. .
  13. It would be nice if he and the team are ready to settle and move forward. Regardless, I'm just glad he's back!
  14. Here's a short clip of the audio: Glazer's Comments .
  15. John Clayton doesn't think any team will give Benson a call unless there's an injury or a team realizes its RBs all suck in training camp. I agree with that view because of all his injuries and lack both performance and dedication. I also think if/when somebody calls, it's likely to be a one-year, minimum salary offer. .
  16. Drunk boating, resisting arrest, speeding in a construction zone, running a red light while drunk driving - all in a month. Tag would have shrugged those things off, but I don't think Goodell will. He's gonna pull the trigger on Benson. Of course the team fine is speculation - that's why I said a "possible fine". There hasn't been enough time since Roger enacted the new policy for any of us to know when and how he's going to enforce it. I don't expect Benson to be cut for this either, LT. However, Virginia still has her way when she decides to get involved, and she's a little quirky. Nobody expected her to be offended by the Honey Bears, but she axed them because they weren't wholesome for the McCaskey name. If Benson's actions rub her the wrong way, he could be looking for a new job as soon as the team gets Forte under contract. We'll see.... .
  17. Goodell is going to suspend him, IMO. With his new policy of holding teams accountable for their players, Goodell is also likely to fine the Bears. The possible fine is enough to get Virgina and Mikey involved in what to do about Benson. I could see them cutting ties with the idiot. .
  18. The Giants didn't give the Chargers Philip Rivers, their '04 3rd round pick, and their '05 1st and 5th round picks for Eli (and give him a huge contract) so they could be a running team that can pass. They expected Manning to be a superstar QB who would light the field up like his brother. Also, they passed quite a bit more than they ran in '07. 544 pass attempts versus 469 runs. I consider them to be a passing team who runs. At the least they have a balanced offense. JMO .
  19. The above statements tell it all. Being the RB coach, I understand Spencer being partial to the ground game, and I understand the importance of being able to run the ball when the weather is terrible. Still, he and Smith still don't get it. In today's NFL, a passing team that can run the ball is much more likely to generate offensive points and win games than Bears' teams, where "the QB is the axle". In a given year there a maximum of only 3 or 4 games where the elements are so severe that the passing game can't be effective. Many times it's only 1 or 2. It's ridiculous to build a run-first team when it's only going to have an advantage 25% or less of the season. Until the team pulls it's butt into the 21 century; until it makes the QB the offensive wheel with the running game being the axle, there's little hope that the Bears will consistently challenge for the NFCN title. .
  20. If you think Griese was bad, you better not watch the games if one of our UDFAs has to take the field this year! .
  21. This is disturbing news. I had hoped Beekman would emerge as a decent LG, since Metcalf was a total bum last year. Angelo is going to get a QB or two or three killed this year if he doesn't bring in a Vet at that position. Oh wait..... They don't have a third QB who will be game ready in '08! .
  22. That's what fans of 31 other teams say about Grossman. I'm not promoting Jackson, and I love that he's been a disappointment for the queens. Having moved up to the 2nd round to get him, and since he played better the 2nd half of last season, I think they will name him starter without competition. Rex would have been SOL, unless TJ got benched again or injured. I'm just trying to view Grossman's situation realistically, and it's not a bright looking future at this point. He knows he has to play if he's going to turn his career around, and the Bears are his best opportunity. That's the only reason he signed the one-year deal. JMO .
  23. Grossman's career is about half over already, and he's still playing for bottom dollar on a one-year deal. He didn't stay in Chicago because he feels any loyalty; he's doing it because he and his agent (who no doubt put "feelers" out) didn't believe he'd find a better opportunity anywhere else. The Vikes spent two 3rd round picks to move up and take Jackson. They aren't going to give up on the kid this soon, especially not when he showed good progress the 2nd half of the season. I seriously doubt they had any interest in bringing in Grossman, except maybe as a backup. .
  24. Where else would Grossman have gone to have a genuine chance to be the starter? I don't think he's worried about Orton, he knows the system, and he knows Lovie and Turner won't get in his face and yell at him no matter how bad he screws up. .
  25. Teams can sign rookies selected in the first half of the 1st round to a contract up to 6 years. Players selected in the second half of the 1st round can be signed up to 5 years. After the 1st round, they can be signed up to 4 years. .
